History

Established in 1991.

Clyde McLaughlin and Chris McConnell started Chesapeake Import Services with the goal of educating customers about the maintenance and repair needs of today’s modern vehicles. Both owners have been in the industry for many years and have extensive knowledge and experience in both import and domestic car repair. We offer competitive prices, state of the art equipment, and ASE certified Master Technicians. We carry an extensive inventory of original equipment parts and give you personal customer service. Maryland State Inspection Station and are Maryland State Emissions Certified.

Business Owner

Clyde McLaughlin and Chris McConnell, co-​owners of Chesapeake Import Services and formed the business in April of 1991 at a small location on Lee Street in Annapolis, Maryland.

In 1994 the business expanded and we moved to our current location on McGuckian Street also in Annapolis. We have gradually grown in the past 23 years, to our present size of 9 bays at this 9,000 square foot location on McGuckian Street.

Originally geared toward the care and maintenance of high-​end imports, the business expanded to include the care and maintenance of domestic and mid-​level automobiles as well.

Clyde and Chris credit their success and growth to the level of attention they provide each automobile that enters their shop, as well as the experience and extensive training of our technicians.

Clyde McLaughlin is a native of New Hampshire and moved to Maryland in 1984.

Chris McConnell was born in New Jersey and moved to Annapolis in 1969.

Ok, these people are not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and at this business you get MORE than you pay for! EVERYONE (including the office staff) knows about, and loves great cars (and oldies but goodies). Just ask my car. (2000 BMW 540i) This car has 214,000 miles on it and runs just fine thanks to the care I get here. BMW charges more and doesn’t know half as much. The car will outlive me. I would like to find a doctor that can give me such great service, lol!

Very thorough analysis and service but expect to pay dealer prices. BMW parts vs after market (with prices to match) and labor rates just about the same as the dealer. First thing you are told is it will be $ 200 for anlaysis with their super duper fault code reader — expected I would pay this if I did not have the work done, but these folks charge you for both the analysis and the repair. Bottom line was over $ 1300 for a fuel pump that my regular mechanic would have charged me about $ 900 for — albeit it with after market parts.

Not sure why Unilocal is asking me to review this business again. I stand by my previous review and you should steer clear of this business. They are unreliable, do shoddy work and are rude to their clients, particularly the owner, Chris, who has a terrible temper.

After an online search and some research, I made an appointment to bring my car to get an issue checked. The problem persisted and the car became, well, not safe to drive. They were able to get the car in and take a look at it when they had a free moment. Luckily I could leave it, seeing as I couldn’t really drive it anyway.
They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They went through my extended warranty, were familiar with what was covered, and placed my mind at ease. When I got the call that they diagnosed the problem, my stomach dropped — cars have never been so fair to my psyche.
I cannot believe that they found the fix and didn’t go forward with a runaround on some over-​priced problem. It was a straight fix and I couldn’t have been happier.
Once I picked it up and drove out on the highway, it for the first time in the year that I owned it, really drove like a BMW.
When I picked it up, she went over my warrantee, we discussed what was covered, what wasn’t, etc. I’ve never been to a shop that was so forthcoming and offered great advice. Further, no one has ever taken the time to go over an extended warranty.
As far as I’m concerned, I would not think about going anywhere else to service a European car.
Oh and the New Customer Info Packet — they hooked up a koozie — enough said.

It seems like I’m always looking for a good mechanic. You know the one that will tell you what the real problem is, and how to most cost-​effectively fix it.
I think I’ve found my new go to! After a recommendation at work, I decided to give them a try. We had just been told that we needed a new transmission from another shop and in the same breath the other shop said to just sell them the car and get a new one. Red flag. So we took it to Chesapeake.
Jessica was very friendly and seemed to be really knowledgeable. They were able to diagnose the problem (not a new transmission) and fixed it reasonably and I trust that the problem is what they said it was, they road tested it 3 times to make sure!
My only complaint: I had to call several times to get an update, it seemed like they were a bit busy and didn’t really have a handle on the «keeping the client informed» aspect. But they didn’t make me feel like i was annoying when I called and they delivered as promised.
