Active Care Chiropractic & Rehabilitation

I highly recommend this practice. Dr. Karm is intelligent, warm, and cares so much about her patients. Shannon and Stephanie, who are your «go to» people for scheduling and patient coordination, are also very helpful and kind. Every appointment I have had has been on time and I leave feeling rejuvenated! The space is clean, modernized, and relaxing. The chiropractic manipulations and acupuncture from Dr. Karm are top notch. Go see her!

Seriously… THE BEST. My neck, mid back, and lower back (especially) have been bothering me the past 2 years. I finally gave in and decided to go to a chiropractor after hearing amazing things from friends and family. I looked at who was covered under my insurance, and checked out the Unilocal reviews, and decided on Active Care. I am SO happy I did!
Where to start? Dr. Karm is so nice. Seriously. One of the most comforting, understanding, and open doctors I have ever been to. She really gets to know her clients. She will answer any of you questions (I have asked about nutrition, diets, supplements, what she is actually doing to my body… I’m annoying). She always gives me great recommendations. Her homework is reasonable, she values your input, and she is so understanding if you can’t do something or it is hard for you. I never feel judged or uncomfortable. I can’t say enough good about her.
Cheryl, the massage therapist, is wonderful as well. I can tell she really knows what she is doing and will work on the areas that are causing you pain/​discomfort. She uses deep massage techniques along with stretching. The room is comfortable, and she is super nice as well.
The ladies at the front desk are nice as well. They are always professional and are willing to work with you (I lost a print out of my benefits and they were happy to print it again for me) If you have some time to spare, you are welcome to use the roller bed (USE IT — it’s awesome). There is also water and tea to drink. The atmosphere is calming — from the lighting to the artwork. Perfection.
Legit, one of the best experiences I have had in a medical setting. After a month of going there, I feel SO much better. Everything from the nutrition advice, the massage therapy, the stretches, and the adjustments have helped so much. I highly recommend Dr. Karm and Active Care.

Dr. Karm and her staff at Active Care provide a welcoming, relaxed yet professional environment. She is always on time, I’ve never had to wait to see her. What I liked the most was her holistic approach to treatment. Other physicians suggested pain medication and muscle relaxers which only provided temporary relief and didn’t truly resolve my problem.
Dr. Karm suggested a combination of stretching and strengthening exercises which I can do anywhere without the need for a gym. It did take time (4 – 6 weeks) and some dedication to actually do the exercises, but the program she recommended for me has completely eliminated my pain, numbness and tingling.
I would recommend Active Care to anyone who is looking to truly put an end to back, shoulder or neck pain. Her recommendations will likely take some effort and dedication to incorporate into your routine, but life without pain and pills is a wonderful thing.

Dr. Karm really knows how to fix my problems. She is very caring, in tune with my concerns, and her adjustments are always spot on. I came to Active Care because I saw positive reviews in Unilocal.This was when there were only 5 reviews total. The reviews did not disappoint and neither did Dr. Karm.
The setting is very relaxing and yet casual. The office is professional, clean, and welcoming. Dr. Karm takes the time to listen to me and my concerns. Her «homework» is reasonable and she makes sure I completely understand the directions before I leave.
Cheryl and Cathy are wonderful massage therapists. They’re experts when it comes to therapeutic massages and identifying the specific knots & kinks in my muscles. They don’t rush their work and they really focus on the tightness and pain to ease it for me.
I cannot recommend them enough! Recently I was just in an accident where I was rear ended and came back to Dr. Karm to have my neck pain fixed. She worked with me to fix my pain and Shannon made sure the billing was done correctly. Cheryl and Cathy knew my areas of pain and worked to fix them.
I can’t say enough positive things about everyone at this practice! Dr. Karm and her team are really caring professionals!

I think this is about fit and finding a match. For me, she was not a match. My pain increased versus decreased after my visits. Although my case is unique, she didn’t seem willing to want to try another approach. The McKensie method was her mantra and either her technique or how I was trying it was not working.

Dr Karm is great. She is able to make just the right adjustments and provides easy directions for home stretches. The office is calming & comfortable. Cheryl does fantastic therapeutic massage. If you need chiropractic treatment, this it the place to get it!

