Arlington Animal Hospital

I seriously love AAH. I have been seeing this practice for 5 years and I can’t tell you how much I owe them. I have three cats who see them, and they’ve diagnosed/​saved two of them. During a physical exam Dr. Jones heard a murmur in one of them, so I followed up with a Cardiologist and sure enough, he had tachycardia (when the heart beats too fast). If Dr. Jones didn’t find that, eventually my little guys heart would get large from working so hard and he’d get cardiomyopathy and die at an early age from that. He now takes atenolol which helps his heart slow down and effectively pump the blood out, so he’s all better!
As for my other cat, I came home from a trip last fall funding urine all over my apt. I knew something wasn’t right so I took my cat to see Dr. London and sure enough, the poor guy has diabetes (he’s also 15 and blind). In fact, he’s AAH’s first blind cat they said! Well, as you can probably imagine, managing diabetes is so tough! I took Chance in weekly and the insulin levels were never in range. Every time they took his blood glucose levels, Dr London would come in after to discuss it with me, but they didn’t charge me an office visit. There were so many new things for me (like feeding my cat on a schedule, finding the right food he would like, getting him to eat a full portion etc) that in the beginning I would call seriously ALL the time. They always called back in a timely manner, and every doctor I spoke with or saw was so informative, nice and patient. I had so many questions and they made sure to answer them all and help me understand best.
The good news? His levels were never right because after 2 months he went into remission!!! No more insulin for my guy, just diabetic wet food and a eating schedule. I couldn’t be happier and neither was AAH. Literally everyone :-) I worked a lot with the tech Connie, and she’s seriously great. I think the staff loves Chance almost as much as I do.

This place is always exceptional! From the service to the care for the animals they give 110% of themselves. They are by far the best vet I’ve been to. I just moved to the area and found that they were not too far from where I was moving and just took a leap of faith and tried them. I am SO glad I did. They treated my dog like their own. Friendly and caring staff, and superb service!

After moving to Virginia earlier this year, we decided to try out Arlington Animal Hospital. I have had to take my 12 year old dog here twice since moving and have had a great experience both times. Dr. Julie Duerler is very thorough and spent an hour each time in the room with my pup and me making sure everything was checked out. She takes notes on everything. I appreciated how she explained her recommendations and made me feel comfortable that my pup would be okay! Overall the entire office is super friendly and I like the old town, mom and pop feel of the office.

I’ve taken my dog here twice. Dr. Loss was great about prioritizing diagnostics when he felt a mass in her belly and Dr. Holder is the sweetest person ever. They even fit me in next day for a sick appointment. We ended up taking our dog to a different low-​cost vet for an expensive surgery but will definitely keep using AAH as our primary source of care!

We have a new puppy, and I’ve been bringing her to Dr. Holder at Arlington Animal Hospital. Dr. Holder is great — thorough, knowledgeable and gentle. It’s obvious she loves animals. Everyone there including the front desk folks and nurses are so friendly. They all seem to be genuinely happy to be there. In addition to the great reviews here, they also are recommended by Consumer Checkbook. I look forward to bringing our dog to this neighborhood business for years to come.

Excellent staff and service. Love Dr. Jones. We have gone here for 14 years and I am especially impressed at the way that they WILL work you in for a medical emergency.

I have been taking my dog to Dr. Jones for the past 4 years. I have had nothing but a wholly positive experience at the Arlington Animal Hospital.
Dr. Jones is responsive, caring, and professional, and I greatly appreciate how involved he is with my dog. The staff has always been friendly and competent, which is not common in admin offices in this area. Mostly, all of them genuinely care for animals which shows each time I see them interact with the pets that are brought in, not just my own.
There are a number of closer vet hospitals and a new one has opened up down the street from where I live; however, I don’t plan to take my dog anywhere else. I definitely recommend Dr. Jones to anyone looking for a vet or thinking about changing their pet’s vet.

A friendly staff, and a wonderful vet: Dr. Fred Jones! Communication with me before and after my cat’s visit (and general anesthesia) was outstanding, and Dr. Jones has a delightful and confidence-​inspiring manner. He explained everything that he was doing during an exam, made it easy to ask questions, and called to follow-​up.
I recommend AAH without any hesitation or reservation.

