Welcome to the largest Chinese buffet restaurant in Humboldt County! At Oriental Buffet, we offer a wide variety of options to choose from such as Chinese, Mongolian BBQ, Sushi, and even a few American dishes for those who might not want to have an all Asian meal. We’ve picked our ingredients carefully and use only the freshest and most nature ones to prepare each and every dish, and have been trying to cook them in a healthier way to provide the most nutritious food. Much attention has been attached to ensure you a cozy and inviting ambiance where you could enjoy not only a great meal but also the authentic atmosphere.

The owner and all the staffs at Oriental Buffet will greet you with the warmest welcome, whether you are a habitual patron or come for the first time. We have made painstaking efforts to create the tidiest and cleanest dining place, and guarantee you with friendly and timely service. Every one of your demands and feeling will be cared in our restaurant.

History

Established in 2004.

Oriental Buffet opened on March 27, 2005, in the city of Arcata. Since the grand opening, we’ve have been working to adapted around our costumers to their every suggestion to improve not only our food, but also our atmosphere and the way we approach our costumers. We’ve changed our menu and the ingredients we’ve used to the liking of our costumers and have made sure everything is above and beyond expectations. We’ve also recently added four new flat screen TVs with satellite so that you can feel at home and watch the news, sports, or your favorite TV show while you enjoy your meal. We’ve also recently added a selection of alcohol from beer to wine and sake. We will continue to improve and we are happy to hear suggestions about how we can increase your satisfaction whenever you dine with us!

I usually take full advantage of the buffet when we come here because we don’t come here often. I like to get their chow mein, crab and cheese puffs, the spring rolls, the peanut chicken, the donuts, and the pot stickers.etc. My parents always get the sushi and feed it eachother, it’s been their «thing» for years now every time we come here.

2 Stars for the price, the food is horrible and will have great shame in saying this place is my guilty pleasure. I can get take-​out for lunch for $ 7 and have it packed with food. However, I’ve been here enough to know which dishes are edible and which to leave alone. Also it must be noted that somedays are going to be better than other, the consistency of good food is never there. That being said, you can’t go wrong with the peanut chicken, hot pepper chicken, and steamed white rice. Stay away from the sushi.

Went here today for lunch, have to say the best Chinese food I’ve ate in awhile. Way better than the mall. Their chow mein and boneless «ribs» was my favorite

Mongolian bbq is not authentic. Regardless it’s still very good.
The food selection is fantastic, the tastes are awesome. My biggest complaint would be temperature of food. Needs to be hotter.
Egg drop soup was a bit of a let down.
The value is on point for a buffet. I’d recommend to anyone. I’d also go back. Service was pretty basic, nothing special, kind of cold vibe.
Overall the value, selection, and flavors far outweigh the cold vibe. Give it a shot, you’ll probably be thankful you did.
Oh yeah and they have ice cream.

Have eaten here 4 times, in the last 4 months. Food was fresh and hot. Price was very good. Lots of shrimp and that is good. Dim sum was good, salad bar had good selection, and all fresh. Did not have the chance to try dessert, as I was too full of shrimp.

The food was average and the place was very pack for just being average. The temp of the food seemed kind of cold, maybe it was due to it being outside for such a long period. The Mongolian food was great they make it right in front of you. Be careful with the rude lady who makes it she will give you dirty looks if you don’t tip her. Not sure why everyone now demands a tip. A tip is not mandatory.

AVOID EATING HERE.
This is the worst place to eat in all of Humboldt County. My friends would always want to come here to eat dinner because it was cheap and it was a buffet. THE FOOD IS LITERALLY REPULSIVE. First off the first time I ate there I found a huge long hair in my food and was disgusted but I said, «this could happen at any restaurant.» After I took my first bite I was disgusted. Oriental buffet is clearly not even real Chinese food. It literally taste like the fake Chinese food that you get in the frozen aisle at a supermarket. Last but not least, THEY DON’T PAY THEIR EMPLOYEES. They were audited by the IRS last year and they were fined 1 Million dollars for wage theft. Their employees were literally being payed 1.50 $ an hour. around 200 $ a month!!! BASICALLY SLAVE LABOR AND THEY ARE SOMEHOW STILL OPEN. I wasn’t surprised when I read this in the news paper. Their food is literally a reflection on how they treat their employees. TERRIBLE.

