Established in 1979.

We started out as a knife sharpening business in San Francisco and developed that business into a retail cutlery store. We were very successful and decided that we wanted to do the same type of business in the mountains, where we want to ultimately retire. So, The Rusty Knife came to fruition. Here we are. Precision knife sharpening and cutlery sales in the heart of Arnold, California. Since the opening of the shop, we have included firearms and ammunition. That part of the business has been amazing. A great add on for the local community.

The Rusty knife owner Emile I. Mogannam is the former owner/​founder of Razor Sharp Cutlery in San Francisco which was sold in 2001. Emile has worked hard at perfecting the art of sharpening knives and scissors. He has sharpened thousands of knives since for chefs, home cooks, and even Safeway store butchers. He spent a few seasons offering his sharpening services in the William Sonoma catalog, among sharpening for many other big clients.

When you take your knives to The Rusty Knife, you can be sure you’re taking your knives to someone with many years of experience. Emile has been around many years before any other sharpener on the West coast, and now he is the first and only cutlery shop that offers sharpening service in this Calaveras County area.

Emile has added firearms and ammunition at The Rusty Knife, and that part of the business has been a great add on.
