DC Pro Movers

A nightmare and a con artist. They broke my $ 5,000 treadmill, my wood easel and other valuable items. The walls and even the floor were scratched, and nicked with several large gashes. They dragged my treadmill along the ground breaking it. When we arrived at my destination they wanted to charge me three times the estimate. When I balked at the exorbitant price they threatened to take my furniture to storage. Finally after blackmailing me for three times what I should have paid and I called police, they unloaded everything into my garage and kept it unassembled and broken. I am sleeping on a mattress because they disassembled my bed, refused to assemble it back and lost the screws. I was only moving 10 minutes away. They are also crooks. Without my authorization or knowledge they charged my card an additional 1100 dollars My last move was with a company called DMV movers from Va to MD — one hour away. They were wonderful, on time and moved everything perfectly with no damage for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend them, Sadly They were not available for the day I needed so I hired DC movers instead. The worst decision of my life — they are unethical, dishonest and will destroy your walls, floors and doors and break your furniture and refuse to compensate you. The workers do not work for the company but are day laborers and not well trained. The merchant’s response below my original comment is full of lies. I have photos of as garage full of broken, disassembled furniture including my $ 5000 treadmill which no longer runs (why would I move a treadmill that doesn’t work!!!). This merchant is dishonest, will fraudulently charge your cards and will destroy your merchandise and your home. Really? 1,080 according to him to leave furniture unassembled, without screws and broken in the garage in violation of the contract and refusing to honor any claims for the broken items. I strongly warn anyone to find a different mover!!!

The merchant’s response was filled with lies and dishonesty. I have photos of my garage full of broken furniture, the broken treadmill etc. Who would spend close to 1100 to have assembled furniture dumped in their garage? Why would anyone move a heavy broken treadmill? They broke it. It worked before they moved it and now it won’t turn on. Who would accept a mover who damages walls, doors and floors. I have photos of that damage. On top of it, this merchant fraudulently charged my card and my fiancée’s card (that he had inadvertently left out to pay for some food) without our authorization or knowledge so that the total paid equaled what he wanted. He refused to honor the claims per contract for the broken items. Again he is a crook who has a blatant and unconscionable disregard for customers, contracts and the laws of the United States, I urge customers to seek a reputable and honest mover like DMV movers and others. But stay away from DC Movers… or you will find yourself swindled.

We recently used this company to move from our condo to a small house. The movers were on time and brought additional help if needed. We were all moved in within a couple hours and there was no damage to any of our furniture or items in boxes.

Move ended up being more than twice the estimate. They did not bring enough packing supplies or a large enough truck and tried to blame me for that fact. They also were not carful enough with our things — broken shoe racks, tape stuck to items, dents in leather chairs, legs put on improperly for the dressers/​night stands, and boxes not delivered to the correct locations based on their labels (basement boxes in the upstairs office, dining room in the master, etc). I felt like the men doing the move were hard workers led by a man who was only interested in finishing the job and not providing the service described by Luna on the phone. I have learned my lesson — never ever agree to a moving quote without an in-​person estimate. A terrible experience and now with every box I open over the course of the month that has gone by, I find something else broken or scratched or ruined and it just reminds me how unfortunate this experience was. Truly I believe I am owed money back but it isn’t worth the hassle of arguing with Avi.

I moved not too long ago and decided to hire dc pro movers based upon recommendations by some friends in my area. I’ll admit I was very nervous because I’ve had bad experience with movers before. I’m happy to say that that was not the case with dc pro movers. they really worked hard to wrap my things carefully. They were fast yet careful and efficient. None of my things got damaged from the move and they kept great track of all the boxes !
Dc pro movers also has a very friendly and courteous staff making them a pleasure to work with in every way. Their pricing was also very reasonable and I couldn’t be more happier I hired them !

I was convinced to use DC Pro Moving after reading the reviews about them and I was not disappointed.
I received a prompt reply and follow up phone call when I requested them for the quote. Luna was extremely polite and helpful; I was given an excellent price for the full packing and moving service. I was called the night before to confirm the schedule and they showed up on time.
The team safely packed all our belongings. Everything went according to the plan and in my new house they were very helpful in unpacking and placing everything in the right rooms.
If you are looking for a moving company who take pride in their work I can surely recommend Dc Pro moving!
Moving can be a hassle, but DC Pro Moving made it easy and hassle-​free!

