Dusty’s Collision

When I got in a recent car accident, my car was towed to the local/​nearby auto shop, which happened to be Dustys. We are new to the area and didn’t have a «go-​to» repair shop. We had a great experience with Dustys and highly recommend. They worked with our insurance and accessor to take care of the claims and payment. The car was ready exactly when they estimated it would be and they even provided a loaner, free of charge, while car was in the shop. The car looks great and runs like new. Thank you!

Had my pickup repaired by Dusty’s this past week. Fairly substantial damage to the vehicle. They finished it faster than expected. It looked like new. They cleaned it inside and out. When I picked it up it looked fantastic!
The day after I picked it up, I got a call from Austin, the rep who handled my case. He had a little emergency piggy bank I kept in the truck. I forgot about it when I dropped the truck off. They removed it when they initially got the vehicle from me, to prevent possible theft. I probably would have realized it wasn’t in there eventually. Regardless, it was a pleasant surprise to find the honesty and quality they provided.

This place is wonderful! I recently had some body work done by Dusty’s, after my car was hit. Not a fun time, but my service rep, Alan (I hope I spelled your name right!) was so helpful and friendly. He went above and beyond. I got my car back in perfect condition and spotlessly clean on the inside and out. Nice. Their new facility is clean, inviting and conveniently located to downtown Ann Arbor. I hope never to have to go back, but I certainly would! Thanks Dusty’s!

Dusty’s repaired our car expertly and showed initiative in getting things right. Allen was our main contact and he took time to listen and thought out good solutions. We always got the impression that he cared about fixing our car like he would want his own fixed. We would recommend Dusty’s without reservation!

Had a vehicle repaired here June, 2015. Estimator did a nice job explaining the process. It was an insurance repair. They took the vehicle in and pulled it apart, found a few items that needed repairs beyond the original estimate, handled it no problem. Communication was primarily by email and was good. I had a special request for a part on my vehicle that was non-​stock and wanted that maintained on my vehicle, which did not happen. I also asked for return of parts. Also did not happen. I placed a call and they rectified immediately. The quality of the repair is very good. Finish is good, body fitment and panel gaps are good, color match is good. Repair was completed in a reasonable time. If you’re repairing your grocery getter, probably a good place to go. If you are repairing your vintage whatever, and you want very specific things done, you should expect a lot of communication and hand holding. Overall a solid B+. You can definitely do worse.

They were so nice and helpful when I came in and they set up an appointment for me to bring in my car almost immediately. My car was pretty banged up and they had it back to me within three days. Not only did they fix the large scrape and dent on my car but they also touched up some small scratches and dents it had with paint. It doesn’t end there, when I got my car back it was spotless. It looked like it had been freshly detailed. Before I took it in the floors were a mess on the inside after lots of snow and mud and I got my car back looking brand new.
Dusty’s is one of those places that goes the extra mile (and a half). I will recommend them to everyone I know.

Dusty’s is absolutely flawless in their work and customer service. They fixed small dents and scratches on our 2003 Jaguar XJ-​8 amazingly. Car looks like new. They were done day early and at much lower cost than any other shop quoted us.
I would never have expected to write good review on a collison shop. Dustys simply is the only collision shop around worth writing review.
They are a great shop to work with.

I’ve needed some body work done a few times in the past couple of years, and after I found Dusty’s, they became my first choice.
1. My SO backed into a car in a parking lot and damaged the trunk. Dusty’s suggested the cheaper alternative of a new trunk without a spoiler. Saved me some $$.
2. Someone hit my 2 year old car in a parking lot while I was parked (and didn’t leave a note, the inconsiderate SOB), leaving me with major side damage. Dusty’s did a very good job (not great, some residue from the tape) in a reasonable amount of time.
3. Someone else hit my SO in a parking lot, t-​boned the car as we drove by. We apparently don’t have good luck in parking lots. It was completely the other driver’s fault and he and Dusty’s worked out the financial details that evening. I arranged to drop off the car in a couple of days, during which time someone knocked off the side mirror on the other side of the car. Dusty’s found a third party after-​market mirror and installed it for less than half of what the dealer wanted.
Dusty himself has done pretty well for himself and has donated back to the community. Seems like he’s both business-​smart and knows how to invest in the community for the future. See this article, for example:

