If I could give zero stars, I would. I saw Dr. Filipescu one time. During that one visit, he claimed that I had miscarried and that he was sending a sample to the lab to confirm. I have never been so devastated in my life. When he told me, he couldn’t have been more cold. My heart was completely broken. I nearly crashed my car on my way to get an ultrasound to confirm, since they didn’t have the capabilities to do one at the office. The ultrasound tech said he had no idea what the doctor was talking about, and that I had a viable fetus. The doctor called me and told me I would still miscarry. I spent weeks destroyed and stressed out.
My daughter is now a happy, healthy, energetic and outgoing 14 month old. Forgive my language, but screw you Dr. Filipescu.

Horrible! I needed a quick culture swab and after waiting 45 min in the exam room, I left. I carved out time in my work schedule to go into the office and lined up my client calls in the afternoon. I understand there are circumstances outside the doctor’s control for delays happening to the schedule, but this was ridiculous. I didn’t go in for an exam or anything that might potentially take longer than expected. I went in for a procedure that required a culture swab and an in-​office diagnosis. What a waste of time. I left feeling like they should pay me for my time!
For some context, I was the last appointment of the day and I saw the doctor talking to one of his staff in his office on my way out. That probably could’ve waited the 5 – 10 minutes it would’ve taken to take care of what I needed.
The support staff wasn’t very helpful or understanding, but I’m assuming that’s coming from the terrible leadership of this office.
I’ve requested a copy of my records and am going elsewhere.

I’m sad to see such bad reviews for Dr. F and Dr. Dipaolo. I have been their patient for over 22 years. I primarily see Dr. F. In the beggining, I didn’t like’em b/​c i thought he was too cold & a little rough, but after a few times, he grew on me! He delivered 2 of my 3 babies without a hitch. He is old-​school, but i love that. He is always available and on-​time! Unfortunetly, I can’t say that for Dr. DiPaola. Yes, she is very nice, sweet and gentle, but she is always late (30−60mins) and rushes in with her coat-​tail flying up, talks for a few mins and she rushes out. She did deliver my 3^rd child, b/​c she happen to be there that day, and she did an awesome job! But i much prefer Dr. F!
Their support staff is another story! Many years ago, they had the best front desk/​nurse person ever and they have never been able to fill her shoes!!! She was personable, super nice, knowledgeable and above all — professional!!! I feel like everyone they have hired after, must be still in nursing school.

Recently moved to the area and needed to get established with doctors, dentist, hair dresser, etc… I set up for an appointment with Dr Filipescu for a few reasons: he accepts my insurance, his office is walking distance from my apartment, I was pleased with most of the reviews I read about him and he is a Board Certified surgeon (not that I was anticipating needing his surgical skills, but that speaks to his qualifications for me). During my first exam, he found a significant mass on my ovary and suggested I have an ultrasound right away. This was done at a separate facility and he called me with the results the next day. The mass was the size of an orange with a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ chance of being ovarian cancer. We discussed the options and I decided to wait and see if it went away on its own. After 2 months, I had a follow-​up appointment with him and the mass had grown. Again, Dr F sat down with me to give me all my options. There was no strong pressure to have surgery, or to do anything, for that matter. He simply just gave me the facts and answered all my questions. I took some time to do some research and decided to have the surgery to remove it. During the entire process, both before and after the surgery, he was compassionate, calm, reassuring and supportive. Although he has some «old school» qualities and a very dry sense of humor, my husband and I were very confident in his abilities. The surgery went great. I recovered very quickly, with no use of narcotics after the 1^st day and my scar is barely even noticeable. If you are not accustom to his personality type, I could see where you could easily be offended by him. This was insignificant to me because, when it mattered the most, he was tender, kind, gentle and competent. I would definitely recommend him as a doctor.

I really like Dr. F and I am not one to usually see a male doctor. He is very kind and gentle and professional and I really appreciate that. And QUICK. On one of my appointments he had to check something under the microscope after the exam and he was done and diagnosed me before I was even dressed and in his office.
His Fairfax office is easy to get to, parking is fine, and appts are easy to come by. AND I don’t have to wait there forever like other doctors offices. It’s also decorated really nicely by one of his other daughters who is an architect. I have also seen his daughter, Dr. DiPaolo and was happy with her as well.

