My previous review dated 5÷31÷14 is a review I updated on 9÷15÷2015. After visiting the shop three times for the same hair style over the years (kinky twists) I have a pretty good insight on what the shop offers. Key tips to remember are to do your own prep work at home BEFORE entering the shop otherwise it will be yanked and pulled out all day because these women are not professionally trained. Human hair is not supposed to make a ripping sound. Proper detangling starts from the bottom– never ever grab from the root and pull. Expect multiple people to work on your hair, which means you’re going to have different results. Be as specific as possible even if that means repeating yourself 5 – 10 times. I’ve been, someone comes in there requesting their hair to be fixed, but keep in mind they do not have to oblige once you’ve paid. Read all the reviews for this shop if you want a better picture of what goes on. I personally don’t mind some of the things that go on in the shop because I grew up getting my hair braided in people’s homes, you see all kinds of stuff. If you are sensitive/​shy/​can’t speak up for yourself, tender headed and/​or concerned about the overall treatment/​health of your hair, this may not be the best place for you. People come here due to convenience. There aren’t many places you can go and get your whole head done in 3.5 hours.

it stinks in there & not friendly at all

I came in last week to get waist length Senegalese braids. I had 1 girl at the front of my head, named Mooney, and she did a fabulous job. However the 2 young girls that did the back, half twisted my hair and did half braids. They were different sizes and lengths. I didnt notice the back until later. I came back 4 days later and spoke with Betty and she refused to fix the braids and told me to do it myself. I was literally in tears from her yelling at me. PLEASE take your money elsewhere.

I was recently a customer at this salon and seldom write negative reviews, but I felt I had to share my experience. I’ve visited this location 3 times for Senegalese twists. I have also referred 4 different women who have each gotten their hair done at least twice (which there are no referral discounts, so it’s not like I benefited from this). The first 2 times, my twists came out nice. The lengths were a little different and the sizing was different, but it was ok and I trimmed it myself afterwards. I love the location and hours that this location offers. I called the shop at 9 and asked if they had any openings and if possible if I could schedule a same day appt, I was told, no need, walk ins are welcome. I got there an hour later and 1 lady started on my hair asap. She blew it out, but for some reason didn’t use a comb. My hair was freshly washed and detangled from the night before. But the previous times I have been there they either didn’t blow dry it or used a comb in combination with the dryer (which is how it was done on 3 other women who came in). I had 1 person on my hair for about 30 mins before another stylist came in. I had previously told the 1^st lady, I was tenderheaded and didn’t like it tight. I was thankful she did not braid tight at all. The 2^nd lady, I told her the same thing REPEATEDLY and she STILL braided extremely tight. I also told her to leave my edges and baby hair out, and to braid loose. I was told it would last longer if it was tight. I told her I don’t care about that, I don’t want any hair loss and I don’t plan on keeping them in long, or if it began to look bad I could come back in for a touch up. She still braided it tightly. Then began the switching of stylists. I had a total of 5 different ladies doing my hair, and it shows. I have 5 different size parts, spacing, and sizes of twists. In the very beginning I also told her I want medium size to big twists and also showed pictures. The twists are smaller than any of the other twists I have gotten here, not to mention the twists are all different lengths. My head is so sore I had to call into work, I can not style them at all from the pain, and just left my bonnet on. (I’m tenderheaded but have gotten braids for yrs and expect a little discomfort, but the pain from this experience left me almost sick) Sleep is a joke at this point. I expect more for $ 200. This is expensive compared to other shops in the DFW/​Arlington area. I came here for the close proximity to my residence and for the speed. Speaking of speed, I went in at 10 and didn’t leave until 3:40 ish. Almost 6 hrs is ridiculous. I could have went to 1 person who would have charged half the price and done it in 6 – 8 hrs, when I called the lady quoted 3 hrs, 4 hrs at the most. I understand that some stylists only know how to do certain styles and have to go to other customers, but draw the line somewhere. 5 ppl in one head is too much. If I wasn’t still in so much pain, I would begin to take them out. While I was there, there was also 3 unhappy customers, either upset from the price (was told one price over the phone, and another once in the shop), or from the mismatched sizes of the braids/​twists, or the length was different from what they agreed on when they started. I respect all different cultures, but please note that not all «Akatas» as what came out of 1 of the ladies mouths (neither of my stylists) are only English speaking and understand various languages. Highly disappointed in this visit, as my other visits were not like this. I just hope and pray I still have some hair left once I take down my twists.

