Would not recommend this place as they came up with every excuse not to bake our rehearsal dinner cake for our same sex wedding. When all excuses were answered they did not respond. We highly recommend Callie’s Confections for all your cake needs!!!

We ordered a groom’s cake from the Bake Shoppe. After stating that we did not want a white cake or a chocolate cake, because that’s what would be served at the wedding the next day, Heidi suggested a white cake with chocolate filling. That seemed different enough and we agreed on the cake, the decoration, and a pick up time. I called a few days before to reconfirm. When we picked the cake up, it had writing on it that was not appropriate for a groom’s cake. The girl who made the mistake said it would look better if there was some lettering in place of the lettering she had to remove. I wrote down exactly what I wanted and it was still wrong. At that point, I was out of time, so we took the cake and ran it to the restaurant for the rehearsal. I asked the restaurant staff to place the cake where it would not be the central focus, and to cut it in advance, so the mistakes wouldn’t be so evident. Once cut, we discovered the cake was not filled at all. We got neither the cake we specifically ordered nor the decoration we specifically ordered. I emailed Heidi to let her know, and her response was that we got cake, we got frosting, so she was willing to refund the COSTOFTHEFILLING! Had she offered a refund for the cost of the cake, I would not have accepted her money. I know how hard it is to run a small business. But it would have shown me that Heidi cared about messing the whole thing up, and wanted to make things right. To offer the cost of the filling was insulting. Cakes are not hard to come by in Asheville. Not doing business with the Bake Shoppe won’t be a hardship.

I used The Bake Shoppe for my wedding cake. I had a very unusual request concerning the color of the icing, and went all over town looking for a bakery to accommodate it(okay, so I wanted a three-tiered tie-dyed cake, with two different colors swirled together on each level, and had no idea it was something so difficult to produce). I carried a picture of something similar that I had found on the internet, and a baker in one shop finally told me, «I don’t know of anyone in town talented enough to do that… except for The Bake Shoppe, of course». So I went to there, and my request was honored without so much as second glance at the picture. The price was normal for a wedding cake(they all cost an arm and a leg), but fair because many other places in town were much more expensive.
