I even brought a photo, and the«stylist» still managed to give me my worst haircut ever. There is no chance that I will ever let any of their incompetent hacks anywhere near my hair again.

I’ve gotten my hair done twice here and all I can say is Mailka is hands down the BEST stylist at this salon. I saw her my first visit and she was so sweet and friendly and made me laugh the whole time. I usually do my own hair but I had and event and wanted to pamper myself a little. She washed, trimmed, blow dried and curled my hair with a wand for a soft wave/curl. She took her time and did an amazing job, my hair was shiny and voluminous and smelled great! My second visit I called ahead and they told me she would be there at noon, but when I arrived they told me she was sick, I was annoyed bc I was already there so I decided to try another stylist, she was good however my curls fell apart as soon as I left the chair, and I didn’t have that issue the first time. I’ll definitely be back here again and again but only to see Malika!

Remember how I said there wasn’t much to write about? Well, today changed that. I’ve written, erased, and rewritten, but I’ll just dial it down to the basics. 1. Needed a haircut. Drew BB from the line up. 2. BB urned me at a 45-degree angle and started to cut. I thought this was to facilitate her cut. Well, I now think it’s to keep folks from seeing her carnage in the mirror. 3. I tell her not to go too high, follow the curvature of my head to the mid point and fade from there. She cuts almost all the way and I suddenly realized what the hell just happened. I turn myself to the mirror… and panicked. I looked the worst in my decades of existence on this planet(think of Asian hair as a lopsided mushroom — that was me at this point). 4. Barber next to her sees my anger. Says something in another language and then told me she’d fix it. BB moves on to the next customer. 5. The Fixer(I don’t know her name, was too upset to care) fixed it the best she could, but because BB plowed my head like a cornfield, she didn’t have much to work with. 6. Despite the 100% smile guarantee, she still charged me. I was confused since I was frowning so hard, I could feel the corners of lips on my chest. 7. Rather than arguing over $ 18, I paid for the client the fixer was working on(he graciously offered to let her fix me so I could get out of there) and left. I’ll put it this way, if Hana’s not there, I’m not going back, even if it is walking distance from the house. The only good thing is that it’s only two weeks of suffering.

I have read the negative reviews on this shop and totally disagree! Today was the second time at this Hair Cuttery. I had a positive experience the first time and today was the best that I have had anywhere in a long time! Sirena B did a fantastic job! I have very curly hair and try to keep it straight and she absolutely understood what I was looking for! I will make sure to get Sirena on my next visit!

There are times when you just need a trim, so I went to Hair Cuttery. Serena made my day! She sat down and took the time to ask what I pictured, then suggested a style which would fit my face. She is awesome, all for just $ 24.00. Serena is my new BFF

If you are a guy, and you care about your hair, you know how tricky it can be to find a good stylist. This particular one is pretty good, and Mikelia is hands down the best there. She’s just good with people.(Awkward some times when someone has their hands in your hair but doesn’t speak with you.) Been going pretty routinely now for over a year and no complaints. Definitely book in advance, and go during the week as it is seemingly more open.

I live Eden or Von to cut my hair, so I only go on the days when I know one of them are probably there. They used to have a manager there that was not very pleasant and kind of rough around the edges she is no longer there The new manager is very nice the place is always very clean and depending on when you go there’s not much wait

Mikelia is the best. She’s the only person I let touch my hair, I don’t even do my hair myself. She’s done everything from extensions to color for my sister and I. She’s the sweetest stylist ever and I always leave looking 500x better.

Customer service is not existent here. The front desk has no sense of how to communicate. At first I thought it was a language thing but I have been other places where although English was not the native language the service and experience was remarkable. There are two Oriental women who are snotty and rude. Why do I come back? The stylist who I use and who cuts both sons hair is pleasant and does a great job. It’s hard to find a decent place unless you want to pay a lot. I’ll put up w the BS until something better comes along.

I had been there several times and had gotten a decent haircut… Until today. I actually left in tears. I told the lady(I’m not even going to call her a stylist, because a pair of scissors do not belong in her hands) that I wanted a ¼ inch cut to get rid of the dead ends and hat I had long layers that I wanted cleaned up. She started at the back so I couldn’t really see what she was doing. About 5 moms into the cut, I saw she was cutting off about 3 – 4 inches. I immediately stopped her and asked her what she was doing! She had no clue. Then she had the nerve to say, oh well I will cut less on the sides… Seriously? I left with hair 4 inches shorter than I walked in with and it’s now about 5 different lengths… I will never ever be back! I guess the saying goes, you get what you pay for. From now on, I will spend the money to go to a professional.

