great pastries! Just had lunch there for the first time; the sandwich and quesadilla were perfect, as was the coffee. Friendly staff.

This place is great, especially their cakes. They make everything from scratch and it’s rare to find this kind of quality where I live. I was visiting family in Maryland last week and I went to pick up a cake with my cousin for my aunt’s Birthday. We got a chocolate mango mousse and it was one of the best cakes I’ve ever had.
My family goes there often and every time I visit them I try to stop by. I haven’t tried everything but the key lime pie and fruit tarts are my favorite cold pastries.
Overall the staff is very attentive/​kind and everything has tasted amazing.

Enjoyed an excellent bacon, egg, and cheese croissant this morning at Passion Bakery. It was delicious! Looking forward to trying other items here.

Some of the best tasting mousse cakes ever. Then you have their pastries and ethnic coffee companion eats and it is reason enough to court a sugar high. Pure passion bliss!

We ordered a Frozen cake for my daughters 5^th birthday and we were so impressed! The cake was DELISH and looked amazing! Our friends and family were so impressed. The service was great. This was our first time using this bakery and we would definitely go back again!

Passion Bakery Café is a small little bakery found in the Ashton and Onley neighborhoods — it is family-​run and has 2 generations of bakers, which I thought was pretty nice. The bakery offers pastries (cakes (carrot cake, fruit cake, strawberry chocolate mousse, tres leches, etc.), cookies, danishes, scones, eclairs, etc.), custom-​made cakes, breakfast and lunch items, and fresh-​baked bread (challah, jalapeño and cheese, sourdough, whole wheat, walnut raisin, tomato rosemary, etc.). I tried their Strawberry and Cheese Danish, an Almond Danish, a Strawberry cheesecake (I loved the large fresh strawberry halves that were topped that were not overly sweet), and a Tres Leches cake (I actually really enjoyed this, as it was slightly spongy, a little wet (in a good way), and had a subtle hint of the cinnamon). I was really surprised at the price, as it was very competitive compared to other bakeries I’ve been to! The staff here were very friendly and patient in putting together the orders, and there were some seating within/​outside to enjoy your treat (s). There is a lot adjacent to the semi-​plaza, but just be aware that some cars do not park in their respective spots!!!

We hired passion bakery to recreate our wedding cake. They offered to work off of a picture, but I didn’t have one handy, so I just told them it was your basic white wedding cake decorated with roses. They used fresh roses from the florist next door, and the cake itself was better quality than our actual wedding cake! Chocolate cake with cannoli filling and whipped cream frosting. The cake was light and moist, the whipped cream was fresh, and they were generous with the cannoli filling between layers. It was dynamite.

The good:
Great selection of cookies and pastries. Friendly staff. I had a turkey sandwich for lunch and it was quite tasty.
The bad:
Counter staff had no idea how to use the espresso machine. Coffee was priced at market, but was subpar. No milk available at coffee prep station, just non-​dairy creamer. Yuck. What I was told was a scone seemed like more of a really dry biscuit with chocolate chips.
The verdict:
I will be back to give it another shot. The staff was nice and there are many other things in the case to be tried. I’ll just skip the scones and probably stop for coffee someplace else first.