We’ve all had «typical» Chinese food, right? It’s usually pretty predictable, and once in a while, you actually get a «good» Chinese joint.
«Oriental Buffet» is NOT a good one. Oh good lord, is it not good at all.
While on a road trip, I stayed at the hotel across the street, and walked to the restaurant. Typical high-​quality, low-​quality buffet setup. It was filled with locals… which makes me question what they put in the water in Arcata, CA to make people RETURN to this place. The prices were VERY cheap ($ 5.00 for a combo: meat/​choice of rice, etc) so I ordered the General Tso’s Chicken/​white rice, and the Sweet & Sour Chicken/​fried rice, as well as a small order of chow mein.
The General Tso’s was brown, and shiny. It tasted like absolutely nothing. It had the general texture of chicken, without any specific flavor whatsoever. A generous dousing of soy sauce did nothing to «enhance the flavor».
The Sweet & Sour Chicken was truly impressive in it’s absence of flavor. As you can see in the photos I’ve posted, it was battered and fried, with absolutely no seasoning, and presented as such. Included with the dish is a single-​serving packet of «sweet & sour sauce» for you to basically finish the chefs job. It was inedible. I’m not a picky eater; I don’t mind bland food. But this chicken is simultaneously rubbery AND crumbly. Completely and totally disgusting. The color wasn’t even palatable.
If you enjoy buying what is being presented as edible food for about a dollar a pound, than this is the place for you!
Bonus: There are PLENTY of homeless people hovering in and around the restaurant. If you somehow haven’t heeded my warning, and decide to eat this «food», you can opt to give them your generous portions of leftovers, rather than throwing it in the trash. Even better, skip this disgusting «restaurant» entirely, and give the homeless people outside a few bucks instead. They can probably give you a better recommendation on where to eat.

This was a three and one half star experience. Food was very good lots of raw fish Sushi that was fresh. I too tried a little of everything. Coconut shrimp very good. Did not try the BBQ –crappy cook. But they did have shrimp as one of the ingredients. Had to wait for more oysters in the ½ shell in black bean sauce. They were busy, very clean with a good, attentive wait staff. The only negative was the panhandlers outside the entrance– not their fault. Just under thirty bucks for two with ice tea. Just across the street from Two motels so very convenient after driving for 6 hours.

Fresh veggies and well prepared.

Bad food and horrible service. I will not be going back. We had a large group but paid separate. The waiter let plates stack up and sodas were not refilled. After a short time, before we were even close to being done eating, the waiter brought us our checks and we felt pressured to rush our meal and leave. I did not feel his service was worth the $ 8.00 + tip that was included in my bill alone. Others in the group had similar amounts for tips added. This was a place we went every time we visited Arcata. We will never be going back and will be telling our friends also.

Good selections of food and desserts. Friendly service. Great décor. Relaxing atmosphere. ESPN on the flat screens! Reasonable prices, especially for the lunch buffet. One downfall, no free drink with lunch. Maybe dinner is different. Idk. The water and tea were free, which was better for me, but maybe not for you. I would definitely go back.

After reading all the good reviews, I expected to finally be able to eat a good meal after a long day on the road. There was good parking… and sadly that was the only thing good about this place.
The waiters/​waitresses and greeter were all very cold and gave off an unfriendly vibe. The buffet itself didn’t offer a huge selection of food either — and the dishes were cold, bland, and didn’t taste fresh. There were tip jars scattered throughout the buffet area, and the lady working the barbecue actually had the audacity to ask me for a tip after heating my food. The waiters and waitresses looked like they hated their job… none of them had so much as a smile on their face. When it came time to pay, I paid the tab and the waitresses just stood there waiting for me to pay a tip. When I left, I didn’t get any greeting, not even a good bye or acknowledgement.
I was staying in Eureka where there is a China Buffet but I drove the extra 10 miles just for this buffet due to the reviews. After eating here, I’m left wondering if I even ate at the same place the reviews talked about. Overall, this was a huge letdown and not worth the $ 11.99 I paid. I left just barely full because I just could not stomach any more of the lame excuse they call «buffet food». Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

Better than great food for the price! Service was great, too. Only concern is how crowded it gets, and with the quality of patrons. I totally understand it’s Humboldt, and I don’t judge, but I did lose my appetite at the smell of the guys at the table next to us.
Not sure if I’ll be back, but far above average for buffet.
I’ll travel to Fortuna for a cleaner experience next time I wanna treat my insides like a punching bag.