I would like to give more stars! Dr. Karm is amazing! This was my first experience with lower back pain and I was a little freaked out. She immediately put me at ease and started me on a plan that eliminated the back pain quickly. She filled out all the necessary paperwork for my employer to obtain a more supportive chair quickly and was willing to do more if my employer required it. I would refer ANYONE experiencing pain to her for care. She told me today that I am able to manage my therapy on my own at home and I am sad I won’t be visiting her and Vanessa anymore! If you are looking for a doctor, I would HIGHLY recommend you make an appointment with Dr. Karm right away!

This place is great! I have been in for several massages with Cheryl which have been fantastic. Dr. Karm always is there to say hello after my appointments. Everyone is very friendly and I will continue to go back.

I recently became a patient of Dr. Karms’, and I have to say that she is the best chiropractor I have ever seen! I’ve seen many chiropractors over the years, and none compare to the amazing service and care that I received from Dr. Karm.
I was looking for a Dr. who specialized in prenatal chiropractic and was a bit worried about the kind of care I would receive, but Dr. Karm put my mind at rest immediately. She took an honest interest in me and my conditions and was very thorough in explaining everything.
I’ve only had one treatment and I already am feeling some relief. She even called today to make sure I am doing ok. I couldn’t ask for better service!

I found this center on Unilocal based on proximity and it had outstanding ratings/​reviews. I can understand why. Everyone in the office is friendly and helpful. I’ve been going to my doctor for over a year regarding my neck/​back issues and wa still dealing with the issues I was having.
After a few weeks of visits, Dr. Cress has diagnosed the real issues and immediately responds to any requests I have when needed. I will continue to go here on a regular basis to make sure I continue the improved state of my neck.
I would highly recommend to anyone in the area with any need for chiropractic care to consider reaching out to this place. Very willing to work around most schedules as well.

This place is outstanding. I have been to a few different chiropractors in the last 7 years and by far Dr. Karm is the best I’ve seen. Dr Karm, Dr Cress and the girl who works the desk (I want to say Ashley?) are always extremely friendly and personable. I started coming here in October for a reoccurring lower back and neck issue and even after the first visit I had rapid improvements.
Dr. Karm is easy going, passionate about what she does and easy to talk to which makes things even easier. I was constantly given stretches and exercises to work on in between visits in order to keep my back and neck in good condition and they definitely helped. After visiting 1 or 2 times a week for about 2.5 months, I have seen the pain all but disappear. Plus, now with all the different stretches that she showed me, I can continue to improve while no longer visiting. Even though I am finished with my treatment, Dr. Karm told me to call and set up an appointment at any time to come back if I was feeling the pain again.
I originally chose this place based on the other reviews (and the fact it’s a 2minute walk from my house) and I’m glad I did. This is the place to go. Hopefully I don’t need to go back but if I do, 10 000% it will be to this place because of Dr. Karm.

The I’s have it! The best! I was traveling during the holidays and had severe back pain after sleeping. It was Christmas day the pain got bad. I started calling around and was lucky enough to get Dr Cress on the phone the day after. He fit me in and I went over. After 5 min of stretching me I already felt 80% better but then I got a great adjustment. But not only did he help me, he showed me on a skeleton the problem and the cure. He showed me exercises to do at home and sent me on my way feeling 100%. I was so grateful since I had to fly home that night. I only wish I had care like that where I am from. I recommend highly!

Best chiropractor in town. I worked with Dr. Karm for a little under a year regarding stress and anxiety. You would never think to visit a chiro for stress, but Dr. Karm was extremely helpful implementing a plan of acupuncture, relaxing massages, and adjustments that relieved much of my anxiety and stress. She is very easy to talk to and a pleasure to be around. Activecare embodies what all medial offices should strive to be like when it comes to patient care. I even get birthday cards from the office! I definitely recommend this office!

Dr. Cress is awesome!!! I am a new patient and have only seen him twice, but feel so much relief in my neck and shoulders. Awesome massage work and I can tell that I am so much less tense. I am a «tough patient» as my father is a chiropractor out of state, but he definitely gets an A+! I met Dr. Karms as well, along with Ashley the office manager, and they were all very welcoming and friendly.