I have had the unfortunate experience of needing body work done on my BMW 330xi twice in the last 6 months and Dusty’s came to the rescue both times. The first incident involved parking lot damage (multiple panel repair) and the second was repairing the damage from an incident with a rather large deer.
In both cases Body Shop Dave delivered accurate quotes as well as met the original estimated delivery times. The work was done incredibly well — including the matching of the deep gloss paint — and I really couldn’t be happier. In the case of the second repair a secondary leak appeared days after completion. They saw my car promptly, diagnosed the issue and repaired it on site.
I admittedly do not have a ton of expertise in the area of car repair but in my dealings with Dusty’s I have felt that they have had my best interests in mind and I could totally trust them with my car.

Black Audi that got backed into in a parking lot. There was damage all around left rear wheel well and panel, including scuffs and scrapes on the rim. Dusty’s handled all of the insurance and a week later the car was ready… in perfect condition with a new rim. I’m highly satisfied with the outcome.

I cannot say enough great things about this place! Getting an estimate was simple and easy, and they were able to order the parts I needed that day. Just two days later I was able to take my car in, and one of the guys was even able to give me a ride to work after I dropped the car off. Everyone there was so helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Within 24 hours my car was ready to picked up. Not only did they make all of the repairs at a very reasonable price, they completely cleaned my headlights, interior, and exterior of the car! They really go above and beyond to give the best quality service.
My only complaint is that the GEICO representatives are only available on Wednesdays, so I had to wait over two weeks after submitting my claim before I could get an estimate. Once I got the estimate, though, everything moved really quickly.

I was incredibly impressed by Dusty’s, specifically Dave, who gave me an initial estimate and explained everything that was going to happen. My parked car was hit and it needed some back bumper repair, and Dusty’s fixed it in a couple days. They called me twice — once to explain that the parts were on order with an estimated ship date, and once to say they were finished. Great communication. What’s more, they vacuumed and wiped down the inside of my car! What a nice surprise, considering they didn’t complete any interior work. I’d go back to them in an instant, but hope I won’t need to!

I recently took my car to Dusty’s for hail damage repair and would not return. Although the repair work was excellent, their customer service is appalling. My car had several issues when I picked it up, and the repair work took twice as long (6 business days instead of 3) than I was quoted.
I took my car in for an estimate and was quoted $ 1200 and two to three business days for the repair. After dealing with my insurance company, I left the car on Sunday night before going on a business trip. On my return on Thursday, I called to verify I could pick the car up. Dusty’s informed me the car wouldn’t be done until Monday because they had requested a new estimate ($ 3000!) — but they hadn’t notified me of that.
When I picked the car up, it was not «done.» The A-​pillar interior room was loose and jammed the seatbelts so they couldn’t be used. The front fender liners were loose and rubbed noisily on the tires as I drove. The front lip of the car was loose on one corner, yet Dusty’s incorrectly claimed it was like that when I dropped the car off. Although Dusty’s fixed these issues for free, their only apology was, «We were really busy after the hail storm.»
As noted above, the actual metal repair work was outstanding and very impressive. The car looks great. However, I cannot recommend Dusty’s and would never return based on the disgusting customer service.

These guys rock — capable, trustworthy, and friendly. They fixed our car’s collision damage perfectly and had the car ready for me a day earlier than I expected! The customer service is really conscientious, I got a call mid-​way into the repairs just to let me know the progress of the repairs. It’s the first time I’ve been to Dusty’s — I took the suggestion of my insurance adjuster from Citizens. Glad I took the suggestion — very satisfied.

I have used Dusty a few times in my 30 years in Ann Arbor. I have never been disappointed. They are courteous and fast.
One time I rear ended someone and thought I needed a new hood. Turns out is just needed an adjustment and they fixed it for free!

