Gamze Blakey, new community director, is unprofessional, vindictive, gossipy, and has little concern for resident happiness. She causes drama where drama would never have existed. She asked me to write a positive review on Unilocal because the reviews were so bad!
They ask too much of you. Parking is especially a contentious issue because it cost nearly 100 a spot and there is nowhere else nearby to park. They will tow your legally parked vehicle without 24 hour notice on your vehicle.
Roaches, yes, this building is not immune. It came out of the sink and we saw one down on B1.
They are not your friends. They use deplorable sales tactics like «so and so has bugs.» The place sells itself, but nobody wants to stay because after a short time people begin to realize their customer service is a sham and they do not truly care about your happiness regardless of lots of outward expressions of caring. I assure you they do not. They will not help you.
People move in because it’s a new building, but leave asap because of management. We are currently filing suit against them for breach of contract with parking. Gamze Blakey’s decision to not put 24 hours notice for not having a blue tag versus a green tag, which is asinine, on the vehicle as mandated in the lease breached the contract. We are suing for damages.
There were families at the tow yard with no car seats for their children in taxis because they had no notice their legally parked car was being towed because with their busy schedules they didn’t have a chance to go through more effort in enacting the directors changes! That’s not right. Her vindictive decisions have direct impacts on working families. Professional folks do not have time to fight this and end up taking it up the ass. It was twenty400 fault for not collecting car information at move in. If they want to enact changes, they need to go through the effort. Not inconvenience residents like they did making everyone move their cars to have the garage recleaned without making a plan of where else to park. The previous manager had made a deal with the other ditmar garage. Again parking management is important, Gamze Blakey is a failure of a director. She should be fired.
They also get you in with no deposits, but they make up stuff about the carpets even after we had them professionally cleaned. Again, another example of the vindictive unprofessional behaviors of Gamze Blakey.
Their club room sucks, the tvs barely ever worked. The game is sideways. The pool is tiny and they are charging you $ 5 a day for a guest a day! They are so paranoid. They think people are sneaking in. They think people are printing out copies of hanging parking tags. They have nothing better to do but sit in their office thinking of ways to make residents’ lives harder by taking residenta actions and behaviors peraonally. It’s unprofessional, weird, and vindictive. I told corporate these issues, but apparently they condone it so I would stay away from UDR.
Management will do anything to get you in, but once you’re in they have no qualms in screwing you over. No heart. No understanding of human stresses with apartment living.
Oh more importantly, people are so unhappy with it that I’ve seen and heard of them peeing and pooing on the hallway carpets. They say oh it was dogs. No people hate that place and disrespect it because it does not respect them.
Side not, The udr people who are commenting on others’ Unilocal reviews are corporate folks. They really don’t care regardless of their words.

Leasing staff is rude and dismissive and, they lie.
Parking for guests is a nightmare!
Walls are paper thin, so no real privacy.

This is one of the best apartment communities I have lived in since moving to the DMW area. Management and staff is always willing to listen and react right away to any issues. The management group here plans something for the complex almost monthly. The get togethers are worth attending with good food and good conversations.
The maintenance here is fantastic! I have only waited more than 24 hrs for repairs once. The maintenance team made sure to explain to me why I would have to wait an extra day or two for the repair.
The complex location is great. Twenty400 is right off of I395, a 10 min walk away from Shirlington, and located near great running trails. This community is very pet friendly. It is so pet friendly, I am unsure if there are any residence who do not have any pets. I really do love this apartment complex! My only complaint is visitor parking. There is very limited parking for visitors.

I moved into Twenty400 August 2015. I’ve read some of the negative reviews, and I’m surprised. They’ve had different experiences than I’ve had. My apartment is nice, it has a granite countertop and stainless steel appliances. Of course there are jerks everywhere, but most of my fellow tenants are very friendly. The staff here is great. Very friendly and accommodating. Ive had a few mi or things break in the apartment, and maintenance was quick to repair them. The common areas are always clean. And, the rent is very reasonable. My friends who have visited have been impressed as well. I can’t say enough good things about this apartment complex.

