Eating Asheville Tours

Kim and Hank were our Tour guides for the Western Asheville food tour. They were very knowledgable about the area! We loved all the restaurants. Asheville has so much to offer and this is such a great way to experience a variety of food and drinks.

Just a perfect way to learn your way around the Asheville food scene. Perfect tour. Loved everything about it. Great food, good people. We will do this again very soon!

Had a great time on the West Asheville tour, I’d suggest arriving early to take advantage of the Pour House! Food was great at all the stops, just enough time at each place and I can’t wait to get back and try another tour and eat at some of the great restaurants we sampled. We did have some young children on the tour that were rather rowdy and the parents were not controlling them so if I have a suggestion it would be an age limit of 10+ on the tour??? Next time I will definitely ask. Other than that (which the tour group had no control over) it was great.

Absolutely amazing tour! Our tour guide, Hank, was fantastic and personable. All of the food and drink pairings were great, and I plan on doing this again! My group had a great time, so this is definitely a recommended activity for anyone visiting Asheville or an Asheville resident just looking for a great way to explore downtown!

My hubby and I took the classic tour and we had a blast! Stephen was such a great tour guide and I liked the way he interacted with each and every person throughout the tour making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. Loved learning about the history of Asheville as we walked along between restaurants. In my opinion we were served plenty of alcoholic beverages, but would have like a bit more food. What food we got was incredibly delicious and the best of the best, but samples were quite small so be sure not to go hungry or expecting alot of food. Would def recommend the tour to others.

We couldn’t do the high roller one due to our schedule but the classic tour was good, too. Restaurants are great but the best part was the friendly and informative guide, Hank, and the people you meet on the tour. We had the loveliest time mingling, eating, and walking downtown Asheville.

Food tours are the best way to learn about the food scene of a new city. We did the classic tour. Hank was our guide and he did a great job with telling us about Asheville food scene and history. We stopped at 7 spots including a gourmet chip company and chocolate from French Broad lounge. There was beverages at 5 of the stops. If you haven’t been on a food tour before, I wouldn’t eat anything heavy before going on a food tour. I highly recommend this food tour.

The guide was excellent. The food at Zambra was amazing with Sangria. Other stops needed more in line with them. Overall great experience.

I really enjoyed this experience but would have liked it better had they served beers from «primarily» Asheville breweries. Instead, we received a Sierra Nevada beer and another non-​native Asheville beer during the 2.5 hour tour. The tour guide indicated that Asheville has more microbreweries per capita than anywhere in the US. Why then, didn’t we get to try beers from Asheville breweries?
Visiting 7 establishments in 2.5 hours was excellent. The variety of food was great. I also enjoyed the history the tour guides provided. All but one establishment featured a drink to accompany the food. Our tour started at the Bier Garden and included highlights such as Mojo, Modesto, Bomba. We also stopped at an Ethiopian restaurant.

This tour is phenomenal! Knowing that Asheville is a foodie’s paradise, the first thing I booked was a food tour for our recent trip. I looked at the flexibility as well as the other comments and ratings here on Unilocal and they were spot on. We had an intimate group of 4 and Zoe was our tour guide. She was awesome — knowledgeable, fun and with a passion for food and the town of Asheville. We stopped at 7 different restaurants and ever dish was superb. We left stuffed and happy. Zoe also gave great dinner and brunch recommendations which we ate at each day we were in Asheville. If you come to Asheville, do this tour. You won’t regret it.

