This is intended to be constructive criticism for the owner and staff, because I really like to see places like this succeed. If our server had ever asked how everything was I would have been happy to share there rather than on Unilocal,sorry it worked out this way. We ate brunch there yesterday and our food was bad. I’m not simply referring to the taste, but that it had actually gone bad. I ordered the smoked salmon benedict, which didn’t come with smoked salmon as advertised (!?) but leftover poached salmon… that tasted more than quite a few days old. Gross. Had to pick it off and eat the eggs, which were actually cooked very well. My husband ordered the classic benedict and found that the ham tasted mouldy… it also looked sort of greyish-​brown. This is pretty bad people, please get on top of your quality control before someone gets sick.

The atmosphere here is great. The art is so beautiful and fun. The food too is great. I’ve had the Plain Jane and the Dirty Bomb BBQ which were both good. I forget which local place (Beck’s?) they get their bread from, but it is really nice. They give you a nice thick cut of it. I’ve had the eggs benedict for breakfast too which was good as well. They have a good selection of natural and housemade drinks as well, including espresso drinks. There isn’t a lot of seating, but we’ve never had a problem getting a seat. The staff is great too. It’s located right on the plaza which is super convenient and great for a stroll or people watching. Check this place out as you get hungry from perusing the local shoppes around downtown.

I got the meatless wonder panini (chèvre instead of mozzarella, avocado, cucumber, greens, pesto etc.) and my friend got the chicken pesto! Both we delish and the service was good! Yummy iced tea too. Sandwich came with coleslaw– wasn’t bad but wasn’t the best I had. Nice and spicy but it needed more dynamic flavors (sweet, spicy).

Came here for lunch with my boyfriend, it was nice. I got the BLT and it comes with a side of spicy coleslaw, it was very good. My boyfriend got the pulled pork tacos (you get four), it also comes with a side of coleslaw, and the tacos have a bit of coleslaw in them so they have some spice. Very nice waitress, and they have interesting art on the walls. I’m interested in trying their other dishes in the future.

The Norweigian Smörgåsbord is pretty much my favorite meal ever. Add a glass of kombucha, and I’m the happiest girl in the world. Service is also good… On top of their game but never overbearing. 10⁄10 will return every time I’m in Arcata.

Horrible Experience. A family of 7 including grandchildren and grandparents entered this place at 5:30 p.m. on a Saturday night for dinner. They stay open until 8 p.m., but it became VERY apparent that the staff was NOT INTERESTED in working. 3 staff members spent 15 minutes attempting to put together tables for us. This was very frustrating for the children and elders, but the staff DID NOT seem to care. The staff was obviously waiting for us to leave. We left and you should SKIP this
place altogether. The good reviews must be written by friends of theirs. Horrible experience!

Delicious lunch in downtown Arcata. I had the Norwegian Smörgåsbord and my dad had the special — the Thanksgiving Sandwich. Both were yummy, with really fresh and flavorful greens and ingredients.

Delicious food and fast, friendly service!
I really liked the lumberjack wrap — a surprisingly delicious combination of smoked pork, Swiss cheese, cole slaw, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and jalapeño aioli on a garlic wrap, served with a little salad, all for less than $ 10! I eat wraps all he time, but this combination was exemplarily delicious.

Friendly staff but overpriced and underseasoned food. Quality was lacking on the huevos dish and quantity was seriously lacking on the tuna melt plate. Little salad with one slice of bread for the melt. Fun to try but probably would not go again.

Great place, good food. I normally don’t order tomato soup, glad however I tried it as I ended up getting a cup of it after trying it. The cup is the size of a bowl, the bowl is the size of two bowls. The cheesesteak panini was good overall. The sauce is what makes this sandwich so don’t forget to add it to it. The coleslaw was also very light, not overdone on mayo.

I had the most delicious Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict!!! I highly recommend this!!!
I followed it by the Pear Cheesecake, which I didn’t much care for.
This place is a cute small café. Prices were reasonable. Parking was easy. Service was friendly, the staff came by regularly to check up on us.

Luke’s Joint is my favorite eats in central Arcata, hands down. This is not only due to the unique offerings… But also because this establishment genuinely sums up the mash-​up of Humboldt life in form, service, and décor.
The prices are extremely fair, considering the quality and local origin of many of their ingredients.
One question I unfailingly ask, everywhere I eat, is ‘is this fish local?’. Luke’s menu clearly explains the sourcing of their meats. This normal question on my part magically summoned the proprietor … Who was not only informative but also humble and welcoming. Refreshing in a town that sometimes hangs its laurels on the pompous/​imperious nature of its business owners.
In closing… If you haven’t been: go! Fresh, local, and large portions await.

This is a Great place to grab a bite of awesome local food on the plaza in downtown Arcata — the food is always fresh, local, sustainable and delicious.
Been here numerous times and at different times of the day and it’s always great. Killer coffee and fresh squeezed oj in the mornings with some great breakfast choices — scrambles and waffles to his version of eggs Benedict.
Lunch for great sandwiches, wraps and tasty plates. The place is small and fills quickly but it’s worth the wait — it moves fairly quick as well. Service has been consistently good.
Luke takes his food seriously and puts community, local farmers and whole foods sourcing first. We eat here regularly and you will be glad you stopped by for a bite the next time you find yourself down on the plaza.