On a Tuesday 2 weeks ago I went into this shop for a full sewin. I was extremely disappointed in the results. When Betty finished my hair it was really tight. I didn’t think anything of it at the time because my head is usually sore after a sewin. I took Tylenol for a few days. On Thursday the pain was worse so I called her and asked what she could do. She offered to take down the braids on the side. I told her the top of my head still hurt. She said I should leave it and that it would get looser. On Friday the pain was ten times worse. I was in tears. I took my hair down on Friday. And my scalp was swollen and has pus and bumps. On that Monday I went to a dermatologist. He told me my scalp was infected. I had to take antibiotics, use antibiotic shampoo and scalp ointment. I called Betty at Super Braid and requested a refund for the faulty sewin. She told me she would call the manager and call me back. She didn’t call so I went to the shop. She was not there. The other employees told me to call her. I called her again and she said they don’t give refunds. I was extremely dissatisfied. This shop caused infection and damage to my scalp. My scalp is still not fully healed.

I showed them the picture of how i wanted my hair, ended up leaving when they were almost finished because i became ill, was suppose to go back the next day to finish up. When I looked in the mirror when I got home, the hairstyle was HORRIBLE. There was BIG spacing between each braid. I asked could I have HALF of my money back and they said «no, you already paid and we don’t give money back». First of all, while I was there, the supervisor was telling an employer that the person they had styled the other day that they gave them ALL of their money back because they did not like the hairstyle! But it’s sad how I asked for just HALF of my money, then they lied and said «we never give money back». I will NEVER go back here, and will advise others not to either! Wasted $ 250! If I could post pictures I would, horrible experience!

I’ve been here a few times and have had pretty good experiences, other than one time I had one person on my head most of the time, which took longer, because the other braiders did not want to help and were being choosy with who’s hair/​which styles they wanted to do. I referred my sister who went today and had an absolutely AWFUL experience, to the point that not only will she never return, neither will I. They clearly overbooked to the point where each customer only had one person on their head. NEWSFLASH… PEOPLE COME HERE BECAUSE YOU HAVE A REPUTATION OF BEING FAST AND YOU ADVERTISE IT!!! If someone wanted to sit in your chair for over 8 hours, there are PLENTY of folks out here that can braid hair by themselves for less money. My sister called to confirm that they had the type of hair she wanted and they said yes. Got there, and not only did they NOT have it, tried to convince her that the hair they use is better than what she wanted and it’s not. After she complained for being there so long, at one point, just sitting there while her braider took a lunch break, they had the audacity to tell her that she should have let them know when she got there that she was in a hurry. WHAT DIFFERENCE WOULD IT HAVE MADE WHEN YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO DOUBLE UP ON THE CUSTOMERS THAT ARE ALREADY HERE??? Excuse after excuse, never taking ownership for the fact that they’ve over booked and are providing terrible customer service.
EDIT (Updated 9÷2÷14 in response to the owner’s note):
More excuses??? Nice try. The take down only took an hour. If you’re admitting that you usually don’t assign only one braider to each client, WHY WOULD YOU OVERBOOK??? What poor customer service and lack of insight to say «its one of those circumstances beyond our control.» Wow. What a disappointing response. As the owner, it was absolutely within your control! The fact that she tried to leave before you even started on her and you stopped her from leaving, provides further proof of GREED. You could have EASILY set the expectation at that point if it was clear that she had a different time expectation. If someone is trying to leave because they see that you are clearly overbooked, WHY WOULD THEY WANT TO STAY AND HAVE ONE BRAIDER ON THEIR HEAD???
Here are some free tips…
1. Maybe you could have staggered the appointments to where you COULD have had multiple braiders on each client, instead of having everyone show up at once and not be able to get them out in a timely manner.
2. For the clients that were not there for back to school, why not inform them of how busy you would be, and then give them the option to make their appointment for another day and time?
I choose to believe that y’all are so greedy and care so little about the customer experience that you were taking walk-​ins in addition to the appointments. Good luck with your business. With this attitude, it will never grow and flourish. Wish I could give you a ZERO rating, based on that response.