Not particularly impressed with this place. I took my dog in for a routine speying and was quoted a price. When I went to pick up my dog the price was 20% more expensive. Additionally, they wouldn’t even bring out my pet until they swiped the credit card as if I was going to pick up my pet and make a run for it. When I inspected my pet, there was still caked blood around the operation area. I will not use this place again.

I am the owner of a sensitive indoor cat who hates going to the vet (or simply does not like to be told what to do…) Anyway, after reading online reviews, I decided to take my baby to visit Dr. F. Jones at AAH for a routine exam. Immediately upon entering AAH, I noticed the waiting area was clean, well-​lit; the receptionist was very courteous and professional. Dr. F. Jones greeted us there and offered to carry my cat into the exam room. (This never happened at other places) In the past with other veterinarians, my cat would hiss and fuss on the exam table, but guess what? She was completely calmed and relaxed with Dr. Jones! Dr. Jones was professional, attentive, and genuinely cared for the well-​being of my baby. He provided us with detailed recommendations, and a long-​term plan as well. He patiently listened to me and answered all questions without rushing. The assistant, Lori, was a sweetheart too!
I cannot believe I have been going to another place for years (Hint: Arlington’s only feline clinic)! At this other place, I often felt rushed and many times, they would recommend really expensive (and unnecessary) procedures. NO MORE I say! AAH, on the other hand, is a true community-​oriented animal hospital where your pets will be well taken care of. I cannot recommend AAH enough for pet owners in the area!

I can’t say enough good things about this place and about Dr. Jones. My three year old chocolate lab, Handsome, loves Dr. Jones!!! We recently moved, and Handsome loves Dr. Jones so much, he would not go to another vet. We drive thirty minutes to go back to Dr. Jones, and Handsome can’t wait to get in the door. It’s so hard to find a good place and a good doctor. Unfortunately, Handsome has had many health issues, and Dr. Jones has given him amazing treatment. He truly cares for your pet, and he goes out of his way to explain everything to me, take my calls when I’m in a panic, and is always so patient. He’s just the best. The front staff are also really great. They have always been very courteous to us, patient on the phone, and always pleasant. I highly recommend this place! Handsome will make certain, that we go to Dr. Jones forever! :)

If I could give Arlington Animal Hospital 5,000 stars, I would do it. They have been nothing short of incredible in the short few weeks I have been going to see them.
I adopted my new kitty a month ago, and they were recommended by the shelter as being one of the best. And wow, they were not kidding. Every single person there is dedicated to incredible customer service (to humans and to pets). They are responsive, they are compassionate, and they go above and beyond. (They submitted my insurance claim *for* me when I had to bring her in recently). They are deserving of every accolade I have — I cannot say enough how wonderful they are to me, and to my new cat.

I HEART Arlington Animal Hospital! I’m kind of a hypochondriac, and I rub that off (force it upon) on my baby pug as well: P Finding a doc is a tedious process, but, boy, am I glad that I was able to find Dr. Frederick Jones at AAH! He has a great calming personality, and my pup, (who is usually a spaz like her mama), always does extremely well with her check-​ups — she is very head– and paw-​shy, and all her previous vets never really adjusted and accommodated to this issue, and both of us have always left anxiety-​ridden. Dr. Jones, who owns this practice, always takes his time during the scheduled appointment, never rushes you, and answers every single question/​concern you may have — I always mention to my husband that the doc has a magic touch! He is very professional, caring, and deduces to the correct diagnosis. In addition, the VAs (veterinary assistants) are always such sweethearts, and they really take the utmost care in handling your furry baby. This vet hospital provides wellness check-​ups, vaccination administration, diagnostic services, dental work, travel exams, injury/​pain management, and performs surgeries, and scheduling an appointment is a breeze with their helpful and professional front desk! They even have a pet portal/​online pharmacy for convenience! Free residential parking can be easily found around the block, and there are limited spaces in the Dominos plaza. If you are looking for a trusted, reliable, and a knowledgeable vet, check Arlington Animal Hospital out — you will NOT regret it! Even if I move, I will always bring my pup here: D

Dr jones And his staff do a fantastic job. The staff is warm and friendly every time that I take my dog here. Their building is a little bit older, but has a lot of charm.

