History
Established in 1979.
Larry first opened Computer World in 1979 in Appleton, Wisconsin and has been in the same building ever since. Computer World’s first Apple computer that they sold was the Apple II and the first four that they received did not have floppy disks. At the time, the storage was done on cassette tapes. In the early 2000’s, our Appleton store was remodeled to what it is today. The remodel took two separate stores, Sound World and Computer World, and joined them to be open for customers to browse both store with out having to go through doors. In 1998, Computer World became an Apple Specialist and in 2005, they joined the newly created ASMC (Apple Specialist Marketing Corporation) group. Since we have opened, we have always been authorized for sales and service on all Apple products except the iPhones. Computer World has served the Fox Cities area for many years with Apple and we have enjoyed the everyday challenges and love working with our customers and being their local Apple dealer!
Meet the Business Owner
Larry V.
Business Owner
Larry graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1978 with a Bachelors of Electrical Engineering degree. His initial interest was in software design and using computers to help simplify simple tasks. At the time, he could see the huge potential with the computer and the vast array of uses. He first started with a computer company called Cromemco, a multiuser unix-like operating system used mainly for business applications. It came with a structured basic language that was very powerful for its time. After working with a real computer for the first time, he thought it would be great if this tool could be used by individuals. He started to notice in his computer magazines a computer that had a very user friendly name, its name was Apple. Even in it’s early years, Apple was taking high technology and wrapping it in a box that didn’t scare away the «normal non-technical person». With that knowledge he had gained in 1979, he started Computer World in Appleton, Wisconsin.
