Chow Patrick, DDS

Dr. Chow has seen me at my best (now in my late twenties, flossing and brushing every day, no cavities ever) and my worst (when I was 7 years old, screaming for an hour refusing to let him stick the numbing needle in my gums to fill a cavity). He is very patient and detail-​oriented; you can just tell that he really cares about his patients through the treatment recommendations that he makes. The office staff also goes out of their way to try to find the most affordable options for payment when I no longer have dental insurance.
I’ve seen a couple other dentists in the 626 area and I always go back to Dr. Chow because I’m most comfortable with him and I trust that he actually cares about my teeth and is not just trying to make a quick buck by recommending unnecessary procedures. A few times I’ve wanted to whiten my teeth and he convinced me not to because he said my teeth were white enough already and the procedure would hurt my enamel.
The only potential downside is that sometimes I might have to wait a few minutes after my appointment time to go in and see him, but I don’t mind because I know that previous patients can cause delays and that really is not the fault of the doctor or his staff. I would rather wait a little bit and rest assured knowing that my dentist isn’t rushing through my teeth cleaning.

A cavity cowboy, Patrick Chow is overeager to drill and fill cavities, some of which may benefit from simple observation. Alas, his skill does not match up with his proclivity to drill. 2^nd and 3^rd opinion dentists have independently critiqued his dental work done in my mouth, calling it «overdone» and «that’s a huge filling, that tooth is at increased risk for fracturing due to size».

Had several fillings done here. Poor spacing after the fillings were set led to the filling catching and tearing dental floss when i floss each night. Needless to say this made flossing much more difficult. Ultimately 1 of the fillings caught and was tugged out while flossing.

I had been his patient for many years, I better give him a five star.

Who really wants to go to the dentist. Ever. I mean, really. Let’s all be honest. The dentist office is almost as appealing as a date gone wrong, a hug from your best friend’s boyfriend that you just hate, having to go to traffic school (for 12 straight hours).
it’s necessary, but you really, really, really don’t want to do it.
and for someone like me who apparently gets cavities by just starting at any food items, it’s a pain in the ass.
lucky for me. Dr. Chow makes it as pleasant, as one can be.
he completely put me at ease (which speaks volumes, due to my seemingly increasing neurosis), and he’s completely fluent in chinese and english. both, equally. i’m kinda jelly about that. my chinese is passable, but don’t expect me start busting out sonnets and shit.
the offices are located right next to some fantastic restaurants– and there’s plenty of parking behind.
the practice is quite intimate, so, no you won’t get your cucumber melon water, and once in a while, yes, god forbid, water may splash on your porcelain skin– but all in all, the people have great vibes, and the choice of art is fantastic. (who cares about art, YOU WILL, when you’re smelling the burning of your TEETH, while trying to convince yourself, don’t move, don’t move, when the piercing gets unbearable– you will enjoy looking at the prints of Van Gogh. trust me.).

I made an appointment and arrived 10 min. before that time, another patient came later than me got in first, then I waited for more than 30 min. to see the dentist. The teeth cleaning tube is so old that water splashed all over my face and clothes, bad experience.