True confession, this activity was not my idea and one that I only reluctantly agreed to join. My concern was that it might not be the best idea to pay a premium to visit restaurants in the middle of prep that were likely trying to boost reservations with easy one-​off, one-​bite plates.
Yet again I was wrong and in the process managed to again prove that my wife is far smarter than I, and it is always a wise decision to just nod and agree. In truth, I am putting it nicely as my takeaway is more succinctly summarized as follows: «Holy hell, I could not have been more wrong.»
From our initial introduction to our guide Stephen at Battery Park Book Exchange and throughout the next 2.5 hours, every minute was enjoyed. Our personal favorite was Cuchina 24 (where we are fired-​up to eat tomorrow night), but in truth there was not a stop that we did not enjoy.
The constant throughout was Stephen. His short and amusing anecdotes, coupled with his ridiculous knowledge of wine (yes, he is a sommelier) and food (yes, he is a former restaurant owner and head chef) made for many truly interesting conversations.
Put simply, after 150 minutes we walked away from our afternoon wishing that that there were another 150 minutes to look forward to enjoying.

These guys are top-​notch. The whole online booking process was seamless, and once arriving, our tour guide, Hank, proved to be an absolute rockstar. He was extremely knowledgable about all the food and drinks we were served on The High Roller Tour, and he had a very friendly and comfortable rapport with everybody at each of the seven restaurants that we visited. This was great to see, because I know that Asheville is a small town, so they obviously have a very good relationship with the venues in town. Hank was not only knowledgable, but he was funny and made sure everybody was comfortable, happy, and 100% satisfied.
The whole experience was seamless from beginning to end, and they brought us to a veritable selection of Asheville’s best restaurants. We ate everything from grilled peppers to black bean falafel to sheep’s cheese arepas to pork spring rolls, and we drank everything from sparkling wine to regular wine to sangria to beer. Of course, the tour HAD to end with chocolate (and there may have been both ice cream AND truffles involved…).
This might be the best thing I’ve done here in Asheville. Don’t miss this food tour!

It is a must do. We went to 7 places and had things I would not expect to have in Asheville or a food tour. I think that’s what made it so good. Zoe was our guide and was very pleasant. She doesn’t go on and on like some food tour guides do. Was the right amount of info with the great things to sample. This is our fourth food tour and it was great.

I was looking for a food tour to experience Asheville for a group of 4 girls on our day off from a 10 day program we are taking at Furman in SC. We are all from other states. We loved the idea of a walking tour and an opportunity to try places we would have never discovered on our own. Our guide, Hank, and the restaurant owners/​chefs were so gracious! Most of them greeted us and gave us the tour and history of their establishment. We were taken to up and coming, creative and unusual fabulous places! We loved every establishment and enjoyed the diverse fare and drink! We even stopped at an unexpected but fun place, Bee Charmer, who sells and gave us tastings of their many quality honey products! They have cute bee/​honey related gifts in their shop as well. My favorite was Pours… A self service beer tasting pub with one of the largest beer on tap selections I’ve seen! Amazing, fun, and tasty! We also loved Isis, an old movie theatre remodeled into a live music and dinner venue! Family owned business with lots of pride and care for the details!
Our guide was a local resident who knew a ton about the area. He was very hospitable and did everything he could to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend this tour in West Asheville.

This was an awesome tour and a great way to try some different restaurants downtown while learning about the history of the city. Our guide was Zoe who was very accommodating to all the guests. Highly recommend doing this tour!

