Kenny’s beauty Academy is a a right school to be a great hair stylist they have a wonderful instructors to teach and to be sure that the graduated student get his licence, also Kenny and Nicky are very helpful and support the students to get the skills to be a professional in the beauty industries.

I purchased the groupon and was really just not sure what to expect, I don’t spend a lot on getting my hair cut so it’s always a toss up. Making an appointment was easy and Nickie Smart, an instructor, cut my hair while teaching (a very opinionated) student. She did an amazing job and clearly is a very talented lady. Definitely going back and definitely appreciative of my high quality cut!

I went in for a last minute appt for an updo at Kenny’s salon before a wedding. I booked the appointment because they were the only salon in the area that could take me with such short notice. I did not have an idea of what I wanted but the hairdresser assured me he would make me look «modern and elegant.» He first showed me an example of what he would do and it was absolutely gorgeous! The entire updo only took about 45 minutes for him to complete. It was truly a work of art. While I was paying at the counter Mila offered to do my makeup as well. Since I do not have very good makeup products at home I agreed to get my makeup done. She did such an amazing job. She even put on the eyelash extensions which I always have trouble doing at home. Although it took almost 2 hours I was very happy with the outcome. She is a master of the «smoky eyes». I can’t tell you how many compliments I got at the wedding. Everyone wanted to know where I got my hair and makeup done. Thanks to the entire staff at Kenny’s. I will return and recommend to my friends as well.

The best of the best in DC metro area, period! You won’t find Kenny in a fancy hair saloon that overcharges for a mediocre haircut or an average color which will look even worse the moment you return home. Suggested by a colleague, Kenny is the most talented artist in its true sense of the word of his profession! I discovered him 2 years ago shortly after moving to East Coast after a desperate search for a hair-​stylist who could fix a bad coloring/​haircut I had a few days prior. Kenny not only restored the color, listening to what I was looking for and suggesting and giving my hair most natural tone, and he gave me the best haircut I had ever had. As if that is not enough, he can be reached on his cell phone at odd hours — if not, he will personally call you back and will likely squeeze you in to his schedule even if it means he’ll be working after the regular hours late into the night — a true lifesaver for busy professionals! Several times when I ended up with another hair saloon simply because of travel/​being out of town, I ended up going back to Kenny each time to get my hair color restored and haircut fixed. Although the salon space is still pending renovation, the owner — Kenny — is Arlington and DC metro area’s best kept secret! I’ve never seen another stylist so passionate and immersed in transforming the hair style into the amazing style it should have. It is a sight just to see him work! Once you have a haircut and/​or hair color done by Kenny once, you will realize no other hair salon in the region can ever compete with the talent he has. You will be back, again and again. Purchased a Groupon for an organic keratin treatment, just thought I would go once but now I am a regular client. Kenny is very honest & if he thinks he can do a better color/​cut than what you come in with he will tell you & he will do better. Love the organic keratin (done it twice now — had been doing regular keratin for 3 years). He is a wiz with color & knows what type of cut is perfect for your lifestyle & your hair. I am a convert! Let him suggest a color and/​or cut and you wont be sorry.

I’ve been going to Kenny’s for ages — this is the new location (the other one was in Ballston).
Nothing but great haircuts from the man himself. I’ve always been happy with my haircuts here. This is a completely different salon experience from Ballston, and I actually really prefer the space now.
There’s also a full service salon (waxing, threading, facials, makeup etc) right next door-Jenny’s-that does a great job on brows. Recommend.

The universe led me to Kenny’s! I just moved from Michigan and before I even found a place to live permanently I was walking to Giant supermarket down Washington and saw a sign that said nails above the 7 Eleven. I needed to have my toes polished. Eventually, I needed a place to get my nails done, my hair styled and color, and my to get fills for lash extensions. I thought I would have to audition different locations to get the right ones. Well, let me just say when I wandered into Kenny’s, Sophia did an excellent job on my toes and I decided to come back and have her do my shellac polish for my nails. Again her manner and her skill brought me back again. While there I spoke to Kenny who explained about Jenny who was going to move in within the week for lash extensions among the many other services she offers. Kenny was doing a woman’s hair, the conversation and the confidence she has in Kenny convinced me I had to come back again for cut, styling and color. The customer suggested I just let Kenny decide what would look good on me and let him do it. Today I turned my hair over to him and came out looking and feeling beautiful! One service led to another which led to another until within three weeks of being in Washington DC area I have been back to Kenny’s three times for four different services. I walked out of there a new woman with an updated beautiful look and extremely natural looking lash extensions by Jenny. I really cannot say enough about the most delightful group of people who seemed all there to assist me with personal and intimate experiences which made me feel most welcome in this new city I have chosen to live. Not quite sure about the negative reviews, but figure the staff that he has now is all different from when those reviews were written. Kenny is the talent and he has gathered together a new staff that will charm and take excellent care. Let me be your universe and guide you to Kenny’s for a staff that is warm, caring and highly skilled. I have found one place to have all of my needs met.

