Since 1979, Bill’s True Value Hardware has been providing quality service and hardware/​home repair products to the community. We offer many services, including sharpening, screen and storm window repair, in-​house locksmithing, and much more. In addition, our Garden Center also features a comprehensive fishing supply area.

History

Established in 1979.

Bill’s True Value Hardware opened its doors in 1979, in place of the former Read’s Hardware. In 1988, Bill acquired the Robertson’s Five and Dime building on Buchanan Street, across from the main store. The following year, we relocated the Hardare portion of the business to that store, repurposing the Lee Highway store as a Garden Center.

In 2000, we expanded our outdoor living department to feature a full line of Weber barbecues and accessories.

Skip all the big box stores like HD and Lowes. The guys here know what they’re doing and they know the products they offer. Shop local and get advice from local knowledgeable people not corporate automatons. Know your taxes are helping to pay for your Fire Department, your Police Department and your teachers – supporting a quality community. I actually save time by shopping here instead of going to the gigantic box stores. They know 20 times more and they offer quality selection.

I came here to get keys for my office copied. The wait time to get the keys was a bit much but I expected it. Friendly staff. Private parking lot. Will come back to get more keys copied if needed.

I’ll never shop here again. I Bought a $ 30 dollar tube to go sledding with my family. It ripped the 2nd time down the hill. I took it back in and was told no returns or replacements. Not even an offer for me to buy another one at any type of discount. I live 2 blocks from here, but will be taking my future business elsewhere. It’s not about the money, but the complete lack of customer service. I guess retaining local customers doesn’t mean much these days.

I agree with a lot of reviewers, this place is expensive and the selection isn’t that great. But you are paying for convenience and the expertise they provide. I’ve asked these guys probably thousands of dollars worth of advice and how to do stuff and they are always helpful. The difference is totally noticeable compared when I go to Home Depot and need to replace a switch, search everywhere for someone to help, and when I find someone they don’t know enough to know whether the switch I am buying is the right one. So I won’t buy 50 bags of mulch there, but odds and ends I need and some advice, they are the place to go.
Also, this True Value is the main place to get rental gear in Western Arlington.

Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. I live in the neighborhood, so this is my local hardware store. Every time I have gone in, the staff have been on point. I am not especially knowledgeable about home repair projects, but the staff have always been able to answer all my questions and set me going in the right direction. Nowadays it’s so rare to find such a human element in their customer service. The owner seems to remember everyone who walks through the door and asks them how past projects turned out. I’m very impressed with the store.

Stopped in today for a few odds and ends and the staff was super helpful and friendly. Was greeted with help the second I walked in. I’d rather go to these guys than home depot where they have to ask three different people a question before you get a believable answer.

I find that staff at Bill’s hardware rude and unhelpful. While spending over $ 800 on a grill, they acted as if I had purchased a light bulb and had very little knowledge of the Weber products. I have lived in Arlington for over 15 years and prefer Cherrydale Hardware as the staff at that hardware store are consistently helpful and know the products they sell. It is as if the hardware staff at Bill’s are on some rehabilitation community re-​entry program. Their knowledge is very limited and their attitude is hardly customer friendly.

I recently ordered a new grill from Bill’s and the experience was excellent. After struggling with the typical large hardware stores, these guys clearly get it. People want a grill set up AND delivered. They were on time, had reasonable rates for delivery, and did an excellent job showing me how to get started. I would highly recommend.

Bill’s is probably my third favorite (of three) local Arlington hardware stores (after Ayers and Cherrydale, in that order). The staff is really friendly. They’ve generally had what I needed, but their stock isn’t that broad nor that deep. Somehow, Cherrydale hardward, which seems to be a much smaller store, has a much more comprehensive selection. Bill’s is fairly close to my house and I often pass it on my way home, so I’ll stop in if I need something. But, if I’m looking for a wider selection, I’ll head to Ayers or Cherrydale Hardware first.

They could take customer service lessons from the hardware store just north of them. When I ask for an item I usually just get a finger pointed to the generall direction of an item and an answer of «downstairs» or «aisle 5.»

The local store with whatever you need for your home or garden. Ok, the staff isn’t the most outgoing, but if you are, and you ask, they will give you whatever help you need. Yes, a bit more expensive then the big boxes, but think of the time savings (getting there and wandering around the big store), and you’ll find it is well worth it.
I heard their grill prices are actually lower than the big boxes. Also, you can order anything from

This place is OK, but very expensive. If you live nearby, you’re paying for convenience, which is fine, but seriously some of the items here are like 20% higher than MSRP. Especially the Weber products, and don’t even think about asking them to pricematch any other store or even charge you just MSRP, they will say «this is my price, if you don’t like it go elsewhere». I’m fine with that, and I do go elsewhere most of the time unless I am desperate, but other hardware stores and especially big box stores are way less expensive. I am rating it two stars instead of one because about ½ of the staff here are actually quite helpful/​friendly, which is rare these days. Too bad the other ½ of the staff are rude/​useless.

Been here a few times for garden supplies (never for hardware — i was actually referred by another local hardware store who didn’t have the garden items I needed) and have been very very pleased each time.
Each time I go, there is a real-​talk salesperson there to assist (including finding the right item (s) for my needs, pointing me toward the best deal, alerting me to their very generous return policies (I bought a big clay indoor planter and was told I could return it if I didn’t like it even if I’d used it) and sales, and even helping me schlep stuff to my car.)
Bottom line: The prices are right, the service is friendly and no-​nonsense, and the selection is good.

These guys are always quick to help. They even took back a thermostat I had installed and needed to return without making me feel like a jerk. I can be there and back before I would even be able to find a parking spot at Home Depot.

This is my hardware store of choice. While much smaller than a home megastore, I have yet to go there and not find what I wanted. Typical experience was this Sunday: I roll in with a burned out specialty lighbulb from my range hood. I am met at the door by someone who asks if he can help me find something. I show him the lightbulb, he immediately takes me to an aisle, helps me find the exact match, and then walks me back up front and rings me up. In and out in about four minutes.
I’ve purchased plenty of home maintenance supplies there, lightbulbs, HVAC filters, caulk, fasteners, tools, etc. They are also a weber dealer so they have grills, propane, and hardwood charcoal. I can’t recommend this place enough. A polar opposite of the frustrating Lowes/​Home Depot experience.