I would think twice before using this company. I chose them specifically because we needed the company to have insurance per our apartment building request. We professionally packed our moving truck and used them just help us unload and bring up our items up the 1.5 flights of stairs. They dinged up multiple pieces of furniture that were in pristine condition and they ripped our couch in multiple locations. We complained only about the couch because that was were the majority of the damage was hoping the insurance they have would help cover the cost of our very expensive couch. Yet– they only offered us 25 dollars (They later increased this to a total of only 50 dollars after some fighting). AWFUL. We are still fighting with them to get more money back (we got a quote to repair the couch that totaled WELL over what they offered us). DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

These guys are horrible and VERY shady. Stay away. They broke most of my items and went way over their estimate. They were horrible. They sent me two very small men– one of the men complained the whole day about how he was sick and just sat around most of the day, doing nothing. I recommend College Hunks Moving if you are looking for a great company.

Personally, I’m not sure how these guys have so many positive ratings. I should have listened to my gut and not gone with them. Unfortunately, I was trying to save money. BIG mistake.
Some background:
I have moved more than 30 times in my life. The last one was about this time 3 years ago from Philly to DC. (Here is that review:
) That move cost me less financially and mentally than this move from Arlington to Fairfax.
For the Philly to DC — With three men, the total loading, transportation and unloading was 7.5 hours (including a 2.5 hour drive from Philly). In addition, I had to supply a cashier’s check to pay for the move at the conclusion. I got one based on the estimate … and ended up getting a refund because the move came in under time and budget. Also, for perspective, this was a high-​rise building to a home with no elevator.
This weekend, from Arlington to Fairfax — With three men, the total loading, transportation and unloading time — including the 30 min drive was six hours. This also was from a high-​rise, but to a garden apartment, third floor with an elevator.
In addition to taking a full hour more, which is outrageous to me – I’ve gotten rid of things, the final cost was nearly triple the estimate.
The original estimate was $ 297, but the total cost was more than $ 800, which included more than $ 250 in ‘supplies’ — what those supplies were, I don’t know because I was not given a list or quantity of anything. (To be fair they tell you you will pay for supplies. However, $ 253 for supplies is OUTRAGEOUS — an estimate from a recent Home Depot trip, it should have cost no more than $ 100 — at the retail mark-​up price. I cannot imaging what the wholesale cost is that the movers should be paying.)
One of the reasons the Philly to DC move went so well is that EVERYTHING was packed and wrapped. As I’ve mentioned, I’ve moved a few times; I know what I’m doing.
In fact, when the Arlington to Fairfax estimate came in, they only thought to plan for two movers. In the last several moves, it’s been three. So, I asked for another and the estimate was increased to the $ 297 to reflect the addition. However, I am not naïve in that the $ 297 estimate was a low ball to get my business. So, in my head the estimate was $ 500.
In addition, to just ridiculously slow work and overpriced supplies, the movers tried to cancel on me by leaving a voicemail.
To be fair, on Saturday there was 6 inches of snow, crazy roads, etc. In fact, I got stranded. But my move was SUNDAY when temperatures reached 50 degrees.
The voicemail I got was to tell me that there was black ice and that they’d move me on Monday. No «hey we may be late, we want to be safe,» etc. Trust me, I don’t want anyone to be unsafe, but I got the call at 9 am telling me there was black ice when I had been out on the roads at 5 am — getting myself home — that call was someone who didn’t want to do the job. In fact, when I called back to talk to a human, he asked if I needed a locksmith. Apparently, he was willing to go out for a side business, but for the work he had be scheduled for, I would be moved the next day.
Literally, in all of my moves this was the worst, the longest, and the most expensive. I do not recommend you go with these guys.

They seemed cheap and professional, but the surprise comes in the final invoice when you have to pay in bubbles used for wrapping your stuff several hundred dollars. You found out about it in the middle of the move, when they ask you to pay the total invoice or they stop with all your things already in the truck.
Also, you have to call them several times to get your deposit back.
Very dirty way of doing business.

