MTFA Architecture provides award-​winning architectural, engineering, and interior design services to the Metropolitan area, as well as other various locations on the East coast. Our expertise is in mixed-​use, religious spaces, urban planning, educational, and institutional buildings. Our historic preservation division, John Milner Associates Preservation, has over 140 years of combined experience in all aspects of historic preservation — preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, and reconstruction.

History

Established in 1989.

Michael Foster, like many successful business owners, started his architecture firm in the garage of his home. It didn’t take long, however, for his building designs, along with his creative can-​do personality, to gain a strong influence in the Arlington marketplace. After several years in a small suite holding about 20 employees, MTFA Architecture moved to Lee Highway into a modern office designed by the architects themselves to keep up with the increasing growth of the firm. Shortly after the move, John Milner Associates, Inc., became part of the MTFA family and now provides historic preservation services under the name John Milner Associates Preservation.
