I was visiting Arcata, Ca and went to the Co-​op for a chai while shopping. They offered 2 chai blends. I like spicy so they said I should try the local brew, Planet chai. Well, I was very impressed. Planet chai was not too sweet with wonderful cardamom and clove flavor and a nice pepper finish. Truely the best chai I have found. Too bad it’s not available in the SF bay area.

Simply the best chai ever :) I recommend drinking it with Vitasoy, it’s the best combination. I’ve known Jana, the owner, for almost 5 years and she is one of my best friends. She’s a classy, grounded professional that runs a truly honest business.

Wow! This chai comes from another planet: Planet Chai! On a recent visit to Humboldt, we went for breakfast at a local joint called Big Blue Caf. They claim to be known for their specialty coffees, so I hoped they would have equally special chai. The waitress described it as «local» and «lots of spice.» I took a fancy to both these descriptors and ordered a large cup. I could have savored that brew all day! When it comes to chai, I am offended by the brands that are sweet, but flavorless. Planet Chai was no such offender. The cup was spiked with notes of spice, particularly cardamom. Each sip knocked around in my mouth, leaving new sensations with every swirl across the tongue. Peppery, nutty, zesty, sassy!
The company delivers their chai to local establishments, like Big Blue Caf. They also make their product with organic and fair-​trade ingredients. I don’t believe you can find this delicious stuff outside the local area, which is too bad for those of us living further south. But it certainly gives me great reason to keep coming back to Humboldt for a visit!