Not a huge fan but I go here only because I live in Shirlington. It is hit or miss. This last time the lady missed spots on my color and had to come back for correction. The black lady at the front desk is usually rude. The stylists are nice but as I said, hit or miss.

The first time I came to Mikelia I was in tears, literally! A stylist at another shop had over processed my hair and it was falling out in clumps. She was kind enough to squeeze me in and pretty much worked on me all day, from cutting out all the damaged hair to installing a full weave. Through the whole time she was kind and chatty helping to take my mind off my hair disaster. And the final results were AMAZING! I was a loyal customer from there on out. If you value customer service AND quality, come see Mikelia.

What is hard to understand a «trim.» I came in for a trim and ended up losing 4+ inches on my hair which I had been trying to grow out. Also, I had just GOTTENFREE of «layers» and she CUTLAYERS into my hair again. I’m pretty livid. I’m not high mantaince or anything but this is crazy I’m still in shock as to what happened. I don’t get it. Honestly I dont think I’ll ever get my hair cut again from anyone since the word«trim» is so hard to understand around here. This area is full of $hitty businesses and this clearly is one of them.

I tried a couple Hair Cuttery locations in Arlington/Alexandria and this one is the best. There are a few stylists here who are really good, but Hana is the best. She has been cutting my hair for a couple years now and she consistently does a wonderful job. She’s very precise with her cuts — and clearly knows what she’s doing. I’ve tried a couple of the higher end salons in the area — and found the quality of their cuts to be inconsistent. For the price, you can’t beat this Hair Cuttery!

This place is like playing russian roulette with 4 bullets in the gun. Today I walked in asking for a hair cut similar to a fo-hawk and came out looking like a fucked up hilter. This was after the second person tried to fix the first persons hair cut. There are a few people that are good there but the eminent threat of them not being there has finally scared me off. Oh and while I was waiting a woman had to bring her daughter back twice because someone else had done a shitty job on her hair. I would do 1 star but the extra star is for Ruthie, the only one there that is able to cut my hair properly.

I went by to the Hair Cuttery last week for a Keratin Treatment. I have friends who had tried it but for almost 2X the price here. When I walked in, I asked about it, and a stylist let me know that she could help me out and take me at 630 in the evening. My stylist was a young hip girl named Alem. She used to work in a fancy salon in downtown DC so she has skills. I could not be happier with the treatment, my hair is perfectly straight and she did a great job blowing my hair out. I will say that another woman was supposed to close and she told my stylist that she couldn’t do it in the time allotted. I found this irritating, as it was $ 159 service and i would like to think that they’d do almost anything to capture that. However, my stylist showed the other one. I was in and out in two hours and my hair was super smooth and straight. Going to visit Alem is a MUST do. :)

I am fortunate enough to have easy, wash and go hair that I wear naturally curly. Unfortunately, most salons that cater to «ethnic» hair require me to give up most of my Saturday — and argue with the stylist when I don’t want it blown dry straight AND would like her to cut it… all while dropping down a minimum of $ 70. Oh yeah, I would also have to wash my hair when I get home becaue I don’t have all the tools and my roots would start curling back up within 2 to 3 hours of getting it done. I have FINALLY found my angel in Artise — she cuts my hair, WELL, and understands why I don’t want to blow it straight. AND… I don’t have to bring a novel to read while all my day is wasting away. Plus, she’s hilarious — what more can you ask for? I highly recommend her to any curly-heads out there.

I have a very contentious relationship with Hair Cuttieries. I’ve been to them all over and it’s always hit or miss. But then I was in Shirlington for a movie and I did a double take. «Was that a Hair Cuttery?» I looked inside and saw a rainbow coalition of all ethnicities and styles being done. Not primarily Korean like so many of the other Cutteries(not that I dislike them personally, but I have a rockabilly-type of cut so it’s mostly born-Americans who understand what I like)… so I eventually went and got what was one of the best cuts of my adult life. Eventually, an older punker woman came to the shop and became my regular. She did amazing things to my hair and made it look more badass than ever before. Her name was Toni. Alas, Toni was too good for HC, and moved onto a higher-end salon in Alexandria. And all the diversity I spoke of before? It’s gone now. The last time I went there would BE the last time ever. The woman butchered my hair, made it too short and overtextured it within an inch of its life. So the bottom line is that it used to be great and if you can find a stylist that can do a good job, hold onto them for dear life. Otherwise, you take the life of your own hair into extreme potential danger.