I keep going back and forth about how to write this review as I am trapped in this place and can’t pay to break my lease. The walls, floor, and ceiling of this place are so thin that our downstairs neighbor’s surround sound vibrates our floor, our upstairs neighbor’s dogs jump up and down and have a daily dog stampede, and when people walk down the hall and talk they sound like they are in our living room. If you really don’t need any peace in your life and enjoy constant noise, this place is for you. If you like to dread coming home because you don’t know how loud it is going to be when you come home from work and
.relax, that life is for you at Twenty400. So that part is the worst bit, or the least the bit that makes me want to cry when I’m at the apartment I pay way too much for. Other things to look forward to: the regular whiff of dog shit in the halls, the garbage that litters the halls often (the last sighting was a rotten slice of tomato, thanks neighbors), and guest parking is a nightmare. It is such a hassle even if you get a visitor parking pass because your neighbors don’t give any kind of shit that you got a pass, so your visitors are screwed anyway. So why would we ever have company anyway because if they can park, the noise will make our dinner terrible. It is mostly embarrassing because it is thoroughly apparent we have been ripped off.
RESPONSE TO MANAGEMENT: I do not use my first name as my profile. I understand the fee to break the lease and how to get a parking tag for visitors. That’s not the point, however the new system where you cannot reserve more than one night at a time to accommodate weekend visitors is asinine to put it as nice as possible. I have brought up the noise issues with management and my neighbors to no avail. We have notified the front desk when a neighbor let their dog poop 3 feet from our door. I have asked people hanging out in the hallway at 1 am to go into their own apartment. I have lived in apartments most of my life and the noise level I experience at Twenty400 is not in the acceptable range.

This apartment complex seems great from the outside but after living here for over a year I must say this place is terrible. My fiancé and I have voiced several complaints that have gone unanswered by management including: witnessing a drug deal within the apartment building, rude night time concierge and packages ruined.
Don’t live here. Run. Run far away. Don’t look back.

The two stars are for the actual look of the apartments. I will say that the kitchens are nice and everything was very clean and nice looking. If that’s all you care about, go ahead and rent.
Cons:
There are birds living in some of the bathroom vents — you can hear them move around, scratching and flapping their wings. We’re pretty sure they’ve built nests. We’ve come home to dirt and feathers laying on the bathroom counter. Gross. If you request it, they’ll come and vacuum out the duct, but should that really be necessary? Also, the bathroom ends up smelly because of whatever the birds left in the duct.
The walls are thin — We can hear our neighbors music, movies and everything that goes on in the hallway. Yes, it’s an apartment, but we’ve lived in other apartments and there certainly wasn’t the same amount of noise making its way through the walls and door.
Front desk — the front desk isn’t staffed 24/​7, which means you’re screwed if you need a guest parking pass after 10 pm (and, really, it could just as well be 8 pm — we’ve come by before and the front desk person was gone hours before the office was supposed to be closed).
Parking — ask pretty much any tenant and they’ll tell you the same thing: Guest parking is horrible. The rules continue to change with little to no notification. Also, whether or not the rules are upheld depends on who’s sitting at the front desk. The guest spots aren’t assigned, so even if you pay for one (which you’ll have to if the guest is staying for more than one night), you aren’t guaranteed a spot — learned that the hard way. There’s limited street parking, and most of the cars parked in front of the building have been sitting there FOR MONTHS! Also, they’re quick at getting cars towed, so don’t try to bend the rules. It’ll cost you. If you’re really lucky, you’ll also be threatened with a possible revocation of your guest parking rights. Seriously.
HVAC — the HVAC systems are located inside the apartments and they’re so loud! Usually apartments have central cooling and heating, which eliminates the giant HVAC units. But, here you’ll have to live with the HVAC system being located inside your apartment.
While the apartment is quite nice, the frustration of having to deal with guest parking, the incredibly loud HVAC unit and the bird problem is just too much.

I moved in September 2014. I have nothing but good things to say about the apartment complex and especially the staff. The complex itself is one of the nicest and cleanest you will find in the area. The hallways are maintained everyday and the gym and comman areas are the same way.
Any time I have had an issue with some thing in my apartment going wrong it is fixed within 24hrs. The maintenance crew is on point.
As for the staff at the front. Well they are all amazing and happy to assist in whatever you need. They always say Hi and ask how my day is going. They helped me move in and find the right apartment that fits my needs.
I understand that in the past the place had bad reviews. Well it’s all changed and I would highly recommend renting an apartment from Twenty400.

I personally don’t care for the leasing office staff. It seems as though they’re nice up until you move in.

