When our friends told us this was the best Chinese in town, we were really surprised by the experience afterwards. We had a large group of folks, 9 in total, so there was an opportunity to sample many different dishes. Half of them were solidly good, and the other half were just mediocre. What was most troubling was the service. We came in on a Thursday evening, so the Restaurant seemed about half full. The staff struggled to get our food to us in a timely manner, and everything came out at different times. One dish literally came to the table as we were almost finished eating.

I really loved the food here. Makes me sad to hear this place closed. I know they have another restaurant in Brentwood but I just really loved this one best. This was sudden and unexpected. The food was delicious.

The best Chinese food in town! The place is so good, and a good place for date night, really classy inside. Prices are a little on the expensive side, unless you do their very reasonably priced lunch specials, but the prices are worth it for their quality food. I’ve never had a complaint about about the food in all the years I’ve been eating there. They have been around for 20+ years give or take.

My friend recommended this place. Best Chinese we have found so far. Good prices, large portions. –1 star for the dirty blinds and curtains they always sit us by and the sometimes inattentive staff. Dinner comes with dessert and there are the awesome little animal decorations in your drinks. :)

My husband and I have been coming to this place for 6 years. Never a bad night. The food is always very well seasoned and hot. We usually call in our order and pick it up. My husband loves the Strawberry Smoothie and they will make it to go. My recommendation is the Salt and Pepper Pork chop!

I’ve been going to Tao San Jin for almost 10 years and it’s still the best in the east bay. My husband and I travel 30 minutes to eat here because Chinese restaurants close to home always disappoint. We always start with the hot and sour soup and pot stickers(extra crispy.) Stir-fried spicy prawns, crispy chicken with lemon or sweet & sour sauces on the side and sizzling pork loin are great dishes to try.

The food is really good, so I had to give them another star, and the ambiance is nice for an intimate talk, or family gathering. I went there on a Saturday and the place was packed!!! I have never seen them so packed. They are usually quite empty, especially on weekdays and so I thought this place was a secret gem.

Been coming here for a few years now… best Chinese place around here… there’s also one in Brentwood but I prefer this one… I always like to order the crunchy chicken with spicy garlic sauce(basically a chicken breast that they fried and cut into strips and put the sweet garlic sauce on top it kind of has a sort of vinegar zing to it)…sweet and sour prawns(big prawns deep fried in like a tempura batter with pinapple and and veggies)…black bean sauce string beans with prawns(or pork depending on mood) and soft tofu… whenever I order that tofu dish I always ask for«$ 1 more soft tofu» because the one serving they put isn’t enough… those three dishes plus fried rice end up being $ 33…but portions are pretty generous and its good food so worth it to me They have really good lunch specials too… for $ 8-$ 10 you get the *Soup of the day(hot and sour is the best soup there to me) *An appetizer(favorite is the fried pork wonton with sweet & sour dipping sauce) *Steamed or fried rice *Main dish choice If I order for pick up it’s always done within 15 minutes… dining in service is pretty fast too… also a plus if dining in you get free strawberry ice cream at the end a nice little treat… never had anything I didn’t like from here… it’s my go to Chinese place

Is there ANOTHER Tao San Jin that everyone else went to? Because frankly, I found it to be way below par . My Mom and I came in at about 12:30 on a Tuesday and after being seated we were handed a lunch menu. It had lots of choices of entrees but no descriptions of the dishes and no options for anything other than the set lunch specials. The lunch included a bowl of hot and sour soup(generic but salty), followed by a plate containing 2 fried wontons with a sweet red sauce drizzled over them, and a small amount of plain iceberg salad with an unremarkable dressing. We had a choice of steamed or fried rice and we both chose fried. When my plate came it didn’t look appetizing, and unfortunately, my visual assessment was correct. Salty, thickened gluey sauce on my Kung Pao chicken completely overpowered the dish(which was mainly zucchini and a few other veggies). It had a good amount of chicken but just a few peanuts. The chicken was tender, but again, the glue-like salty sauce really spoiled it. My Mom’s cashew prawn dish was boring and again, horribly salty. My Mom LOVES salt– much more than I do. When she said *hers* was too salty after her first bite, I was surprised. The prawns and sauce had some plain cashews sprinkled on top of her plated dish. I guess that somehow makes it Cashew Prawns? Strange. The fried rice was steamed rice with peas, chopped carrot pieces and ham tossed in. I asked the waitress why the fried rice wasn’t fried rice; her explanation was that the lunch fried rice was different, and that next time I came I should order fried rice from the regular menu and try that. Ummmm, okay? That explains nothing. She(our waitress) was very sweet and attentive, the teenaged assistant waiter/busboy was a doll, the restaurant was very clean, but the food? BORING and SALTY as all get out. I worried this meant swollen-fingers-and-puffy-eyes-in-the-morning(and that’s exactly what happened) even though I just ate a portion of my serving. We took out leftovers home, but we tossed them. In my house, leftovers are appreciated and coveted– we never throw them out. Especially prawns! So that tells you what we thought of both meals. We went here because my Mom had had a few nice meals here about a year ago and wanted me to try it. She was surprised to find it had changed so much and sorry that she had suggested it. What happened? New owner or new chefs/recipes? Let’s be real here– screwing up Kung Pao Chicken is hard to do but they pulled it off! I won’t eat here again, and am really puzzled by the positive reviews.

I am suspicious. Neighborhood Chinese restaurants are usually not spic-and-span; waiters are usually peremptory; but food is usually greasy, salty goodness. Tao San Jin has a clean, classy vibe; waiters are very attentive(almost to the point of intrusiveness — then again, maybe they just caught me by surprise); and the food is good(although probably less than authentic). What gives? *eyeing Tao San Jin with suspicion* Although I find the food here to be less than authentic, I think they are the best Chinese restaurant in my neighborhood. I particularly like that the vegetables are always perfectly cooked and the food does not seem to be too salty. The waiters, as mentioned, are quite friendly and check on you often. It was disarming to get that level of attention from a Chinese place that we found the repeated interruption to our conversation slightly annoying. Then again, I am willing to say that it was just really unexpected, and I would be better prepared next time I dine in(I mean, really, who am I to complain about getting good waiter service?). But I am happy to get my glass of water refilled without even trying to get their attention. Once I get over my suspicions, this will be our go-to Chinese restaurant in Pittsburg/Antioch from here on out.

The amount of years I have been coming to this restaurant can not be counted. Year after year my family constantly keeps coming back and we constantly get great food and service. This is my favorite Chinese food place around. Its not the most«Authentic» of Chinese food but it works for my super whiteness. I had to leave on a business trip and wanted to spend as much time with my husband as I could before I left. So we hopped in my car and I surprised him by taking him here for lunch. We had the Hot & Sour Soup to start. I don’t like this kind of soup but I kind of liked how they turned spaghetti thin strings of Zucchini in to almost a noodle. It really made the soup. I got the Sesame Chicken and my husband got the Sweet & Sour Pork. Along with fried rice and an order of Egg Rolls. Egg Rolls were very large and really crispy. We could only eat half of them. The Sesame Chicken was crispy and the sauce was really, really good. I wish there was more to drizzle all over my rice. The Sweet & Sour Pork was kind of dry but they put nice big chunks of Pineapple on it so it made it yummy and fresher than normal. We had a mountain of leftovers which is exciting because I love good Chinese food left overs. This restaurant will be in our family for many more years to come.