I think a combination of factors led to a bad moving experience. We underestimated the amount of furniture we had, granted. But the cost of the move ended up being over $ 250 more than what they had quoted, most of which was in unneeded packing supplies which they repeatedly told me was required in the confirmation email… which when you’re trying to get a truck loaded in a specified time period (apartment elevator reservation) you don’t really have the luxury to stop and check. Items that I wouldn’t have bothered wrapping if I had rented a truck myself were completely plastic wrapped and taped. All in all I will probably try another company for my next move.

I had a wonderful experience with DC Pro Moving. I had a mid-​day Friday move, and I was given a window in which the movers might arrive between 1−3pm which made me a litte nervous. At 12:45 I got a call that they were 5 minutes away. Johnny and Aaron (I hope I got that right) were super fast and professional. I was moving from a storage unit to a townhouse. They wrapped all my furniture super quickly, and the whole move was finished 1.25 hours after they started. I didn’t have that much stuff so I’m sure not all moves are that quick, but still!
They manuevered a very narrow staircase, two flights of stairs, and it cost exactly what I was quoted. Definitely will use DC Pro Moving again.

They did move me quickly which is positive but that is about it. They were supposed to arrive at my house between 8 am and 9 am. At 8:30, I got a call saying that the truck was breaking down and they couldn’t get a new one until 10:30 and they would be at my house at 11:15. When they arrived there were three workers instead of two, this was an attempt to get the job done quicker which I suppose they did. But then I had to pay for three movers rather than two, though they did give me a discount. Once we arrived at my new house, I realized that they left both the footboard and headboard at my old house. They wouldn’t take any responsibility for this, even though I told and showed them where everything was and the boards were right next to my mattress. It would have been the logical choice to pack them. Then I was charged a larger amount than I expected, I was told by the sales representative that one hour of moving time was included in the quoted amount but that gas, wrapping and tape were all extra costs.

Horrible customer service. They, especially the lady, were very rude on the phone with me so I didn’t use them.
Anecdote: My friend just signed up with them and he got $ 69/​hr for 2 men and a truck + fees. This fits with what their website says: «85/​hr» + «Contact our sales representatives now to learn about our current promotions and receive up to 20% off your move.» = about 68/​hr. I called them and asked for the same rate. He (the owner) kept trying to haggle with me and said $ 79/​hr is the lowest he can go. They said the website says «UP TO» so it is their discretion how much discount they give. Then he said $ 75/​hr is the lowest he can go with no additional fees. I said I’d think about it. His wife or some lady calls me back later and with a very nasty and rude tone of voice first tells me I misread the website and the website does not say what I said it does and that the 20% discount is not applicable (in spite of me reading it to her verbatim and telling her my friend just got the discount), then says the owner «never said ‘no additional fees’» because she was standing right next to him (when in fact he did say that). It was as if she was trying to play Mrs. tough guy by stubbornly trying to deny the facts for the sake of winning the haggle. Then she went on to basically say with an even more demeaning tone of voice that I’m wrong and she gave me an ultimatum — either take this final offer or no deal. She said I’m the one with the issue because other customers haven’t had an issue with the website. The whole time my voice is calm and I never really fought or argued, I just made the point that the website/​friend price is different than what they are saying. So I said I will get back to them. I call them back and the owner (the guy) picks up and I say to him that they have to honor their website and the price they gave my friend — he acquiesces and says he will do $ 69/​hr. Then when I ask about availabilities (3 weeks ahead) he says he is busy for each day I ask about (I ask about 4 days) and that he can fit me in the afternoons but this is after-​hours and the cost hikes up to $ 75/​hr. After their poor customer service and dubious haggling, I just said forget it.

