Ordered a combination plate with burrito, enchilada and taco. Bland and mediocre at best. This is the second time I dined here. Didn’t think it was at all tasty the first time, but decided to give it another try because the lot is always full at lunch time. Salsa is non-descript and the chips just ordinary. Go to Papa’s & Beer for Mexican when in Asheville — much, much better and authentic.

Are you a customer looking for some average Mexican food and terrible service? Well look no further than the La Carreta on Merrimon Ave. We recently had a large party of people there and their service was subpar and the food was all over cooked. The waiters could not seem to keep our water glasses filled. The waiters also seemed like they hated to be there. With all of the other Mexican restaurants in the Asheville area to try out, I would not recommend this Mexican restaurant to a family member or a friend.

I had the same problem as others, the language barrier. The food was too salty and the chicken undercooked, talked to a female manager that was on shift to take it off the ticket, she probably didn’t even understand me(she doesn’t speak English) cause they didn’t take it off the check and I paid for something that I didn’t even eat. The server offered to change it but I was grossed out by the taste of undercooked chicken in my mouth. Save your money and go to Papa’s and Beer!

The worst customer service that I have ever experienced in a restaurant!!! I was picking a «to go» order for my workers, but ran into a minor issue. I was very nice and was trying to work with them, but the female shift manager was extremely rude and didn’t even speak English. She was talking to one of the hostesses, who was translating into English. She had obviously profiled me as poor/not important person, since I was wearing an older tshirt. Really awful behaviour, considering the fact that I was somewhat regular… And the food is really not that great — stale with a weird after taste. Papa’s and Beer is light years ahead of this dump hole.

I love this place, the salsa is awesome the chips are great all the produce is fresh. I give it five stars because it is the best of what it is, fast cheap Mexican. You sit down order and eat in 20 minutes, and are rolling out by the end. I recommend it if you enjoy yummy greasy food as I do.

Awesome chips and salsa to start. Two burritos deluxe came out fast, almost too fast. I was still enjoying chips and my margarita. The price is right for the portion size. The location is perfect for me, i just hope this business stays as it has changed many times.

Tried it again at new location. I actually put salt on my food. Who has to put salt on Mexican food? Two baskets of burned chips. Watery refried beans. Service was poor. There are excellent cooks in Asheville. This chain repels them for some reason Where are the owners of Guadalajara restaurant and the cooks/staff from there, Won’t ever go back to this restaurant chain.

Really good Mexican restaurant! Super Cheap! They bring out warm chips which are so good and they have a free salsa bar that you can help yourself to! My favorite was the avocado salsa. Weird green color, but looks can be quite deceiving! Ha ha. Everyday they have drink specials mixed drinks and beer included! Dos equites amber I like to compare it to a red oak mmm!!! Comes with a lime! Split a quesadilla and a meal with a friend and I’m taking a lot home! Def got full on the chips. They have air conditioning which feels so good unlike most places and it’s pretty inside. Just wish they had outdoor seating. All in all I think this place should have higher stars. Is a little bit to salty tho, but everyone is entitled to there own opinion!

We ate there a few weeks ago. Underwhelmed by their food, which is very disappointing as we hoped for a fantastic local place to eat. Sides were lukewarm at best. Lots of jalapenos in the Pico D Gallo which was quite a shock considering I wasn’t expecting them. We are going to Pappas and beer tonight.

Asi asi Many places in this location have failed. I doubt La Carreta will. It had a strong old customer base. It was uprooted by the Asheville Trader Joes… moved north to Weaverville… and is back in North Asheville. They are survivors. The food is ok. There is nothing really wrong here but serviceable, gringo-ized Mexican. Lots of food for a value. My wife said… I wonder if they have a secret menu… you know… what they really want to serve. I serve there is a torta… I’ll try that next time. Street tacos al pastor??? Menudo? Sopes? I had an enormous special dinner with beef enchiladas(the sauce is a lil sweet… eh), a big bean tostada, beef taco, and a not so spicy chili relleno. Again…it’s good… but not remarkable. Wife had a very good spinach enchilada paired with… uhhhh…a mashed potato enchilada that was not so good at all. Paired with a cheese mushroom quesadilla. Not bad. There are big beers. Mexican beers not craft… and it’s a nice big space. Patio would be fantastic and liven it. Last, scared to death to try the margarita… I’m sure it will be a typical American sweet fest
