History

Established in 2011.

Dr. Richard Fox graduated Cleveland Chiropractic College Los Angeles in 1983. In 1987, he started his post-​doctoral work in athletic injuries receiving his degree as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician. In 1992, Dr. Fox was honored as the 16th person to receive Diplomate status as a Chiropractic Sports Physician, from the American Chiropractic Association. From 1990 to present day, he continues to work with elite, world-​class, USA Olympic medalists, and professional athletes. In 1990, he started working with the medical tent of the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP). Since 2004 to present, Dr. Fox has been serving as Founder of medical services for the Los Angeles Derby Dolls, an all women’s professional banked track roller derby team. As a result of is involvement with athletic injuries Dr. Fox designed and patented Second Knee, a protective, stabilizing and supportive knee brace for competitive athletes of all levels.

Since 2004 to present, Dr. Fox has been serving as Director of medical services for the Los Angeles Derby Dolls, an all women’s professional banked track roller derby team. In 2011, Dr. Fox served as the doctor for Team USA roller derby in the first World Cup of Roller Derby, held in Toronto, Canada. He is currently a featured sports injury columnist for Blood and Thunder magazine. He remains as Associate Faculty, offering Chiropractic interns a private practice rotation in sports injuries and acute trauma, with the Los Angeles Derby Dolls.

Dr. Fox is more than a chiropractor. He is a genuine, caring person that is not only willing to take the extra steps necessary to get his patients better, but also has the abilities to do it. Dr. Rick is amazing! I’ve always been a bit skeptical of chiropractors, but my sister had been raving about Dr. Rick for months and months. And this was before I even had an injury! She had mentioned that aside from being a great individual overall, he works with the philosophy that if he can get you fixed and out of there in one visit, he will. He’s not a chiropractor for the business of building repeat clients. He’s there to fix the problem so that you can move on and get back to doing your usual activities.
I had some bizarre ankle pain while training for the LA Marathon. After a 20 mile training run, I felt like I could no longer run on my ankle. I let it rest for a couple of weeks and it didn’t get any better. I was still determined to finish the marathon but wasn’t sure how I’d get through the pain. I was a little hesitant to get it checked out because of my financial situation and because I tend to avoid health professionals when possible. But with two weeks to go before marathon day, I finally gave in to my sister’s nagging and made an appointment with Dr. Rick. My only regret is not listening to her sooner! With the KT tape that Dr. Rick used on my ankle, I was able to get through the race. He patiently showed me how to tape myself up so that I could do it before my runs and after that one visit, I am a huge fan of Dr. Rick! I would highly recommend him to anyone.

In recent months I went to Dr. Fox for stabbing pain in my right leg that caused me to limp with pressure on my knee. Dr. Fox listened to my story, checked my body alignment, and started massaging my knee. He put pressure with his fingers into the knee, pushing into the painful spots. This went on for several minutes, then he asked me to get up and walk towards him. I could not believe it! I walked towards him with no grinding, nor stabbing in my knee at all! Before this, I had knee pain for months, with my internist at the hospital giving me endless pain medicines, with no real results. But now my knee feels as if it has been put back in place!!! I haven’t had to wear a knee brace, nor take any horse pills since. And he did it all with a smile!!! The Man knows his stuff!!!

Dr. Rick is one of our amazing league chiropractors with the Derby Dolls. He is excellent with sports injuries and other orthopedic issues. He is extremely knowledgable, expert at dealing with muscle trauma and use of kinetic tape and other taping skills to help with injury. Dr. Rick is also a blast to be around. :)

I’ve been seeing Dr Rick for a adjustments and he can do a mean tape up job too!
I’ve had him tape me up before a game and that little bit can go a long way. Especially if it’s done right like he does. I’ve had him look at my sprained thumb, a bum ankle, my knee problems, shoulder pain and the occasional muscle soreness.
And just last week, he did some awesome chiropractor work. I am so going to him again for that!
I trust him and feel very comfortable.

I had never been to a Chiro before… and then I joined Roller Derby. ;)
Needless to say, after getting knocked around and hit into the rail on a 3−4x a week basis for the last 6+ years has made me a huge fan of Chiropractors, especially Dr. Rick who has been working on me since I joined derby. Dr. Rick is an expert! He’s great at adjustments, massage, and sports specific taping. He helped me rehab my shoulder from an injury in 2007, he’s helped me with lots of whiplash to my neck and keeps me at the top of my game with neck and back adjustments on a regular basis. Big thanks Dr. Rick!