Thanks to Dr. Karm! I had some hip/​buttock pain for more then a year which I thought was overuse from running. My repeated attempts at stretching and rest did not help. As it turns out, it was more of a back thing. Dr. Karm had me do some simple back exercises multiple times a day and fix my seated posture and/​or avoid sitting when possible.
Now, literally a few months later I am just back from climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and training for the marathon this fall! Woo-​hoo!

Wonderful Office and staff!
I was looking to try acupuncture and typically rely on reviews/​recommendations. None of my friends or family had done acupuncture, so on to Unilocal I went in search of a highly recommended office. I’m so glad I came across Active Care Chiropractic! After seeing so many positive reviews, I knew this was where I needed to go. Dr. Karm was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this practice!

I’m 31, and pretty stinkin healthy, but sure felt like an old man when my back had a spasm while holding my 18 month old daughter. Just standing there. Bah. Thanks to Unilocal,my wife found active care and dr Karm thankfully had an opening. We talked for a while and she let me explain what was going on, and what I thought, blah blah. I’m a guy, and as is typical of course I already had some ideas as to what was going on… Because I’ve taken all of zero physical therapy related classes in my life.
Anyhow, dr Karm was great, and she fixed me right up with an adjustment. Was back at work (boo) the same day after a tasty lunch in palatine. 3 days later and I’m as good as new!
First (and second) time visit to a chiropractor, and it was a pretty darn good experience!

Dr. Karm took so much care to treat my ENTIRE person. Went in with pain/​numbness/​tingling in my arms. Had symptoms for 4 months, seen 4 specialists who couldn’t really pinpoint a problem. Last-​ditch suggestion by my OBGYN sent me to Active Care Chiropractic and I’m so glad they did!
2 months later, I’m pain/​tingling/​numb — FREE.
While undergoing treatment had some «stress-​knots» in my shoulders & neck that were also addressed by Dr. Karm. Plan to continue to go to the office for «check-​ups» every month or so.
Would recommend them to ANYONE. The staff is there for whatever you need.

In my life, I’ve visited 6 chiropractors and Dr. John Cress is the most thorough and competent, by far. What I like most is his professionalism, including how he consistently honors his appointment time (more than any doctor of any kind I’ve dealt with in my life).
Also, there are different techniques to spinal manipulation. A lot of chiropractors have to put their body weight on you for adjustments. I am not a big fan of that. Dr. Cress is physically strong enough that he will very rarely have to do this. As an extra, he’s a pretty funny guy and a good listener when you have an issue.
I am a lifetime suffer of migraines and headaches. I have been on medication for many years and still the migraines persisted. I met Dr. Cress and after a detailed history and exam he told me what he thought the root of the migraines were and after one month I am no longer on medication. More importantly, I rarely get any migraines anymore and when I do the Dr. Cress taught me how to offset the cause.
The office staff is also very friendly and competent and able to run the ship on the off chance Dr. Cress is not in.
Overall, it’s everything I could want in a chiropractor. I highly recommend for anyone with a migraine or any health issue.

Sometimes your bod wages a war against you. Despite my absolute best intentions to stay healthy and fit during my pregnancy, certain parts of my body are just straight up angry with me. Like my hips. And my heel. And probably a bunch of other things. Yes, this is a soon-​to-​be-​me relinquishing control and accepting that the literal weight from the child I’m carrying has created a few less than stellar effects on my system. But it’s cool — I hear it’s worth it.
That being said, I looked around a bit for a local doc who was well versed in two things — 1) chiropractic adjustments and rehab for my angry foot and 2) someone who could address any necessary measures to keep the cookin’ kid in a good place. Thus, my meetings with Dr. Amanda Karm begun.
Dr. Karm is super knowledgeable in a cornucopia of bod related elements including bodywork & chiro (extra points for plenty of knowledge for those who are preggo), acupuncture, nutrition, and more. She assessed my sitch and gave me reasonable stretches to do at home, exercises to focus on and worked on pertinent places that gave me plenty of relief.
If I ever run into another situation when a body part or parts begin to break down, I’ll most definitely make an appt. with Dr. Karm again… she’s pretty great.