I’m used to korean bakeries like shilla and bon appetit (in ellicott city), but ellicott city is so far away from home. I never have the time to go to shilla in rockville, either. On my way to and from church, I would drive by this place every week. I just never had the chance to stop by until this week.
I picked up the mango mousse cake on Monday for my moms birthday and it was really good, especially since it wasn’t too sweet like some cakes from other bakeries. My mom dislikes cakes that are too sweet (she complains that even some korean bakery cakes are too sweet) but she said the mango mousse was good. My parents and I were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the cake and finished it all in one sitting
Saturday, my friends and I came for a book club discussion at 10 am. This place was surprisingly BUSY. We each tried a breakfast item: blt sandwich, everything bagel (eggs, tomato, lettuce, cheese, no bacon) and the breakfast croissant (eggs, tomato, lettuce, cheese). We also purchased cups of coffee and a slice of Napoleon pastry. The food came out relatively quickly and the three of us enjoyed our sandwiches. I especially liked the blt. The custard of the Napoleon wasn’t very sweet, but the top chocolate later countered it so there was a good balance.
A couple of things to keep in mind:
Parking is limited. The space is very small and I’m not sure if it’s legal to park in the lot across the street.
Not sure about other days, but due to a yoga studio right next to the bakery, there were waves of people coming in after their yoga class for a snack.
It seems best to order your pastries/​food/​cakes to go, because there aren’t very many seats inside. They do have outdoor seating if you are brave enough to endure the 19 degree weather we’re having lately.
Bring cash!!! They only accept credit card if your purchase is $ 5+
Overall, I’m really satisfied for the opportunity to finally try this place out. I love local places that aren’t part of a chain, and can’t wait to try the other pastries from this place.

I hired Passion Bakery Café to take care of the desserts at my wedding in Sandy Spring MD last August (near Olney).
Passion Bakery Café was a huge blessing, because the person who was supposed to do my wedding cupcakes closed her business two months ahead of my wedding. It was really hard to find anyone who did gluten-​free cupcakes and other desserts, especially short notice, until I noticed this bakery just a minute’s drive from my venue!
They had a lot of options and ended up making things especially for me and my wedding. They made me gluten-​free cupcakes especially for my wedding (I never wanted a cake), along with chocolate-​covered strawberries and various naturally gluten-​free macaroons. They were very accommodating and everything was delivered on time and looked and tasted amazing! The desserts were a hit at my wedding, especially because everyone got to pick a couple desserts that they liked.
I would highly recommend this bakery for small to large orders for any sort of gathering or party. Also, the price was very affordable and they gave me a good discount for my big order.

Excellent chocolate mousse cake; shaved chocolate encases the outside of the cake. A small cake (6 inches) was just over $ 20.
Visited Passion Bakery for just that — bakery items. Wanted a cake and that’s what they had. By quarter to 5 on a Saturday afternoon they had a fair share of cakes left in their display (no idea if they keep more in the back), and a small amount of what I would call Italian cookies. The cookies didn’t look too pleasing to the eye, no idea if they tasted good.
If your GPS wasn’t helpful such as mine: The location of the Bakery is near a small commerce area in Ashton /​Olney with businesses on both sides of the road.

I had wanted to buy an éclair, but they didn’t look very good, so instead I bought a napoleon and a chocolate croissant. The napoleon was pretty good, but the chocolate croissant was absolutely terrible, bread-​y and not flaky or buttery at all, and the chocolate was unevenly distributed on the inside (which is normally the case, to be fair) and not especially taste.
I could make a better chocolate croissant at home… without using a croissant.

This place is terrific, though the service could be more genial. Really beautiful cakes, but we actually just stumbled in here randomly while passing by and decided we needed some cookies! The heart-​shaped sugar cookies were very yummy, much better than the grocery store sugar cookie experience I was anticipating. The lemon linzer cookies are very good, as were the little ones with pockets of raspberry in them. The raisin almond cookie was to die for! The chocolate chip was good, but a little too crumbly and fluffy for me. The peanut butter was the one only that was a little disappointing, tasted a bit burnt. Also a let down was the cranberry muffin — the top was good, but once I’d eaten that I was left with just a boring cake bottom — there were ZERO cranberries beyond the top of the muffin.

Beautiful baked goods! Very inexpensive for the quality. And BIG sandwiches only $ 4 – 5. For the price of a sandwich anywhere else, I got a beautiful dessert too! Breakfast and lunch sandwiches!

I’m gonna give them 3-​stars only b/​c of my sister who happens to love this place. Honestly, I feel she got ripped off.
She’d ordered me a custom 6″ Red Velvet Cheesecake for my birthday which had about a ¼″ inch think crust of red velvet… and that was the ONLY red velvet in the whole damn cake! The rest was (obviously)cheesecake w/​red food coloring. I couldn’t even taste the red velvet «crust» which gives you an idea of how small/​thin the crust was. I was envisioning at least some red velvet layers in between the cheesecake, perhaps? *Let me know if I’m asking too much* The good part is she only paid $ 20, which wasn’t too bad, just not what we’d expected. Next time, I’ll tell her to take me to the Cheesecake Factory where I know we’ll get our money’s worth of cake AND cheesecake.
Outside of that, the service is excellent, and the product wasn’t bad.