Now a lot of people out there pooh-​pooh chiropractic. Had I not been active in a sport that introduced me to it, I probably would not have sought it out on my own. I went a few times in college to a chiropractor and found it to be unremarkable.
However now that I’ve been under Dr. Rick’s care for more than two years I can say that I’m a very fortunate girl. To the outside observer, his quick «rack and crack,» process appears to be simple, but seriously, lemme tell you there is absolutely nothing in the world as priceless as the pure relief from pain, which is what his adjustment can bring. The amount of knowledge in the hands of Dr. Rick when he makes a diagnosis and checks alignment is something that can only be acquired from decades of experience.
Last week during a roller derby practice I was involved in a collision with a rookie skater who slid into me without me anticipating the fall because she was behind me. For a week I suffered whiplash, vertigo, and a sore «stuck» neck from inflamed muscles tightening down and crunching, preventing me from nodding my head forward. Fast-​forward to six days later to Dr. Rick’s table, he had me adjusted and fixed so quickly I wanted to cry from the immediate relief. It was precious bliss and instant gratification. Not a lot of that can be found in the world!
Also of note, Dr. Rick is always studying and improving and adding things to his arsenal– he is also a master of the art of KT taping, and I know he has some knowledge of herbs and tons of other tricks up his sleeve. and, he loves dogs so you know he is a good one. Thank you Dr. Rick!

I found Dr. Rick Fox to be one of the most knowledgable and compassionate doctors I have ever worked with. HIs understanding of anatomy and biomechanics, combined with his years of experience working with world class athletes and musicians, made him the perfect match for helping me heal my work related injuries. After taking an extensive medical history, he focused on deep tissue work followed by spinal adjustments. He also applied kinesiology tape for stability and support. Dr. Fox is one of those rare doctors that is equally comfortable working alongside traditional western doctors, surgeons, acupuncturists, and physical therapists. He sees the whole picture and treats accordingly. I highly recommend Dr. Fox.

Dr. Rick Fox has been treating me with patience and care this past year. He alleviated my years of chronic headaches at my first visit. He works diligently to obtain the correct diagnosis of my chronic pain syndrome. After careful studying of my medical history, he requested several blood tests to rule out other possible syndromes and tried different approaches to relieve my headache as well as my neck, shoulders, and back pain. He has used kinesiology tapes to provide support for my joints and reduce my shoulders pain. His professional and personable character makes me feel comfortable and trusted especially in the manipulation of the alignment and adjustment of my spine. His knowledge in the musculoskeletal structures and functions of the nervous system are valuable. He had shown me some physical and aquatic exercises so that I can perform stretching therapies on my own. I have referred friends to visit him and they have also experienced wonderful results. I saw Dr. Fox last year for severe upper back and lower neck pain, and limitation and pain when I tried to turn my neck. He quickly re-​assured me that he was not the type of physician who was only interested in how much money my case would generate. He simply mobilized my lower neck, upper back vertebrae, and my left shoulder. Now it’s more than 9 months and I still have the relief. I wish all medical providers could be as honest and as effective as Dr. Fox

I first met Dr. Rick in 2007 when I worked alongside him for the LA Derby Dolls. He did his chiro thing, and I stretched them out a la Thai Yoga Massage. Since then we’ve remained colleagues, and he is a wealth of information about health care, and a steadfast, awesome chiropractor. You will find he’s very easy-​going, personalble, and a super nice guy! Read bout his experience with Olympic medalists and professional athletes:
I finally needed to see Dr. Rick with the occupational hazard that massage therapist get: over-​worked thumbs. You don’t realize how much work your opposable thumbs do until the joints start hurting, and everything you use your hands for — gripping a mug, pressing a zip-​lock baggie, buttoning your clothes — hurts like a mofo! That’s on top of all the years of Thai Yoga Massage work, so my hands were severely abused.
Dr. Rick assessed the rotation and movement of my jacked-​up thumbs, and with some soft-​tissue work, released the sprain (yes, I’d sprain them!!). My thumb joints immediately went, «Ahhhhhhhhhhh!» and the achiing and throbbing stopped. He worked the joint with Chinese herbs to help the inflammation, and I got to dip my hands in paraffin (another «Ahhh» moment). Then he carefully taped them so the thumb joints
wouldn’t move in any compromised fashion.
I went back to work that afternoon, on two clients. The taping and treatment held up great. No pain, and now I have full mobility back!
Highly recommend Dr. Rick — he’s one of the very best!

Dr. Fox came recommended by an entire roller derby league, and those ladies get hardcore injured, so their seal of approval really means something.
For a school health center, the building is quite pleasant, new, and professional; you don’t have to be a student for their services, either. Seeing as it’s a school, Dr. Fox and I weren’t alone; four interns observed and asked questions. A little unnerving, but since my problem was with my lower back, I got to keep all my clothes on, so whatever.
I’d never seen a chiropractor, so I didn’t know what to expect, but Dr. Fox really put me at ease and assured me right away that he’s not the sort of doctor who has a client come in for months; he fixes his clients in as little time as possible and sends them on their way. He took a detailed account of my injury, asked about my past, and had me stand and stretch a bunch of different ways to help pinpoint where my problem was, then did some more tests while I laid down. Lots of testing after he crunched me up some to see where I still hurt and if the pain had moved. Sympathetic when I winced or Unilocaled.
And whaddya know, my back felt much better! It was pretty exciting. Dr. Fox told me to come back if I needed him again, and he’d see me at derby practices. No big deal, and I felt confident about his services.
