Perfect Pointe Dance Studio

Courtesy! The studio is run by a former hard-​core Russian ballerina. There are lots of different classes every day in 5 – 6 studios. Each studio has a video camera and youcan even watch your kids on the giant TV. For younger kids, they tend to focus more on technique and lessons instead of just being an organized play date. Our daughter has been going there for three years since the age of three and is making great progress.

The studio is incredibly organized and they give you a detailed calendar at the end of the year. They provide recital music for all the classes on their Web page, which is very helpful. However, I’ve found the technical training of the teachers is not as strong as the training of the teachers at my daughter’s previous studio (or at the studio I switched her to). The students are very recreational and they really don’t have serious students who want to pursue dance professionally, which is fine for most students. This is a good studio for someone looking for something fun to do. However, if you want serious technical training, I would recommend ballet nova, adagio, or washington ballet.

I’ve danced since the age of 2, so it was important to me that my daughter experience the best of what dance training can provide (learning poise, self-​confidence, mastery of technique and self-​expression). I also wanted to protect her from the potential dangers (nasty competition, unreasonable expectations and body dysmorphia). Perfect Pointe has been the ideal dance family for us over the last seven years. Cannot say enough good things about them.

Perfect Pointe is a great place for an all-​around dance education. Miss Kendra in particular cares about her students and families and goes far above and beyond to support them. She and the other teachers and staff promote the right attitude towards dance and provide excellent instruction.
My kids’ teachers have always been friendly, patient, and very talented. My daughters have taken ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, acro and modern classes here and have been members of the Competition Teams for several years. We are familiar with a few other Northern Virginia dance studios and we strongly prefer this one.

We came to Perfect Pointe because of its outstanding tap dance program. My daughters have stayed because it is a great place for an all-​around dance education with friendly, patient, and very talented teachers. The studio owner is a lovely person who has encouraged my kids to set personal goals and to have a healthy self image.
My girls have taken ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, acro and modern classes at the studio. They like the camaraderie, choreography, workshop, and performance opportunities of the Competition Companies.
Because we’ve moved, over the years we’ve participated in recitals of four different dance studios. By far, Perfect Pointe provides the best overall recital experience. Tickets for reserved seating are arranged online, so on the day of recital there is no need for parents to rush to camp out for spots. Dress rehearsal and recital dates are provided far in advance. The youngest dancers are entertained at their assigned tables with coloring activities. The studio provides a table of bun making supplies and hair sprays while volunteers assist with recital hair styles. Costumes and choreography are age-​appropriate. Very considerate!
Perfect Pointe is a small facility with only two studios at its main location and one additional satellite space. Some popular classes fill up quickly. Although a single ballet class session is comparable in quality to a class at Ballet Nova or Adagio Ballet, Perfect Pointe ballet classes generally meet only once a week until the highest level. This gives kids time to explore other dance styles, or allows students to dance at Perfect Pointe while taking part in school activities. I hope Perfect Pointe will expand in its current location.

First of all I should start by saying two things. I hate Unilocal.I have not been solicited to write this review. My daughter has been dancing here since she was three. She has had experiences with a lot of the teachers in the class or outside. She loves dance. Recently she found another sport which took her in another direction, but she continued dance classes. This year she tried out at ballet nova and was told she would need to be in three classes a week and she would still be one of the stronger dancers in the class. She would be dancing with girls maybe a year older but would be able to do a stronger ballet focus. I love ballet nova. I don’t have three days a week. We decided to stay with perfect pointe even though the class times are not working as well with our schedule. We got in with Mr. Phillip. He has brought dance to the for front for my daughter and has revitalized her love of it. We are not into competitions so much as performance. It is frustrating when you get a little girl in your class that only is there for «baby sitting» My little girl (9 years old), can get frustrated with those kids as well, but still does her best. The recitals are long and can be frustrating if your judging the kids in the performances. Most of these kids will not be dancing as a career and most will never do another recital in their lives. I think perfect pointe has the right attitude to share the love of dance for the love of dance. It is not a high competition studio and I’m glad. I think people in this area should take a long hard look at their objectives in finding a dance studio. If you are looking to compete I think Abby is always looking. If you are wanting to teach your children the foundations and possible the love of dance, the stay. I know my daughter will get better each year, but it really know she will always look at dance favorably. This is not because of me, but because she has support from the entire studio. Her first day of class, she wanted to make sure she walked down to say hi to Alice. Alice in turn knows her and asks very specific questions in regards to her life. I love this studio. I thinks can get improved, but I think those do as time goes along and Kendra continues to work on them. If your daughter hates ballet, she hates ballet not because of THIS studio. Go to another and good luck to you.

Our daughter has been dancing since she was 4, and she has taken classes at three studios: one that is now closed, Perfect Pointe, and BalletNova.
Perfect Pointe has some wonderful teachers and a very relaxed attitude. It can be great if your child is just taking classes for fun and exercise. We came back to P.P. after a few years at BalletNova because our daughter was too stressed trying to be perfect. She decided she just needs a class where she can have fun, get exercise, relax and enjoy dancing.
I don’t know about the owner; other reviewers mention her but we haven’t had much contact with her. I do agree that PP’s recitals are ridiculous — too many kids, the school where they’re held becomes a zoo — although an organized zoo — but packed way too full — and the dances are all somewhat sloppy, including the select troupes.
Also, the main office at Perfect Pointe gets very busy and crowded; it can be difficult to get the attention of the person at the desk, because she is being pulled six ways from Sunday by all the parents and children who need attention. To the point of another reviewer — yes, PP seems to have taken on too many children. They should increase their staff and front desk space accordingly, to maintain a calm equilibrium. That has not happened. Fortunately, we only need to go to the office once each semester, to buy shoes. So this is a inconvenience we can live with. But the parents of newer children, who probably have a lot of questions, must hate it.
If you want your child to learn technically correct ballet, I recommend BalletNova or Adagio. BalletNova had a teacher my daughter hated, but boy did she teach them beautiful form. Their Nutcracker is a lovely, precise, professional production — go and you’ll be wowed. They have two tracks of classes — the «fun» track and the «considering professional» track. We chose the «considering» track, and as we got closer to the Nutcracker performance, our daughter was rehearsing three and then four days a week — it was too much for both of us, but she was in great shape and her technique was perfect. Ultimately she decided to go back to P.P., because the quest for perfection was too extreme for her, but your child may differ. Certainly, it is far easier, as a viewing parent, to sit through BalletNova’s performances — quite a pleasure.

My daughter has taken a variety of classes at Perfect Pointe for two years. The staff is extremely caring and professional; they care about their students as young people as much as dancers. The owner personally goes far out of her way to ensure her dancers are safe, healthy and comfortable.

My four year old daughter was enrolled for a full year at Perfect Pointe and it was a very memorable, fun and educational experience for her (and me!). The staff was warm, friendly and very professional.
The owner was very interactive in her teaching and worked very patiently with the children. All the kids that I saw in her classes were engaged, smiling and excited to participate.
The best part for our family was seeing it all come together at the recital. The little ones were adorable and the older dancers seemed well choreographed.
I’d absolutely recommend Perfect Pointe and am considering enrolling both my children (daughter and son) next year.