The front right corner of my RX 330 was extensively damaged in a parking lot collision at Meijer’s during the Snowpocalypse last year. I selected Dusty’s over Zahn’s based on the recommendation of several people for this nearly $ 2,500 repair. Dusty’s was marginally more expensive than Zahn’s but nicer and closer to my downtown office in Ann Arbor. Interestingly, Dusty’s is a direct bill vendor for Citizen’s Insurance, my carrier, and Zahn’s is not.
In the end I found Dusty’s to be nice but comically incompetent. They were able to get the sheet metal right but Dusty’s installed the wrong fixed head light into my car. From a customer perspective, Dusty’s was like «me bang metal, real good — me not so smart with part book thing.»
It took 6 trips, 5 drop offs at 2 separate repair shops and a ton of time for them to identify the problem and install the correct, self-​leveling HID headlight which are installed on roughly 50% of the cars that Lexus sells.
Here are the details:

Date 4.15.11, Original Repair, 5 Days, Diagnostic light indicates headlight problem upon pickup.
Date 4.22.11, 2^nd Trip, 1 Day, Customer drop off; repair attempted; need headlight calibration using tool at Arbor Motion.
Date 5.9.11, 3^rd Trip, 1 Day, Customer drop off; referred to Arbor Motion for calibration; wrong headlight installed.
Date 5.20.11, 4^th Trip, Customer wait, Wrong headlight ordered by Dusty’s; unable to install.
Date 6.15.11, 5^th Trip, 1 Day, Broken/​defective headlight received by Dusty’s; unable to install.

They were always nice and generous with a loaner car twice but I value competence. The problem at Dusty’s is that no one seems to be in charge. It was interesting that I asked them for an additional quote on what looked like a simple ding from a lacrosse ball Dusty’s gave me an informal $ 900 quote. I thought it was a bit shocking after having put up with over two months of errors and run around.
I am sorry I selected them for my business.