I got the best mani/​pedi here on a past business trip. Kenny is the nicest guy and his staff is always warm and welcoming. Highly recommend if you live in the Arlington area.

I have always had a great haircut, styling and color from Kenny. The staff is courteous and one time accommodated my schedule for a funeral.
The hair products used are great and very good for sensitive hair and scalp. I wish the wax was better for sensitive skin. I have had trouble communicating with some of the waxing staff.
They are moving to a new location on Washington Blvd. soon. I wish they would let you include the tip in your credit card.

Was tired of driving to Rockville to get my brows tinted and waxed (thought I still do for my hair cut) and had heard good things about Kenny’s in general. I won’t be going back.
I made an appointment with Monica for Saturday at 3. I arrive on time and they tell me that she’s not there. They bring me to the back to be taken care of by someone else. I wait 15 minutes for her to be done with a customer, and when she comes out I find out she does not, in fact, tint eyebrows.
I go back up front to let the receptionist know the situation and I will not be back because this is not how to run a business. She is personally apologetic but doesn’t seem concerned when I say I won’t be back.
Their website says «24 hour cancellation notice is appreciated» — apparently that only works one way, since they didn’t give me a call. I’m out my time, $ 1.25 for the meter, and my brows are still not done. Stay away from Kenny’s.

I have short, difficult, thick, curly hair. I went in to get it cut before a last-​minute job interview and needed something convenient, and Kenny’s was around the corner from me. My appointment was with Richie, who was very sweet and attentive. I told him I have thick, curly hair (as he could see), and told him I wanted it shorter, but that he could do what he wanted with it as long as it was shorter and it worked with the curl.
Whoo boy, did it get shorter. I got a super-​short, rounded blunt cut in the front with longer hair in the back that he fluffed up so it looked like I was constantly running. Every time I started to say something about it during the cutting process, he goes, «Don’t worry darling, it’s Italian.» I take some responsibility for this as I could have been clearer with the cut instructions, but the cut clearly did not work with my curly hair, which I explicitly asked for.
After he was done, he suggested I might want to dye it a fun color. You’d think I would’ve said no after how much I hated the haircut, but I was in denial, and I thought dying it would make me feel better, especially because the color he suggested is my favorite color, a bright, almost-​Crayola red, but with enough dark/​natural tones in it that I won’t get crap for it at work. It turned out a horrible coppery pinkish-​red. He clearly messed up, and I knew it, but I’m too polite to say anything, and I thought it would grow on me. Overall experience of day 1: 1.5 stars — stars only given because Richie was a nice guy who clearly had a vision — it just happened to be a bad one. Also, stars given because he knocked the price down for me because my hair is short enough to basically be a men’s cut. Stars lost because the haircut looked terrible, looked even worse when it grew out (hello, mullet), and the dye job had clearly gone wrong.
I went back the next week when I realized the color was not, in fact, growing on me, and that I absolutely hated it and would feel very uncomfortable going to my job interview with that hair. Richie fit me in the day I asked him to, and promised to try to change it. Given the nature of red dyes, the only thing he could really try to do was make it darker and hopefully get it to an auburn brown, which he was able to do. He very kindly stayed late in order to work with me. However, he charged me to fix a dye job that had clearly gone wrong, as it turned out many, many shades away from what it was supposed to look like. I realize that reds are risky, but don’t charge me when you make me look like a demented penny. Eventually, we agreed that he would charge me to style it at the end ($ 40) and not charge me for the dye. 3 stars for day two, because, again, Richie was really nice, stayed late when he didn’t have to in order to try to make me happy, and I was ultimately satisfied with the end color. Stars lost because the cut still sucked (not much to be done about that since it was already so short in the front), he charged me for something he messed up, and, well, when I pay that much money to go to a salon, I shouldn’t have to go back for a correction.
Bottom line: Richie is definitely a hair artist. I don’t fault him for that — I think it’s a good thing, and if you’re looking for a really edgy cut, he’s the guy to go to. And niceness goes a really long way in my book. But he didn’t listen to the open-​ended instructions I gave, and the dye job went horribly wrong. In the end, I wouldn’t go back. Curly girls, try LaRissa at Bang Salon (the Verizon Center location) in D.C. instead!