Sitting here in my apartment, listening to every single song my neighbor has been playing so far. Can the walls be any more thin? This is driving me insane.
Also, I would trust the reviews with the low ratings. The ones with the 4 stars and incredibly long and detailed compliments are probably fake.
When the new management came in, I would say things probably got worse– I have talked to plenty of people on the elevator and my neighbors who have complained about this new management and that they cannot wait for their lease to end. As for the bad reviews being from prior to new management– the dates don’t match up. The new management came in before september 2014– Just my two cents.

Trust me, not worth it. Don’t sign your life away. These people have no hearts, they just want your money.

I’m writing to let others know that since new management has moved-​in things and life here at Twenty 400 apartments has gotten so much better. The garage is better lite and is getting a new fresh and cleaner look.

Hi Everyone!
I have been here a few months and this place is great! I wanted to leave DC to reduce my rent and wasn’t expecting to get a luxury apartment for ½ what I paid for my rat trap there, and only 10 minutes from 14^th street!
I read the reviews here and they aren’t really fair. They say to keep a tag in your car and I do; haven’t been towed yet. And as great as the staff has been, there is no way to expect them to hold every residents hand and lead them to their own parking spot. Also, the new manager is doing a garage audit to stop this, so kudos to her.
I also saw the dog mess in the garage pictures. That is a disgusting, lazy neighbor. How can you you blame the staff? I haven’t seen it yet so if it happens as often as these people say, it’s a testament to management’s speedy reaction time.
Pool, kids? Seriously? Find a pool that kids aren’t attracted to. This isn’t a retirement community and there aren’t that many kids compared to the rest of us.
All in all, I love this place and I don’t plan on leaving any time soon! If you are so needy that you cannot stand apartment living, buy a house!

I have been here a while and keep meaning to post a review, but also keep forgetting! Here goes…
I am pretty simple, I don’t need much, but this place exceeds. My apartment is amazing and for what I am getting I pay next to nothing! I have lived all over DC, Arlington, and the rest of the east coast and what you pay vs what you get is incredible here.
I can’t say I agree with some of the other reviews here (though some of these things likely happened, they have everywhere I’ve ever rented as well. The poop and kids type stuff is pretty exaggerated. I’ve been here and happily renewed and it has been an issue maybe twice), the office staff has always been accommodating and the new management has been very responsive and informative (anything going on in the building seems to be addressed to us, so communication is a plus). I haven’t had any major damage or maintenance issues and the small ones I have had have been fixed.
Again, I am easy going. I just pay my rent on time and enjoy my surroundings. If you want a great home at a very good price and close to almost everything, you should check this place out!

I can’t even begin to say what a terrible experience my boyfriend and I have had at Twenty400!!! We’ve lived here for about a month now and have dealt with the worse customer service. The leasing office and director are none responsive, brush things off, ignore, etc. We’ve had issues (multiple times) with garage remote, keys, and PARKING! We are paying to park, per vehicle and multiple times have had several cars in my spot. How does a leasing office not keep record of who has what parking spots. It’s not rock science!!! We’ve had to switch parking minimum 3 times, park in visitor, other people spots, etc. In addition, have gotten towed twice because of us not parking in our «assigned spots» yet they assigned other tenants in. Not having our OWN dedicated spot and being towed more than once, is absolutely ridiculous.
I highly recommend staying far away from this apartment complex. They are extremely unhelpful and poor quality of service!!! Unacceptable.

This community is amazing! I would say for the area, you truly get the best bang for your buck! Parking compared to other places is reasonable. The apartments are very large and offer the nicest finishes. My walk-​in closet is the size of a bedroom practically!
The staff is very friendly and always attentive, including the new property manager. Very happy with the place!

its so very true the company was Alexan 24 and now it is Twenty 400. I moved in when it was Alexan 24 I was maybe the first residence that had moved in in 2010 when I moved in here it was very nice loved the place. since then I have not like the place at all there is always dog poop and pee on the hallway the hallway carpets are stain and the elevator is always a mess coffee stain and dog pee its just so disgusting. Also the kids that over that the game room so very true never supervised at all. When it come to the swimming pool OMG there are kids there with out there parents this place its not friendly the leasing office are so stuck up they rush you when your talking to them its just not the place seriously you get paid to listen to the residence really also I would like to point out they need to enforce the rule really they do. I cant wait to move out I am counting the days too. Alot of residence have moved out of here thats why there always putting post on the elevator that you get 500 dollar to get a residence in here there very desperate to get busy here Also I forgot the Club room the computer are always messed up the printer never works to this day there is no printer for about 1 year and 5 months already the coffee is never stock and sugar that they have is never stock either it just not a place to live anymore and know they charge for guest to use the pool really?
But again you guys are desperate to get money because a lot of people are moving out. Oh yes one thing to point out… the door in the garage was broke for like 4 days or so they took forever to fix it A/​C in my apartment took forever to fix it. we had to sleep in a guest suit apartment which was not what I want I want to stay in my home. next time I will post the picture of all the dogs pee and crap

Went to visit a friend the other day and had to step over dog urine in the parking garage to enter the building. Disgusting!