I would give zero stars if that were an option. As another reviewer mentioned, this business has several addresses. Either way, if you see the name ‘DC Pro Movers” look elsewhere. My husband and I contracted with DC Pro Movers to move from a 1-​bedroom apartment in DC to a house in Silver Spring in the fall of 2013. Things were smooth when making the arrangements via email. The day of the move is when everything fell apart. The guys showed up to survey our stuff and said the truck they had brought was too small. They then called the company to see if a larger truck could be sent, but it was already being used. So now we would have to make 2 trips between DC and Maryland. I reiterated to the movers that the condo we were moving out of has strict rules when you can use the loading dock and freight elevator and that we had to be out of there by 6 p.m. at the very latest. They said this wouldn’t be a problem. Well, it was. The movers were not moving quickly at all, and my husband and I ended up helping them move items to the truck (really defeating the entire purpose of hiring movers in the first place).
We finally have the first round of items packed up and my husband and I threw some other boxes in our cars to drive them out to the house to aid in getting as much stuff out there in 1 trip as we could. As I am pulling into the driveway of the house, the movers call to inform me they are taking a lunch. I remind them that we need to be out of the condo by 6 p.m. About 45 minutes later, they arrive with the truck.
Again, we help unload the truck because we are worried about time. Finally, with about half of the truck unloaded the movers say there should be enough room for the rest of our things. We head back to DC for the final trip. Again, they continue to move slowly so we barely make the cutoff time of 6 p.m. (Let me add the moving process began in the morning.) Additionally, they were constantly wrapping items in bubble wrap that didn’t need to be – such as an easy chair or wooden dining room chairs. We kept telling them to move things as they are – we don’t need any more packing help. If it’s not wrapped, we chose not to and we will assume the risks.
Why were they so interesting in wrapping items? Well, it’s because they can charge you extra for it – which they did. And they also took some of our boxes and combined them into larger boxes – charging for those as well. Unfortunately, we didn’t notice the extra boxing until later unpacking since we had to do a fair share of moving our own boxes we couldn’t supervise the movers the entire time to stop this. Also, since they charge an hourly fee, I can see why neither of them bothered to move very quickly. The longer they are moving, the more money they can charge.
I think it was about 8 p.m. by the time everything was unloaded from the truck. My husband and I spoke with a manager at DC Pro Movers and he knocked about $ 100 off our bill for the inconvenience of the truck size. But it didn’t help much. Our original estimate for the move was $ 316. I expected that there would be some additional charges for time so we assumed maybe $ 600 max. Our bill was over $ 1,000.
Please look elsewhere for movers. If the estimate seems low, do not be sucked in. I didn’t even have a Unilocal account until today – and I made it just to finally write this review to warn others.

The worst experience I have ever had. Gino was a complete con, not only did he spend over 20 minutes filling out the paperwork and they were over 3 hours late to start the move, but he also managed to do very little when he was on the job. There were two movers — Gino was a disaster always disappearing, taking his time, and spent over a hour to drive less than 6 miles from the old apartment to the new apartment. It took me 15 minutes to arrive at the new apartment and the movers were no where in site when they finally did call it was 50 minutes after I arrived. Then when they went to the loading dock they disappeared in the building for another 20 minutes and finally when we located them they said the elevator button wasn’t working. When we they finally started they took up one load and then Gino spent another 15 minutes filling out the final paperwork even though the job was not finished yet. They took 5 hours to move the apartment even though since they were late a friend and I took everything out of the apartment aside from the sofa, a table and a mirror. The other guy who was working with Gino was the only good part of the move. He did his work and its unfortunate that Gino who barely lifted anything (literally) walked around while the other guy worked away. When Gino finally picked up a package he dropped it and broke three frames which were inside and marked as fragile. A total rip off. Buyer Beware!