I like places where I can just hang out with a cup of good coffee, perhaps a pastry, and a good book. Here, the pastry was OK, as was the coffee. They only had Hazelnut and French Vanilla creamer, though, and when I asked for regular, they said they don’t have any. Huh? For me, it was not a place where I’d like to hang out for a bit to enjoy my food and drink.
There was a slow, steady stream of patrons. One loud talker was pretty complimentary of the place, so it may not be that bad. I figure I’ll try out a lot more places before heading back.

I seen this place years ago and decide to check it out after two years.
Bethesda, Rockville bakeries or Le Madeleine’s in Columbia have better in taste and selections are the same. in my opinion.
Fruit tarts have too chuncky unripe fruits that falls apart when you bite/​cut into it…
eclairs, cupcakes and napoleon’s…nothing to brag about. (maybe just that day ?)
Raulin’s Bakery in Beltsville, Giants or Le Madeleine’s (Md) seems better alternatives.
Yet I agree if you live by Olney/​Sandy Springs area this is the only best place to get sweets

GLAD TO HAVE A BAKERY NEAR OLNEY! Giant & Safeway just don’t cut it for baked goods. Passion Bakery is wonderful! Great family runs it — brother to the Flowers Bakery in Layhill (corner of Bel Pre & Layhill behind the gas station). They’re very friendly and welcoming. Food is Fresh and delicious. Kids love the cookies, pastries, & cupcakes (cupcake was enormous and a bit daunting for an attempt on my part but kids dug in!). Pastries are the best here — chocolate croissant, a DELICIOUS custard danish that is rectangle and delicious. Theyr’e often warm when we get there in the morning. They bring their breads in from Lyons bakery which are great. I love this place and you’ll find me dawdling in front of the baked goods every weekend! Plus, their coffee is delicious!

A NEIGHBORHOOD GEM! Located in the space vacated by The French Confection, Passion Bakery Café has not let the Olney-​Sandy Spring-​Ashton area miss a beat for the best in cakes, pastries and other baked treats.
To sum it all up: Great Bakery. Don’t miss it as you pass through Sandy Spring.
I dare you to try to decide on a cake. They all are so appetizing that I want one of each… right NOW! I settled for the Mango Mousse cake. It was a delicious treat — light and tasty and so pretty, too. The chocolate croissants are, well, my mouth is watering just thinking about them. And, after those two courses, I could not pass up the raspberry dessert cookies — buttery and flaky with a sprinkling of confectioner’s sugar: perfect!
Coming from a long line of professional bakers, I highly recommend you stop and pick up a tart, cheesecake, or Napoleon. The owners hail from the Watergate Hotel’s bakery, so you will get the very finest the area has to offer.
I really wish I lived next door!

THE DAY AFTER I wrote this review, my girlfriend and I visited a different bakery in Gaithersburg, just because it was next to the place we ate lunch. We went in, looked around and left. I said, «Someday, I am going to show you what an expert baker prepares.»
It just so happened that we passed by Passion Bakery Café that eveing (Sunday) on our way to dinner at my folks’ place. I saw they were open, so we turned around and we are glad we did. Not only was I able to brag about the place, my girlfriend suggested we take a cake to our party. We selected the Chocolate & White Chocolate Mousse Cake. Even though my own baker-​mother had baked her own cake, The Mousse Cake was the hit of the evening. I even called the owner to tell him so. The cake was fresh, moist and melt-​in-​your-​mouth. The large chocolate shavings evaporate on your tongue. The Cake is a culinary joy!
If you ever see one in the display case, get it. If you don’t see one, it is because I bought the last one!
So, order your own!!!
