I was surprised that this shop still open. The owner Dave took me for a good ride… Messed my car up a 67 Camaro which. He said he can do paint, turbo charged, suspension work and he’s full of BS and lots of it. he had my my car for almost a year.
A) paint job– my old paint is 200% better than what he calls his masterpiece. A masterpiece of shit alright
B) turbocharged? The plumbing, the kit from freakin eBay, the worst plumbing, even my 10 year old son can do better welding. The exhaust, manifold, fuel pump, I can go on and on and on, to be short my crate motor which has 1k miles blew head gasket while so called Dave got it covered.
C) he installed a so called four link suspension. Dumb ass butchered my car, he put holes on the floorboards while welding the bracket his backyard assembled four link and freakin use jb weld and silicone to patch ‘em holes.
The car was so messed up that I told him (not drivable, blown head gasket, suspension that only jb weld and silicone holding the entire rear suspension) to have the car towed to a shop.
All the people and even bar said sue him.
It’s just money, but it did put a big dent in my saving. Now my car is all fixed up and a lot of people what kind a person is Dave and he’s so called spectrum autoworx. A KARMA really a BAD one will get you Dave if you don’t change.
People before you go to this shop check Bureau of Automotive Repair in Contra, Costa county and you’ll find a gazillion of complain about Spectrum Autoworx «REALLY BAD» records. I’ve ask the rep of BAR why this guy is still operational? And even de frauding the insurance co. If I can make the owner of that BMW to what Dave did to his car for sure he’s going to ‘you know where, right Dave… We are preparing a criminal case against this shop. I do not recommend Spectrum for any type of work if you respect a professional’s word and integrity. Don’t trust someone who will tell you one thing, take your money and then tell you something else.
I am taking Dave of Spectrum to small claims court for misleading, misinforming and now refusing to admit what he told me when we agreed before and more importantly after he painted my plastic Buell gas tank.
Dave says that he did me a favor by giving me a cheap price in a small time frame. When what I now suspect is that he just wanted a quick dollar right before Memorial Day weekend. Why he refuses to refund such a small sum I don’t understand.
And please read his 1^st review on Unilocal to see I’m not the only one who thinks he does poor work.
On the phone we had agreed he would paint my tank for 75 $ since I bought the paint, primer and sanded it. On arrival he told me that I had sanded the tank incorrectly and told me it would cost 200 $ for the extra work. We agreed on 175 $ making sure to ask him if he knew what he was talking about, if he would make the paint bond to the plastic and if my time frame was possible. He assured me yes and I would be back the next day.
The moment I picked up my tank I knew something was wrong. The paint didn’t seem completely dry and there were chicken pox marks on the top of it. He then tells me that he has «no experience with plastic gas tanks» and that the paint job he did was the best he could do. With such a cheap price I didn’t make a big deal of it. I also have no experience with painting motorcycles. I then ask him if it’s ok for me to put it in the back seat of my brother’s car to take and he not only assures me that it’s fine as he rubbed his hand on top of it, he told me I could put the tank on my bike that minute. «Just make sure you don’t put gas on it» was his only warning. When I arrived home my neighbor who has experience painting cars asks to see it. Right off he points out what a horrible job Dave did. He points out the chicken pox which they call fish eyes and a bald spot of missing paint on the front right corner. The paint had rubbed off while sitting in the back seat when I drove it home. My neighbor told me that the fish eyes were from dirt and dust and that it takes more then 1 day for paint to dry so it can be touched. After telling him everything and seeing his work he concluded that Dave did a quick job just to take my money. I called Dave and asked for my money back. He said he would fix it but I told him how or why if he had no experience with painting plastic? He was closing for Memorial Day weekend and I had to wait until today Tues.
I later learned that painting plastic is a long process, showing me that Dave’s quick job after admitting he had no experience in plastics was bond to bubble. But that didn’t stop him from being dishonest and taking my money before hand when he told me he knew what to do.
I simply wanted my money back for misinforming me that he knew what he was doing and misleading me on how dry the paint was on my tank (I was willing to take the paint and primer $ 100 separately as a personal lose) But no.
1^st he doesn’t deny that he doesn’t know how to paint plastic now.
He just thinks since he did work on it, that that should be good enough (horrible customer service)
But he has nothing to say when I ask him why he told me he did have experience at first when he told me I sanded my tank incorrectly and charged me more money to fix it?
And now he completely denies telling me it was ok to put it in my brother’s back seat.
«I asked you if I could put it in his back seat», I told him. «I don’t know what to tell you. But you’re not getting your money back» he said «it takes 4 – 5 days for paint to dry».
He goes on to tell me how he paints 100,000 dollar cars but when I ask him about plastic parts he had nothing to say and just said «no». And when I repeated all this to him again he simply said «I don’t know what to tell you, paint takes days to dry, you should have made sure it touched nothing. I’m not giving you a refund, sue me».
«But you yourself touched it and told me it was ok»… Then realizing the type of person I was dealing with and told him I would see him in small claims court.
This is the type of professional Dave from Spectrum is. He’ll fidget and not look you in the eye when you catch him in a lie but he won’t give you your money back.
Don’t give Dave your money.
Why would you trust a so called professional who tells you «I don’t know what to tell you, sue me».

Excellent work, my car looks awesome thanks Dave and crew. Everywhere I go now people ask who did the paint. I will recommend this place to anyone with a classic car etc.

Located nearby Arrowhead towing company. Excellent, friendly, and courteous customer service. Owner, Dave, helped a lady in the community who had some major damages to her car. He provided straight forward info, offered options, brainstormed ideas, and had very reasonable pricing for someone in need. Pleasantly surprised! Dave went above and beyond with his services!
