Hair Cuttery

I’ve been hair with my sister in law, and it was nothing special! One of the ladies would NOT stop gossiping it was like she was describing a tell all book! I couldn’t wait to get out of here! I think from now on I will do my own hair! Huh Chief

Not bad if you just need a quick trim, it’s inexpensive and there is usually not much of a wait. The staff, for the most part, all look miserable like they’d rather be anywhere else in the world. I walked in to the front desk and the woman there ignored me for at least 30 seconds. I know you can see me, ackowledge I am here! Nobody is friendly or chatty like in most salons, when I tipped my stylist she said NOTHING and there was no reply to my «have a good night!» when I left. I wouldn’t go so far as to say anyone was outright rude, just pouty and miserable.

Took my 2 boys for a hair cut. Requested a regular boys cut with scissors only, not the buzzer. One stylist used scissor while the other used the buzzer. To me a regular boys cut means shape but shortening the length. They got the super short look (aka «army style»), what is generally known as the buzz cut. Through the process neither stylists asked if the length was ok or if I wanted more. The children kept telling that they like their hair long. At the end the stylist asked me if the length was ok, and after I told her it was too short, she replied I did not give her enough instructions. .Didn’t want to make a scene in front of the kids. Could have achieved the same result, ultra short, with a buzzer at home. Not happy at all, and neither are the kids who are crying because they feel they look stupid.

What drew me to this place were the positive Unilocal reviews and the bargain-​price haircuts. For $ 16, the woman washed my hair and cut my hair in about 15 minutes. For the price, I obviously can’t expect a high-​end hair salon experience, but I was a bit shocked by how quickly my hair was cut. I had medium to long hair that I wanted cut short with layers. I was surprised that the stylist simply took my hair and cut straight across horizontally. I just feel like that’s something I could have asked a friend to do for me, instead of a professional stylist. Overall, I felt like the stylist did not put in much effort to help me get the look I wanted. It was an in-​and-​out quick kind of experience.
I don’t think I’d come back here again, but for the price and the fact that you can just walk-​in and get a haircut, this place isn’t that bad. I’d say give this place a shot if you aren’t too finicky about how your hair turns out and you need to get your haircut done really fast. Maybe good for children? I wouldn’t come here if you need to get a professional looking cut though.

Got my hair cut by John this afternoon. He was very attentive and did an excellent job on my hair. I just moved to town and have been trying to find a reasonably priced salon that does a good job. Paid $ 33 for a shampoo, cut & blow-​dry. Even though I had to pay $ 10 extra because of the length of my hair, it’s still $ 10 – 15 cheaper than other salons in the area. I was pleased with the results and will be going back to John in the future.

The other night a few girlfriends and I went to the Hair Cuttery for a girls’ night out event. The salon staff was friendly and nice — and very talented. It didn’t surprise me to learn that their stylists formerly worked on Newbury St. as each of my friends received a great looking new cut and style! Maryanne worked her magic on me and in about 5 minutes created an elegant partial updo that was a hit. The price for the quality of service can’t be beat — a shampoo, cut & blowdry is $ 23. Love that there is plenty of parking.

I agree with the previous reviewer — the man in there is NOT cut out to cut kids’ hair, but there are 2 other women — I wish I remembered their names — who did a great job on my son’s hair. One cut was a repair job from the hack job the man did on my son’s hair. I told him very specifically to trim the ends and that I liked the «bowl» cut look to maximize the blond in his hair. He completely ignored me — and I commented as he cut THREE times because he clearly wasn’t paying attention. My son ended up with a completely layered, shaggy cut — darkening his blond, messy and inappropriate for a 3-​year-​old. I didn’t have the cajones to complain on the spot, but asked one of the women to «tweak» it when the man went on to another customer. The look in her eye told me she understood my dissatisfaction, and she did the best she could with what she had. I think the place itself is OK — just don’t bring your kid to the guy — he’s got some passive-​aggressive issues.

I would like to update my review to 5 stars because of the work and attitude of Josh and Letrille. The experience above was a one-​time event. All other times have been good experiences. In particular — I went in on 7÷11÷12 with my two children — an 8-​year-​old girl with a Rubik’s cube of a knot at the back of her neck that I was going to have cut out — and my 4-​year-​old son who has jet-​strait hair that looks choppy and unkempt if it’s not cut just so — minimal layers. They did a fantastic job on both.
Josh got my daughter’s knot out with some sort of magical detangler, a comb, and patience — then gave her a very nice trim. Letrille gave my son the perfect cut for his picky hair. I’m thrilled and will continue to go back.