Dr. Filipescu is way too old school for me. My orginal Ob was dr. Dipaolo and I had to rotate between the two in case Dr. DiPaolo wasn’t on call when I delivered. I felt every time I had a question regarding my pregnancy he always dismissed it with, «it’s part of being pregnant». When I was 8 months pregnant, i had very violent dizzy spells and when I told him, he said it was part of being pregnant. I found out after I had my baby, my primary doctor told me I had vertigo and gave me something for it. The wait time to see either doctor for me was always 30 – 1 hour. My time is valuable since at that time I had to see them during my lunch hour.

I move every six months, so I’ve had several gynecologists. Dr. Filipescu is by far the best. Yes, he does have a dry sense of humor, but saying «no more torture for the day» as he did with me after a routine exam, well, that’s just funny. Because, let’s be honest ladies, it’s not very fun. I don’t really understand the offense to the person below, but hey, everyone’s different.
Anyway, he’s always very reachable by communications as well as in terms of making an appointment. His staff is friendly and they work out payment plans for you if you get an unexpected cost insurance won’t pay for. They are understanding and everyone is empathetic to your needs. Always professional and caring — he has daughters, and delivered his grand baby (awww). He is very direct, doesn’t sugar coat any problems, and very willing to answer any questions thoroughly if you have them, with drawings.
I give Filipescu and his office two thumbs up!

I used to go here just because it was convenient… but can’t do it again. One time I was waiting naked for Dr. DiPaolo in an office for 45 min! No idea why they have not told me to wait in the waiting area for longer instead. It was very degrading. Another time while taking a pap smear test, she asked me how old I was. When I answered, she unceremoniously proceeded telling me that my clock was ticking and better hurried up and had a baby. When I said I was single and was not thinking of babies at that time, she told me I just needed to get a baby because it would be too late later… I do not need that from a doctor.

Dr. Filipescu was alright, but then I made an appt with Dr. Diapolo. I was only 3 months along my pregnancy when she started talking about how she wanted to schedule a c-​section, because it was convenient. I am perfectly healthy too. Convenient for who? Her? If you want to avoid a c-​section, then I wouldn’t go to this practice.

I think Dr. Filipescu is a fine gynecologist, not that I’ve gone to him for much more than pap smears and birth control prescriptions. As the one reviewer mentioned, he does regularly caution against drinking any alcohol at all, but I presume that’s just part of what he does in his practice. Although I didn’t feel instantly comfortable with him, after a few appointments, he and his dry sense of humor have grown on me (once he joked about torture… without there being a joking quality to his voice). He was willing to work with me regarding birth control issues. He seems above all very competent, devoted to patients being comfortable, and willing to share information and his advice.
I intend to continue to see Dr. Filipescu unless I start to question his judgment, which has not yet happened.
I also like the staff. Occasionally brusque, but usually very straightforward people doing their jobs to the best of their ability.

I can only speak for our experience with Dr. Filipescu with both of our children’s birth experience.
I was involved from the start with both child births, we couldn’t be happier and pleased with the service and the attention that my wife and I have received. This is a true professional with decades of experience and of community service, Dr. Diapolo; his daughter was as commited and competent as he his.
I am sorry to see a negative comment about this doctor. That was definetely not our experinece with him for the last 15 and a half years.

I read the other two reviews on Dr. Filipescu and decided to add another one. I have been going to Dr. Filipescu and Dr. DiPaolo for over 14 years now and I could not be happier.
They have delivered all three of my children and the process was seamless. Dr. Filipescu is very old school and has a particular way of conducting himself. As one review stated, he may not be rosey but he is very professional and more than competent. When I was a first time mother he was patient and made me feel very comfortable with the care he was providing to me. He does not like for moms-​to-​be to really drink at all, again he is very old school, so one glass of wine per week is too much as far as he is concerned but you make your own decision regarding that.
Yes, there are signs asking for «donations» but they are just that, donations meaning you don’t have to give. No different than the Salvation Army asking for donations or someone else asking for donations. He provides good care and I think that should be the main focus not the fact that you have to wait. Things happen to delay the doctors all the time. They have emergencies and sometimes someone actually has a baby and it may throw their schedule off.
If you want good care and are not concerned with having a rosey doctor, then Dr. Filipescu fits the bill.

