I have been attending this Kung Fu school since November of 2010. Prior to that I studied another very traditional system of Northern Shaolin for 6 years. What the laymen often needs to understand with respect to Traditional Chinese teaching methods, is that the instructor gives the student the tools and skills in steady but small measured amounts, much like one would nurture a plant. Because of this, the teacher may appear to be dis-​interested or un-​involved with his students, when he is in fact very much involved, and eager to see the flower blossom and show it’s potential. It is a common error made by prospective students, especially those unfamiliar with traditional Kung Fu, that the teacher is not involved with his students. What happens with a new student is that he or she is (often silently) expected to show their spirit and put forth his or her best effort. Once this is established, the instructor, if he or she is an authentic Kung Fu teacher (which is very rare in itself) will reward the student with wisdom and knowledge. The requirement for earning such knowledge (and this extends to our daily life) is and always has been: patience, diligence, unyielding hard work, focus, kindness, integrity, humility. all of which are cultivated further as you progress with a system like Choi Lee Fut… which by the way is being taught by the most profoundly humble and skilled of teachers. having been passed the Choi Lee Fut legacy directly from his grandfather and is one of only a few direct inheritors. All of this is as it should be, because no one lacking the special qualities necessary to cultivate this art has any business pursuing it… and so naturally, the beginners come and go like yesterdays news, and a select few are enriched by the life changing and ultimately deeply spiritual transformation that can only occur after many long years of diligence and hard work. So, if you desire to explore the sublime mysteries of a mostly forgotten and legendary traditional fighting system, and possess the necessary motivation and patience, you are in luck, because you have stumbled on something very rare. Interested students should just walk in and talk with the Sifu (his English is OK but other students, if present, can give an introduction).

I rarely like to put bad reviews on a martial arts school. However, I can’t really help on this one. I went to this school and I could understand ! was a bit inpatient that time, but it is hard learning martial arts where the teacher is sitting there the whole time. The teacher here has good morale and character, but his old school way of teaching just isn’t my cup of tea. I respect the system they teach here, but not the way the teacher teaches. I personally think, if he wants his students to achieve more, he should be more involved.
