Handcrafted Skin on Frame Kayaks. We are the Mountain State’s main source for skin on frame kayaks and rentals based in the Denver Colorado area. We teach and hold workshops on how to build your own Skin on Frame Kayak. These are wooden kayaks with a skin stretched around the wooden structure making it strong and water tight. The design comes from the Inuits of the northern country and their greenland and baidarka kayaks. They are ultralight and ultrafast and gliding through the water on one of these is an exhilarating experience.

History

Established in 2005.

We have traveled around many states teaching workshops on how to build Skin on Frame Kayaks and have decided settled home in Colorado.

From the first time that we laid eyes on handcrafted boats a desire sparked to create them ourselves. After many boats and many different teachers we wanted to share our passion for boat building with all that are willing to listen, thus the creation of Rivers and Coasts.

Along with teaching kayak building we also taught many survival and traditional skill classes. That arm of the business grew as well until we split into two: Rivers and Coasts Kayaks and Sarqit Outdoor Living School. The split allowed us to focus on our passion of skin on frame kayak building and the joy of paddling these excellent water crafts.

Drover, as he goes by, was a tinkerer from the start. Always taking things apart and building new creations with the parts. Legos were top on the list of favorite toys. As he grew up his focus turned to the outdoors and the adventures that are found within its realm. He never had much to spend on gear so he created his own. That led him towards the field of survival and primitive skills which taught the philosophy of «The more you know, the less you need». Over the years Drover began to put together the realization that if He was outside, teaching, and creating something he was a happy man. This spawned the formation of Rivers and Coasts Kayaks and Sarqit Outdoor Living School.