It’s truly something to be said when hospital surgical nurses (and yes, I did say NURSES… as in more than one) shares other patients horror stories about this Father/​Daughter team of OB/GYN’s…
To make a long and painful story short, I had chosen to have uterine surgery with Dr. Filpescu and was FLOORED by the disrespectful, crass, rude, insulting, stereotypical, and hurtful comments that he made to me less than 24 hours after my surgery. He had no plans of following up with me post surgery while in the hospital at all after my very invasive procedure, and instead sent his daughter whom I had never even met (DiPola), to tell me how my how I should feel, instead of listening to how I DID feel. I saw the pictures where he basically had to gut out my uterus to remove 7 large fibroids and stitch the uterus back together. The next MORNING, she told me that I should go home that afternoon while taking over over-​the-​counter Tylenol for pain??? For menstrual cramps, sure. For a myomectomy, ARE YOU SERIOUS? The nurses had already warned me that his belief is not to give prescription pain medicine to his patients, and to make sure I stand up for myself because he and his daughter believe in pushing their patients out of the hospital too soon.
I finally DEMANDED that he visit me to discuss my surgery/​outcome/​treatment plan (because after all I didn’t know/​trust DiPola’s judgment), and that’s when he revealed that she was his daughter, and that I had to be a drug addict if I needed more to manage the pain (I’m paraphrasing his words, but basically that’s what he called me). And when I flatly said, «Sir, are you calling me a drug addict», he said «YES».
UNREAL.
Her bedside manner was so shocking and condescending (hidden behind a smile while she talked AT me thru her teeth), and he uses more curse words than is called for in everyday conversation. I couldn’t believe that I made such an error in judgment in choosing this practice. Luckily, I was smart enough to call in the patient advocate provided thru the hospital, but I was in tears the entire time and just begged them to discharge me that day so that I could get from under his care ASAP (probably not smart, but I was so emotional).
LADIES BEWARE!!! Now I see why they have signs posted in the lobby and patient rooms of their practice office asking for an EXTRA $ 15 per visit donation in addition to our normal co-​pays to manage the rising cost of malpractice insurance (i’ve never seen that in another doctor office in my life). And though his actual surgical technique was stellar (as far as I can see from the pictures), I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy.

If there was a way to give this place ZERO stars, I would do it.
I made an appointment with Dr. DiPaolo but ended up with Dr. Filipescu. The man is rude and obscene. First of all, the wait was an hour and a half before he came in. Second, while he was giving me a regular physical exam, he tapped me on the bridge of my nose, which, though odd, compelled me to think that he might be checking my sinuses. He asked me if it bothered me. I said no, since I felt no pain. He promptly responded that he had a cosmetic surgery license and that he could «shave off» the almost insignificant bump I have on my bridge. HUH!!! I was there for an annual physical/​pap, and the man is trying to cross-​sell me a nosejob!!!
It continued to get worse. He said he felt a lump on my breast after squeezing it so hard it hurt, and said I should get a mammogram and come back for a tissue diagnosis. Knowing that the man tried to cross-​sell me a nose job earlier, I did research on the internet, and found out that the procedures he recommended were not necessary. In addition, I tried doing a self-​exam over and over again to find said lump, but –nothing-​. I have a family history of breast cancer, which is probably why he thought it was opportune to try to get me to «buy» the unnecessary services that would earn him $$. I had a nurse and a doctor check me up at another office a week later, and neither could find any kind of lump after two exams, confirming my suspicion.
Dr. Filipescu’s general behavior was rude, and he brushed off many of my questions. Under the categories of professional ethics, diagnoses, and demeanor, I would nominate him as among the two worst doctors I’ve ever had to deal with in my life.
To top it off, one should check out the solicitations posted on all of the office doors: «Due to the rising costs of medical malpractice, we would appreciate a $ 15 contribution with your visit…»
Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is a new low.
