Highway 4

It’s unbelievable to me how much traffic there is going to antioch coming from brentwood. It’s such a terrible jam due to all the road constructions. It’s been years since they’ve started this construction & they haven’t progressed much. IT PISSES ME OFF!

3 stars for now. Maybe it’s been too long to notice charges good or bad to the highway. I used to travel this «highway» as an alternative coming back to Stockton returning back from partying in the Bay Area. It was mostly empty after Antioch but was nasty to cut through the Delta.
My question is: why hasn’t it been widened all the way to Stockton? Would be nice to have another (safer) gateway to the Bay. I can easily see this happening if this ‘expressway’ was also a toll road. Money could be proportionally split to pay for construction and also for improving natural habitats in the wonderful Delta region. Hopefully soon.

Worst freeway ever. If you’re considering moving into this area THINK AGAIN, there are many places that are nicer and easier to get in & out of. You will find traffic on hwy 4 at any time of the day, any day of the week.

Hwy 4 going to Brentwood is how Charles Barkley would say «Turrible! Just Turrible!» I would give this 1 star but not all of hwy 4 is like this. From Hercules to concord it’s a pleasant ride but once you pass bay point and you’re by the automall game over buddy
I used to drive here often when I was going out with a girl in the Pittsburg/​Antioch area and this place blows!!!
Always catch traffic around the railroad exit or around the auto plaza. I don’t like
This area and it’s whack like crack!
You’re sitting in traffic in the heat and it just sucks! It made me a little late for a wedding rehearsal during a Thursday afternoon. Just Turrible!

3 out of 5 stars is my rating for this highway.
PROS:
— never any traffic, unless they are doing some random roadwork, or some stuff left in the middle of the road.
— if and when there is a car accident, traffic hardly every stops, unlike other freeways where it gets jammed back to stop and stare
— nice hill side views of nature during the spring and late summer
CONS:
— unsafe highway. unsafe for the fact that people will go 90MPR if not faster, which is crazy and yes very unsafe
— only two lanes on each side of the freeway, which isnt a big deal but when there is something going on one lane will be open and cause a huge back up
— both right lane and left lane are apparently the FAST lines, there is no such thing as a SLOW lane on this free way so be careful

As most know they’ve been setting up the highway for the past couple of years for the new BART station that’s going to be set up in Brentwood. Not to mention they’re also widening the road which as we all know means: traffic.
I’ve lived in Brentwood for 18 years and have experienced all the award-​winning, kill me now, how long is this going to take, move!!!, moments that sitting in traffic has to offer you.
The really peculiar thing about Highway 4 is that it legitimately does not matter what time you get on the highway there will always be traffic. Maybe at 3am you won’t hit anything, but who is up at 3am?
Traffic can be incredibly heinous. From anywhere between 1 hour of sitting around and waiting to 3 ½+ hours. You really don’t know for certain, but you will hit traffic that makes you feel like clawing your eyes out, going hulk, and clawing everyone else’s eyes out.
I’m willing to bet you $ 20 if you ditched your car in traffic and ran to work, you’d get there much quicker instead of waiting it out for the traffic to clear.

A DEL TACO AWAITS YOU
If you have spent any amount of time in Southern CA, perhaps you’ve had the opportunity to visit and fall in love with Del Taco. If you didn’t fall in love, perhaps you didn’t get the crunchy taco. If you didn’t order the crunchy taco, perhaps you don’t like crunchy tacos. If you don’t like crunchy tacos, perhaps you’re incapable of love since there is a void where your heart should be.
My favorite thing about Highway 4 is it will lead you to Antioch. This is where Del Taco lives. The next nearest one (I think) is Cordelia. There’s also one in Santa Nella that I like a lot.
Antioch has lots of good fast food — including an In N Out and the areas only Olive Garden. Red Lobster might also be unique to this area. Highway 4 will get you to all of these places, but make sure to stay off your phone while driving because you really need to pay attention to this stop-​and-​go nightmare. There is a notorious stretch of never-​ending construction. I believe it is a road-​widening project, since the two lanes are currently overwhelmed by traffic. It may also be some kind of sick joke by Cal Trans to see how long they can create angry drivers. All hours of the day can be affected. Plan ahead if you are a timely person.
I have seen three different vanity plates with variations of «H8NHWY4» or similar messages. Perhaps these people don’t realize Del Taco is on Highway 4. Or perhaps they hate crunchy tacos, and then I wouldn’t be able to take their opinions seriously anyhow :)

before the upgrade to highway 4 (2 lanes to 4), the stretch from bay point to hillcrest was a snail’s crawl at peak hours.
the returning lanes haven’t been totally renovated yet so there is still some backup in the antioch area. no biggie though.
the biggest hassle now is the overhead sun shining in ur eyes, making visibility a painstalking chore.
the extension fo brentwood is completed making trips there very quick is easy.

Whoever designed the roads for Antioch had no sense of any forethought and is/​are complete idiots. Seriously, two lanes in both directions? How stupid is that? The city planners which I imagine are the brains behind that kind of thinking were completely brain dead. I guess they didn’t think about the future expansion of Antioch, Oakley or Brentwood. Stay away from this highway at basically all times until the city stooges fix this problem and finish off the expansion which is already taking forever. Also, whoever is reading this and building the freaking roads, ie. the engineers, hurry the hell up please. I ain’t getting any younger.

ARRRRRRGGGGGG! By the time they finish widening the Pittsburg-​Antioch stretch of Hwy. 4, I’ll have died of old age.

The bane of my existence… how is there ALWAYS traffic on this stretch of freeway at nearly all hours of the day & night??? I just don’t get it… I avoid taking this freeway at all costs! Taking a longer route will still get you where you’re going, faster than if you took Hwy 4. Such a nightmare!

Stay away from this area in the morning from like 5:30am-8am. Too much traffic heading towards Vasco. And also stay away from it between the hours of 4pm-6:30pm. Traffic as well. I’ve almost gotten into many accidents on this road so drive carefully!

Literally a call of death during 6 am til 10 am and 4 pm til 6 pm!!!
Crazy traffic, since its a 2 lane setting.
There is construction work being done to expand lanes and hopefully add 2 lanes to each direction! Can not wait until that happens.

this high way sucks! no matter what time of day it is its always backed up. like on sunday at 3pm bumper to bumper traffic!!! its one of the main artiries in antioch and so i can understand with all the people moving there. it used to be kinda ok. now there is no way im going né where near it… it doesnt even matter what time of day. ive been there at all different times on all different days and i always seem to get slowed down in between railroad and summersville.
