Having studied Tae Kwon Do for several years in the past, I am pretty picky about a martial arts school. I shy away from ‘belt factories’(schools that rush you through the belts on a schedule, without regard to personal achievement) and like the personal touch. You definitely get that here. My 9 yo stepson(new to TKD) and I have both love it here. They started us off with private lessons to learn the basics and have been integrating us into the main classes over time. They are *very* good with kids, have the perfect balance of encouraging respect and discipline in a manner that does not feel ‘drill sergeanty’. Master Lewis and Ms. Song are both very kind and caring people and they make you feel ‘part of the family’, while taking the martial arts themselves very seriously and promoting a formal, respectful tone in class. Although I have a lot of experience with TKD I am pretty well out of shape and it has been many years since I have done this, but they are allowing me to move at my own pace even though it is very different than my child’s. AMA has a variety of class times and kids & adults can train together, but the school is very young and still pretty small so you get a lot of personal attention.(Though the school is young, the instructors are very experienced, so do not fear on that account). For those with TKD experience and who care about these things, the style seems to me more ITF than WTF influenced.(I have done both though don’t have a strong preference for one or the other). I highly, highly recommend this school.