This business has multiple addresses and references. This is the address that is on my estimate.
I contracted with DC Pro Movers for 4 hours of service, which included 1 hour of travel time plus additional fees (fuel surcharge, etc). The total estimate was 354.75 with my living social coupon. I only needed my furniture moved to my new apartment 2 blocks away. My apartment is a 2 bedroom and I asked for less that 20 pieces of furniture to be moved plus any heavy boxes. The estimated hours on their website for a 2 bedroom apartment is 4 – 6 hours for a full service move. Since I required little to no packing services, 4 hours was the minimum charge. Luna was my moving specialist. The movers arrived at 3:20 pm, I had asked for a 2:00 — 3:00 pm arrival time because of the freight elevator reservation. Two movers showed up with a 10′ truck. Benny, one of the movers, looked at my furniture and complained that customers «do not tell the truth» and that that company told him that it was not a furniture move and more people, bigger truck, and lots of other stuff was needed. He argued in his native language to his supervisor while less than 3 feet from me. While I did not know what was being said, it was clear that Benny was very upset with this job. Benny would not elaborate on what type of move he was told, but I told him that I wanted the furniture out. I complained to the supervisor, Avi, and was told that DC Pro Movers would move my furniture to my new apartment and if they had room, the heavy boxes would be included. He also offered to have someone come out to help with the remaining boxes on Saturday (or after, sometimes he said «Sunday» instead of «Saturday»). I told him I just wanted the furniture moved, plus any heavy boxes as per my quote. During my conversation with Avi, I learned that Avi was person on the phone that Benny was complaining to earlier. Avi told me that he would have Benny apologize to me for complaining and accusing me of not telling the truth. Avi also instructed me not to talk to Benny and that we (Avi and I) would talk on Sunday. I found out later that he was unavailable until Sunday because of Sabbath. It took Benny and his helper 6 hours to move less than 20 pieces of furniture from my apartment on the 8^th floor to the loading dock using the freight elevator. We drove the 2 blocks to my new apartment and they began to unload my items. I bought them pizza and soda. At 10:51, Benny proceeded to tell me that I now have to pay $ 1092.47 in moving charges for a move of less than 20 pieces of furniture and 3 boxes, which included nearly a $ 256 charge for packing materials. The price did not include my living social deal either ($ 100 off). We were going 2 blocks! They did the move in one trip. I told him that I was to talk to Avi and that I was not signing anything without speaking to Avi first. He explained Avi could not be contacted due to the Sabbath and if I did not pay, they would hold the rest of my furniture on the truck. DC Pro Movers had my dining table top (the legs to the table were in my new apartment), queen platform bed headboard and box spring (the mattress and bedframe was in my new apartment) and sofa sleeper. I offered to pay the price I was quoted, $ 354.75, but Benny said he could not accept this money. I had a copy of the quote on my cell phone. I called the Arlington county police. The police arrived and told us both it was a civil matter. Benny left with my items still in his truck. He said he would drive around with it until he received $ 1092.47.

This company does it all. It’s no joke that I’m a lazy hateful packer – it’s my least favorite activity. So for my most recent move I saved my dollars to have a full service move and unpack. When I found this company I was VERY impressed with the price, and what they did for the money. I barely had to lift a finger between my old house and new one! They didn’t make me feel weird for not wanting to do ANYTHING having to do with the move, and they worked quickly and charged fairly. Highly recommended for this type of move, or any – they can definitely be trusted with it all!

No one likes to move; however, if any company can make it a pleasant and painless experience, DC Pro Moving and Storage can.
From the time I called to request an estimate until my goods were moved, the staff was extremely professional throughout the entire process. In fact, I had to re-​schedule my move date, and they accommodated my request immediately. Any questions I had during and post the move were immediately and professionally addressed beyond my expectations.

This was my first time using a professional mover, so I was very worried about this process. I’ve moved over 11 times in the last 9 years, and I’ve always done this myself; however, my husband refused to move the coach one more time.
I chose DC Pro Movers after much debate because they were very persistent about getting my business; however, the reviews online were iffy. After sending a deal that was better than the rest I had, I decided to go with them. I didn’t have a single problem with the movers. They were on time, courteous, and worked very quickly. The problem came about when I got my final bill. I had expected my bill to be higher than the quote, but I didn’t expect to spend $ 100 on bubble wrap and tape alone. I called the company, and they worked with me because I’ve wrapped my own items before, and it didn’t cost me that much. I only let them do it because they were confident it would be cheaper. It wasn’t, but they worked with me and gave me a discount.
Avi called me afterward to make sure that I was happy, and it was a pleasure speaking with him.
The only thing I would warn someone about is to make sure you carefully read the price quote list and supply your own tape.