What a treat!!!
A Yummy food tour provided by Eating Asheville Tours with our excellent and knowledgeable host Hank. This man new his history about the city and the restaurants we were visiting. Don’t get me started on the trivia he threw at us for extra surprises at EACH place we visited…
First Stop: Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne Bar: Smoked Trout dip and pimento cheese on toast rounds paired with Simonet Blanc du Blancs. This was paired with a white wine. I am not a wine drinker but I could have had a couple of these it was that good!
Second stop: Cucina 24: charred local broccoli with a white anchovy vinaigrette — This small taste is going to have me coming back to try their main course meals. This was the first time I had been to this establishment and honestly one of the best hidden gems I think in AVL.
Third stop: The Table: Hangar Steak Tartar freshly ground mixed with house made chili. First time I have had steak tartar not bad but not something I would order on a regular basis but glad I got to taste. The Chardonnay was a little dry for my taste. This is arguably one of the best decorated restaurants we visited on this tour love the local art décor!!!
Fourth Stop: Zambra: Pomegranate braised pork spring roll with a mango gastrique w/​sangria — this appy was in the top two of all dishes we had for the day. I can’t wait to go eat at this establishment. It will definitely be on my to visit list within the next couple of weeks. The sangria was DELICIOUS I believe I could have drank a gallon of this but I had other stops to make so maybe next time!!!
Fifth Stop: Gourmet Chip Company — Parisian house made chips with Rosemary, Thyme, Goat Cheese and white truffle spritz. How did I not know of this place??? Here is a thought… if you are looking for a «local» gift idea for friends or family this would be a great choice. They will/​can ship any of their local made chips to just about anywhere or provide you with the sealed packaging for shipping. EVERYTHING is made in house. Love this place!!! It doesn’t get more local than this. The owner was AWESOME!!!
Sixth Stop: Strada Italiano: giant grilled ravioli packed with spinach and cheese. I mean large!!! This is another place I am going to have to stop by again for dinner. This dish alone is worth coming back for!!!
Last Stop: Chocolate Gems: Blood Orange Sorbetto, Chocolate Gelato and a dark chocolate Truffle — This was soooo good I took family back less than a week after this tour! Do yourself a favor and stop by for a local treat.
If you’re in AVL do yourself a favor and take the tour with Hank! Please be sure to tip your tour guides!!!

This tour is a great way to learn about Asheville and get a feel of the town. We had 8 different stops and had 6 drinks on our high roller tour. I went with my husband and friends. The tour had about 19 people in it. We had a good but fast pace through the neighborhood and restaurants. I feel like we walked maybe a couple miles total, but definitely not more than that.
I love how this tour supports local foods and restaurants. I love how you get a little bit of history and trivia at each stop. I thought most of the drinks we got were nearly full size besides two! Many of the drinks were local and home made (such as the simple syrups). Hank was our tour guide and he did a great job accommodating and entertaining the whole group!
When walking through the town you can see different places that you would like to visit later. Hank is very knowledgable about Asheville so you can ask more targeted questions about what places you could visit when in town.
My favorite restaurant was the last one at «nightbell.» It had a certain flair and uniqueness in it’s food, restaurant décor, and staff. Its food is something of a science and an art. «Strada» was also another place I’d love to revisit. (I bought some chocolate covered bacon there). All restaurants have a history to it and many of the exec chefs/​owners were there to great you.

Outstanding guided tour of downtown Asheville best eateries. We hit 7 stops with a dozen other tour participants, getting to chat with most. We met some great chefs, ate tasty small plates and had beverages at each place. As the only locals on the tour, we had been to only two of the restaurants before, so it was a great introduction for later returns. Fav stops: Table and Cucina24.
Our guide Stephen was very knowledgable and fun. He’s worked in the food/​wine biz for years and is friends with all the chefs; just the guy you want taking you around! Our tour was a gift from my son; what a great way to gift someone you love!

My sister and I did this as a birthday celebration and it was a great way to go. Steve was a fabulous guide in all ways. The beginning at the Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne Bar was an amazing find. Cucina 24, Imperial Life at Table, Strada and Zambra’s were all a treat. But, the finale at Nightbell could not be beat. From the crafted cocktail and reimagined deviled egg to the apple pie truffle and ambience of the place, it was just exquisite. Fun, yummy, entertaining and well paced — the High Roller is a great experience.

My husband and I took the Eating Asheville High Roller tour during our Labor Day Weekend vacation and were so happy we did! We are from NYC originally and are very used to eating exceptionally good food. This tour did not disappoint.
We started the tour at the Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne Bar located in the Grove Arcade. We enjoyed crostini and champagne, which is definitely a nice way to begin. Then, we ventured out to seven local restaurants for fabulous small plates. The highlights for us were Chestnut, Cucina 24 and Zambra. We had dinner at 3 of the restaurants during out stay and received discounts from the tour. Highly recommended for foodies or anyone wanting a laid back experience with food and wine. Can’t wait to go back the next time we are in Asheville!