If you love your pet, please don’t go to this clinic. Our poor cat was given terrible treatment, in which his limb was further damaged (sprain). We ended up having to go see a specialist for a routine (splinting) task, and will not be bringing him here again. We would certainly file an animal medical malpractice suit, if such a thing existed.

I have been taking my dog here for over a year. Each visit has been very pleasant and professional. The front office staff is very courteous both on the phone and in person. The vets and vet techs have helped me on numerous occasions and have given me honest advice on what I should do– which included not bringing him in yet and gave me tips that worked. My dog got better with their advice and i didn’t need to bring him in. They have even called to follow up after they received the paperwork of my dog’s trip to the ER to check on him. I highly recommend Dr Jones and his staff and have recommended him to others who have become patients here.

Full disclosure, I only visited this vet once, but I was extremely pleased. My cat had some bowel issues, and the emergency clinic I went to previously suggested she get tested for kidney disease, so I brought her in here. I was able to make a next day appointment, which was great because I was obviously pretty anxious about the health of my cat.
When I showed up, the receptionist promptly copied all the medical records I brought in for my cat. I only had to wait a few minutes for my appointment, and the doctor couldn’t have been nicer. She made sure to tell me how cute my cat was (and what pet parent doesn’t like to hear that?) and was great at both explaining what she was doing, and dumbing it down for me. When I visited the emergency clinic in Alexandria the vet used a lot of medical terms, and I had no idea what she was saying (I’m a lawyer… and like most lawyers, I went into the field because I can’t do math or science). The doctor conducted the test really quickly, and told me she would call the next day with results. She did (and yay… my cat was fine!).
I did find it a bit odd that the vet requested that you sit and wait for a few minutes before you can check out, but, that was only for five or so minutes. I saw all the other people who came in have to wait as well. And the front desk was very nice about opening doors for people who appeared to need it. I liked that extra touch of kindness. All the people here really seem to love animals.
The only thing I would have changed about this experience is the lack of parking. I was able to find street parking, but I imagine it’s not always that easy, and lugging a huge cat cage a few blocks isn’t ideal.

Debated about writing this review but I wanted to warn other pet owners to be careful with the guidance from this vet. I took both my cats in for a routine exam and pre-​teeth cleaning blood work. The vet noticed some sort of odd heart sounds in both cats and made notes in the charts (which I confirmed later) but didn’t mention anything to me.
A few weeks later, one of my cats was dead from heart failure and the other was hospitalized with congestive heart failure. I know that things get missed but I will always wonder if my cat would still be alive if I had known about the heart trouble and had gotten him on medication. My other sick cat may have avoided an expensive emergency stay in the hospital if I had known earlier about their conditions.
Make sure that you follow up on the results of the exam and ask plenty of questions.

Wanted to update this review to reflect the quality of care, empathy, and professionalism of Dr. Jones and his staff at Arlington Animal Hospital.
A few months ago, Cesar, our dog, took a turn for the worse and we began to discuss the idea of putting him down. Dr. Jones was patient, understanding, but most of all, he was honest with us. We appreciated his candor and his overall commitment to the well-​being and quality of life of our dog.
Cesar was put down a little over a month ago. But, it was such as positive (as weird as that sounds) experience for us. We couldn’t have asked for a better vet and staff to help our lil’ man to the other side.
Thank you for all that you do! We are so grateful that you were a part of our dog’s life.

i’ve been to many different vets to find the one that works for my dogs. let me start off my stating that both my dogs have issues. Vegas has epilepsy and requires medication for the rest of his life. Paris is allergic to the Lyme’s vaccine and ruptured a disc in her back. they also always seem to find themselves in other mishaps since they are small and like to eat everything off the ground. because my dogs have issues, i really value the personalized care that Arlington hospital provides. they genuinely want to get to know my dogs and their history. when small issues pop up, i call the dr, and even if they cant see him, they will listen to the symptoms over the phone and always provide some kind of advice on how to help them. even if the dr is busy, he always called back. one time he called at 9 PM to make sure all my questions for answered.
when we got a new addition to our family, Pika, they were super nice and gentle with him. and every time we go in with Pika they ask how Vegas and Paris are doing. they genuinely care, which is more than i can say about other vets.
while this vet is a bit on the pricey side, i think the care they provide is worth it. i will never take my dogs to another vet!