I purchased a bloomspot coupon here for a keratin treatment because the reviews seemed good and the location is fairly close to where I live. I was really excited about it, and although getting an appointment was a bit of a hassle (they apparently don’t do them on Sundays, and most of the other times I suggested were already booked), when I finally got my appointment booked I couldn’t wait to go.
When I arrived (Thursday around 4) the place was empty and Kenny greeted me along with the stylist who was going to do my hair (I believe his name was Ramy). Kenny suggested that due to the length of my hair (very long) and the fact that it was «virgin» hair (no color, treatments, etc.) that I try the thermafuse treatment, which was an organic version of the keratin treatment but would produce similar results — he said it wouldn’t be pin straight, and it would be more of a natural-​looking straight, but it would still last about 3 months. I was hesitant, because I had heavily researched keratin treatments and not this organic version, but Kenny assured me that my hair would come out straight and the results would last, but it would be a better option for my hair.
The stylist who did my hair was nice and explained the process as it happened. They made sure I had magazines and water, and overall the experience was pleasant. He told me at the end that he would need to wash my hair and dry it once more (different from the keratin treatment). I told him that since he was going to do that, that I would like a trim as well. After he finished, I LOVED the way it looked — it was straight, sleek and chic! When he completed my hair, I went up to pay and I was charged for the trim (which I expected) AND a shampoo/​blowout (which I did not expect, as he had told me that he had to wash and dry it one more time as part of the process, but it happened so fast I didn’t realize this at time otherwise I would have pointed it out). I also paid for a bottle of conditioner (they were out of the shampoos for the treatment, but they gave me a sample one for free). Overall, I paid $ 85 (not including tip) on top of the coupon I had already paid, the bulk of that being for the blowdry, which again, I don’t believe I should have been charged for.
So overall a good visit. But here’s the clincher: the thermafuse treatment went away after ONE wash. ONE! I used the shampoo and conditioner provided but I came out of the shower and my hair was CURLY again. It literally looked like I had done nothing to it. I was obviously upset, because even with the coupon I paid an amount that was out of my price range, and Kenny had told me it would last for three months. Even two would have been fine, as he had told me it was a more natural look. But ONE wash?! I immediately called the salon and explained what happened, and asked if I could come in and get the keratin treatment I had paid for since my treatment did not work. The receptionist promised that Kenny was going to call me back personally the next day. That call never came. Neither did the four other calls I was told I would be receiving from the four other times I called and spoke with a receptionist.
I wanted to give more stars, because I really believe the stylist did a good job and it’s not his fault if the treatment didn’t work. However, I do believe that once it didn’t work, they should have tried to rectify the situation or AT LEAST returned my calls and tell me why they couldn’t do the process again. On top of that, and being charged for the blowout which I was told was part of the process makes it so that I don’t feel I could give more stars. I also can’t help but think that maybe the thermafuse treatment was pushed on me because my hair is so long and the keratin treatment is so time consuming that they just simply didn’t want to do it.

I came in to Kenny’s because I had dyed my naturally dirty blonde hair to a medium brunette and decided that being a brunette wasn’t for me about 6 weeks later. Kenny and the staff did an amazing job on my hair.
Kenny not only dyed my hair back to a light blonde, but also had to strip the color (that I had applied myself) because it was uneven. Yes, I was in the salon for more than 2 hours, but the staff made sure I was comfortable (water, soda, etc.). Kenny even offered to have me come in a few days later if I wanted any highlights added or to get a blowout (since I was going to a bridal shower/​bachelorette party) that weekend.
Yes, the salon is a bit expensive but still about on par for the area. I would definitely recommend Kenny’s.

I have been to Kenny’s hair salon three times: 3 cuts and one dye session. I have to say that each time was great! Kenny cut my hair all three times and I loved them! I have thick, wavy, and naturally dry prone hair so everytime he has cut my hair he makes sure that my layers lighten up my hair as well as keeping it easy for me to keep up. The staff is respectful, nice and are always ready with some Turkish tea or even white wine! ;) I am from NYC where if you are not careful the salon staff can and will try to make you buy expensive services you don’t need. Kenny and his staff are talented, no nonsense, and a pleasure to see each time. My hair color came out gorgeous and has not faded since I was there. Woot! ;)

I’ve had nothing but good results just walking in and getting haircuts and waxing here, which I’ve done about five times. Most of the stylists are men who are probably eastern European. I’m into a little small talk when I get my haircut, but prefer to relax rather than chat the whole time, and that seems to have gone over well here.
I’m not one to ask for a specific cut, and am more likely to just say «about this long, with some layers, something fun», and I have gotten nice haircuts that way. I think I’m a kind of easy customer, but I recommend being an easy customer when it comes to hair: Get a decent stylist and let them do their job — they usually come up with something better than my crappy hair ideas anyway. That’s my soapbox :-)
The prices are moderate here (I’m a woman and pay around $ 50 maybe for a cut), and you can usually save money by insisting you don’t want your hair styled after it’s cut.
Basically, this is a no-​gimmick salon that’s made me look good every time I’ve been there — so I’m happy!