I was highly recommended by 3 of my local friends to take my car to Dusty’s, as it was where they always took their car and was the only body ship they’re happy with. I saw a few negative reviews, but trusted my local friends.
Well, apparently I’m the one unlucky customer, because my experience was so bad it turned comical. By the end, all I could do was laugh. I took my newish MINI Countryman there after an unfortunate incident. Knowing it was a new body type, I expected some issues with the repair. I was quoted 5 days, which was more than they normally would need but took this into account. Cool. Insurance eventually approved the quote and I dropped it off on a Monday.
On Friday, I gave a call to see the status. I was told it would be ready to pick up around 4:45PM. Then, around 4:30, as I was about ready to leave I received another call. Turns out it was taking them longer than expected to put back together my car, and it wouldn’t be ready until Monday. No Big Deal, I understand.
I call on Monday. Turns out they had the wrong part for the plates under the doors and had to order the correct part, which they were expecting that afternoon. I finally picked it up right near close of business on Monday, Aug 1^st. On my drive home, I realize that my auto-​up function of the drivers side door doesn’t work. In addition, the only way I can adjust my mirrors is «down», since the mirror switch was re-​installed wrong. Great. Give them a call, drop my car off again, and wait for it to be repaired. They had to order a new mirror switch, so it was in there for a few days. I picked it up again on Aug 3^rd.
I get home and decide to actually go over my car to make sure nothing else is wrong. It is then that I discover that on the plastic rocker molding, they didn’t put a clip in so it’s loose. Inside the door, there are rubber grommets missing that should cover some holes. I also notice that the chrome piece below my window, it appears when they took it off they set it on something and let it get scratched to hell and back. Additionally, the paint on the passenger door was put on too thick, so it was rubbing against the driver door and causing scratches on both doors. Below the drivers door, there was still some accident damage which should have been repaired. Honestly, at this point I was fuming. I waited until the 5^th to call, since I was still really upset at the workmanship. I left a message for the person I had been working with, since he was out of town. He gets back with me on August 8^th and I explain to him my frustrations with the quality of work, the problems I’ve had, and how I expected better from Dusty’s. I drive my car over to show him and either another manager or one of the owners my concerns.
After looking over the car, he agrees with everything I’ve pointed out and even points out a few other issues with the paint. I agree to drop it off the next day, Aug 9^th, so they can take care of all these issues. I receive a call on the 18^th saying it’s ready, so I go to pick it up. When I pick it up, they tell me they were not able to fix the chrome piece below the door because MINI has it on backorder, suggesting that it’s due to a quality issue (which is true) and that MINI will end up replacing all the pieces anyway. This slightly annoys me, since they should have told this to me over the phone, not telling me everything is fixed and it’s ready to pick up.
The saga continues. I noticed that the door was slightly hard to close when I got back to work and discover that the door is mounted slightly off and hitting the weather stripping — already causing it to tear. I call, again, and speak with a manager, and immediately bring the car back over. They fix that issue and order a replacement weather strip.
A week or so later, I receive a call saying the weather strip replacement is in and to schedule a time to get it replaced. We agree on the morning of August 31^st. I take it in, wait, and eventually I am told that they can not find the replacement weather strip. They say it was there last night, but now isn’t where it should be and they looked all over. Rather than wasting more of my day, they say they’ll order another one and/​or continue to look for the strip and give me a call.
On Friday, Sept 2^nd I receive a call stating they found it and to give them a ring next week to schedule a time. I call on the 7^th and am told the replacement chrome piece also arrived, so we agree on the morning of Sept 8^th. Finally, the issues are resolved.
While the issues were resolved, I am EXTREMELY unhappy with the quality of work at Dusty’s. There are still minor issues I have decided to live with at this point, but they all point to carelessness during work. I haven’t even mentioned that I had to spend 2−3+ hours cleaning every surface of the car due to a thin coating of red dust from them sanding the first paint attempt down.
The ONLY good thing is their front office is VERY friendly.

Dusty’s serviced my car quickly and the repair work looked great! The staff was friendly and helpful, and they even cleaned out the inside of my car. Wow, what service!

There is almost nothing that makes your heart sink to the pit of your stomach more quickly than the loud «crunch» of a headlamp and scraping of metal.

I am generally a pretty decent driver, and usually pretty aware of my boundaries, but unfortunately, while a bit frazzled, I scraped up against a yellow pole in a parking garage. The damage wasn’t huge, but it was a major bummer. It was the first time I had done anything like this in a long time. Argggh.
Now, I own my car outright, and though it’s reliable and I hope to drive it for a good long time, I don’t necessarily need or want it to look brand new. I really didn’t want to pay a $ 500 deductible or buy a whole new body panel. For the small amount of denting and scratching, it seemed a bit excessive.
When I explained this to the fellows at Dusty’s they were able to come up with an option to pop a turn-​signal light unit back in, touch up the paint, and bend the body back out to «good enough» and the light would look just fine.
Well, that’s exactly what they did, quite successfully, at exactly the price they quoted me. I appreciated that they didn’t try to push my into a more expensive repair.
They’ve also been very good at replacing my fella’s car windows and fixing some vandalism on his previous car several times (we live in an area where a few times a year a bunch of cars will just get smashed up on the street — probably drunk kids or something).
So, overall, I feel like Dusty’s has taken very good care of us.

After getting in to an accident and wanting to save a little money I chose to go to this place because they seemed like they could «work with me» to cut some of the costs of repair.
I guess the saying «you get what you pay for» is true. They did a horrible job, completely forgetting some parts (which I had to bring it back for and leave it with them for 2 weeks for), charging me way more than the estimate, taking much much longer to do the work than they promised, repeatedly giving me wrong completion dates, getting the inside of my car filthy with dust, and not completely fixing the job (my car still leaks a little bit, although they couldn’t find the leak).
This was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. In short, I’d never go here again, and warn everyone against it.