Had an excellent experience the first visit, not so much today. Few points:
1. Louisiana is a neighboring state, so there is a good chance many of your patrons are from there and speak or understand French. I’m going to leave it at that.
2. Many of your patrons CAN braid hair– they go to Super Braids because they heard about how fast their hair gets finished, not because they don’t know what SHOULD be done to their hair. You can’t just tell them anything; this is what happened to me today.
With that said, 3. One side of my hair is perfect, the other side, the side the young man did is a sloppily done mess. He used little to no jam and oil to smooth my natural hair into the extension, so it was frizzy. I told him about this during the process and he told me it was the braiding hair. I showed him the difference between his side and the young lady’s side (which is perfection) and he said he’d dip it in hot water (as if is never had my hair braided before) like it would fix the fact my natural hair was sticking out of the braids. When I was there in February, it appeared he was learning how to do Senegalese Twist– $ 200 is too much money to have someone playing/​learning in my head! They had to have another young lady «fix» it telling me to pick ones I didn’t like, but it’s basically the whole left side of my hair! They called for tho owner to come, but she was busy or whatever. I picked a few of the worst ones, and they were redone but was ready to go. I had to ASK them to put mousse on my braids after they were finished to try to lay down the fly-​aways.
4. Not to be rude, but when people are paying $ 200 for a «professional» service, they don’t care if you are in a hurry to go to class, and refer to number 1. Your schedule is not their concern; either you can do the hair or not. If you are pressed for time, don’t. Yes I was very particular about my hair from the beginning (and it’s STILL a mess on one side), and I understand being a student as I am a doctoral student. I don’t have money to just give away; I also have other things to do.
I may not get even month out of this set of twists or have to pay another shop to fix then touch up their work, however I DO like this shop. I suppose the more you go, you learn who to have or not have in your head. I learned today.
The people there are nice enough and are accommodating. Just like any beauty shop it’s the luck of the draw on a day to day basis. Even now, my hair looks «fine” — not great. Overall, I’d recommend this shop, and next time I’ll request particular braiding professionals.

Update — The last time I got my hair braided at this shop, I loved the braids, but had an issue with tight edges. The owner of the shop called me to apologize for the issue and promised that if I returned I wouldn’t leave disappointed. I went today to get my hair braided again and I must say… I LOVE the finished product. The braids are neat, well done, and not painful. The edges of my hair were not pulled too tight. I was seen as soon as I entered the shop, and finished in a relatively short amount of time. This time my experience was GREAT and Super Braids has definitely regained my trust as a loyal customer. Thanks for a great hairstyle!!!

I came here after a horrible experience at Mame Diarra’s. Super braids and weaving salon were so kind and friendly. They speak to their customers. The owner always makes sure that her workers are doing it right and that you like your hair. I got kinky twist not one fell out they still looked great after 3months I went back they took my twist out with no problem washed my hair for free and put Senegalese twist back in my hair perfectly. I love this place and will go again!

I was super excited to get Senegalese twists and saw very good reviews on this salon so I decided that this was the place. I got in no problem for an appt and they got right to it as soon as I walked in the door. Had the owner not asked me to pay so she could leave before my hair was done and I not felt rushed, I’m sure it would have been a much better experience. So don’t go on a Sunday if you want them to take their time and get it right. I ended up being the only one left in the salon so I had 4 ladies working on my head at once. It was a little weird but made it go by quicker. The only thing is I had to pull apart braids in different sections of my hair because a strand from this persons braid was in another, etc. So I’m sure I’m gonna have a lot of breakage from that.
I’ve only had them in two days and I’m already seeing lots of loosening in certain sections of my hair which worries me for the long haul. Maybe my expectations were a little high but for $ 200, I feel I have that right.
I had planned on trying to keep these in for 2 months (getting them refreshed after 1 month) but we shall see what happens. I love the style and all the possibilities but I’m not real excited about my hair looking 2 weeks old after only 2 days…
