History

Established in 1992.

I began as a one-​person shop so I could manage every aspect of the repairs I was performing. My small business gradually grew as my customers told their friends about my shop and I have slowly added team-​members who share my attitudes toward Auto Repair. A few years ago we realized we had reached the limit of our original building and our work-​load was still increasing (Thank-​you my LOYAL customers!) so we found a larger building nearby. We bought and renovated that building and moved in October 2012. Now we have more room to properly service YOUR vehicle and we have room for potential future expansion.

When I was growing up, my family owned the Dodge Dealership in Saline. I spent much of my youth hanging around the shop area; sweeping, cleaning parts, watching and annoying the mechanics with my questions. I couldn’t wait to get my Driver’s License so I could be a bigger part of it! I only took one year of Auto Shop in High School — I quickly found I had learned most of what I needed hanging around the shop and reading anything I could find that had to do with CARS. Life led me to quit my studies at the University of Michigan and take a full-​time job as a Mechanic at a Service Station in Ann Arbor. I really haven’t looked back since…

SEVERELY overpriced services! It’s no wonder they can afford to have the most inconvenient hours possible. It would have been cheaper to go to the dealership. They claimed to have given me «ultra premium» Napa brand parts… How ultra premium are store brand parts? This place is a joke. They more than likely bought their reviews. They claim to have «over the top» services. That’s great… They could have told me that they cost more than any dealership out there before I brought in my car. I don’t need an $ 85 oil change or a $ 600 brake job on my 8 year old RAV4… Maybe it’s worth it if you have a luxury car… Idk

I was charged nearly double what I last paid to have both of my headlight bulbs replaced (nearly $ 60) in my ’03 Toyota. I suspect the dealership may have been a cheaper option. But, everyone on Unilocal has given them 5 stars, so I thought I’d try them out. Nice enough folks, but be sure to get an estimate up front.

A great shop with a knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful staff. «Satisfied» doesn’t begin to describe my experience with Steeb’s (delighted? tickled? ecstatic?). I have a new-​ish minivan which I bring to Steeb’s for all of its (un)scheduled maintenance. I have been completely satisfied every time.
The first time I brought it in for an oil change, they recommended that I replace the rear brakes at the next service. I dutifully set up my next appointment to include the rear brake job. When I picked it up, however, they told me that it wouldn’t hurt to wait until next time so they hadn’t done the brakes.
Today, I called in because I was having a problem with my driver’s side power mirror and asked if there was any way they could take a look at it the same afternoon. John had me bring it in and they were able to fix it at no charge.
One final word about their location: there’s a bus stop on the #6 line literally 15 steps from the shop office. So, if you drop off your car for the day, you can ride the bus into work and then pick it up on your way home; or if you are a student, the #6 runs right down State Street and will drop you off on Central Campus.

My family takes all six of our cars here, not to mention all of our relatives and friends as well. Whenever anyone asks for a place to go I send them here. Always completely honest and up front. They won’t recommend anything you don’t need. Everyone that works there is lovely. We’ve been going to Steve’s for years and years and will continue to for as long as he’s open!

I went here off of a friend’s recommendation. Glad I did. Service was friendly, and straight forward. They were able to fix my car up within a day’s time with no surprises. Parking lot and building were clean and welcoming. Most likely will be my new go to auto shop.

i live in CA now but wish i could still take my car to steve. i have a dozen anecdotes that detail how great he is, but would rather keep the review short and sweet and send as much business as possible his way. steve is honest, does solid work, and is super nice. he never overcharged and never did unnecessary work. he never lied or misled me about what needed to be done to my car. he always explained everything he did and never acted like my request or level of knowledge was silly or unreasonable. A+++, would send broken car to again.

Steve and his staff are very honest and reasonable. He literally will not allow me to sell my 2006 Pacifica because «Hey, where are you going to get Mercedes parts without buying a Mercedes?» Meanwhile, despite my fears, the Pacifica runs great. He’s right. Why would I sell or trade it? He keeps it running great for a low cost of occasional repairs. An honest mechanic!

Steve Steeb’s is one of the most trustworthy auto repair shops I have ever worked with. It is easy to tell from how far out they are booked that this is an institution with a loyal following. When we brought in our rather neglected auxiliary car for a good going over, we expected to have to prioritize which repairs we were going to do. Instead, through some creative approaches to dealing with a few of the repairs that needed doing, we were able to get everything taken care of at once. They explain what needs doing in plain language, and the options they propose take cost to the customer in mind. A pleasure to work with.