This property is a disappointment. The reviews by Tom, Jackie & Sally have it right! The staff is not responsive, kind or responsible. The building is run-​down & not properly cared for. In a rental community, your experience is largely due to «how» the property is maintained and managed. The only times I’ve seen staff walking or monitoring the hallways, public spaces, etc. is when touring prospective residents. As a result, outages of light bulbs is a severe and consistent problem. This persists in areas of the garage and it is actually a safety concern. You can witness the outages in stairwells, elevators and hallways. While replacement of bulbs is an easy solution, it is reflective of the lack of care. The lack of care is also seen in the large amounts of litter within the garage, thrown between cars and discarded in the hallways. On average, solicitors drop-​off 5 – 6 pieces of literature per apartment unit a week (literally at your doorsteps when you get home) and inevitably this lands throughout the hallways. I am unsure how access is given and granted to the building. This is a «secure» building that requires fob access; but yet dozens of strangers enter the properly to flyer? Not sure how this continues to happen. But, let me tell you more about what often happens. The building promotes complimentary coffee and tea. I have visited the club room more than six times over the past two months and no coffee. I haven’t seen coffee in months. In addition, I haven’t seen sanitary wipes for the workout room. And months ago, disposable cups disappeared from the water cooler (also in the workout room). What hasn’t disappeared are the filthy floors (yes, someone mops every morning at 8 AM, but after the first round of dog walks, etc. you can imagine the aftermath-​did I mention I’ve only seen ONE person clean the entire building). Recently, they started vacuuming the hallways (this is an improvement) – but look around, check out the walls – YES, you’ll find areas that need patching & paint (they’ve been that way for years). What has also been the same is the poor customer service. After four years, I’m leaving a fantastic location (it is an amazing location) – because I can no longer stomach the staff. As a tenured resident, I have seen the rise & fall of this complex. And, it fell fast & furiously. The building has not always been owned by UDR. But, UDR has struggled mainly because of the leadership (or lack there of). I can’t recall a single Property Manager that has been onsite longer than one year. Compliant after compliant rolls in to Corporate – then someone is pushed out only for yet another disappointment. The location is sweet, but everything else is sour. For instance, they require parking passes, but don’t look for one after 11 PM or on Sunday evenings (office is closed) – what is the plan for a closed office? None. Park on the street & walk to your luxury apartment. If you forgot your keys, don’t worry the exterior door on the front and leading from the garage are rarely locked – neither is the garage door (the neighbors from the apartment next door already know this little secret – you’ll see them walk up & out of the garage). I’ll end with the best news, once you move into your luxury apartment, you will never have friends over; there will never be available visitor parking.

Gosh, is it possible to give NO STARS? I’m stuck in the crappy apartment because it’s a $ 3500 lease cancellation fee. Of course, I could sublet it to someone else but there’s no one that I dislike enough in the world to trap in this hell hole.
I’ll let you know, that I did get contact from then property manager after my last review. Of course, lots of words and little action. She couldn’t even be bothered to get the carpet fixed unless I took the time to go online and submit a work order.
Now, they’ve magically had a new water meter put in and everyone’s water bills have increased between 25% to as much as 150% of what they were previously. Don’t ask for clarification though — they’ll let you know that the answers are in your lease. While they’ll TELL YOU that it’s sub metered, the fact is it’s really allocated. SUPPOSEDLY, they deduct some amount for common area utility usage. Somehow no one can tell you though what this is — you’re supposed to just trust them. Yes, that’s right, trust the same people who bill you monthly for pest service that you don’t actually receive unless you log on and make a work order request. Of course we trust you!
I quite simply can’t say it loud enough — run the other way. Don’t waste your time here. You’d be better off camping in the woods than renting an apartment here.
