Business Owner

Rob’s innovations stand apart because his background is one-​of-​a-​kind. As founder of Cooking School of Aspen, Rob cooked alongside hundreds of culinary legends and superstars. He taught the majority of classes and led the school’s tours of Italy, Morocco and South Africa.

As founder of Salt Traders, Rob introduced the food world to specialty salts and was deemed an industry innovator. He’s been featured on the Food Network, Fine Living Network, and Travel Channel, is the author of Real Cooking for Kids and the food columnist for The Aspen Daily News.

Delicious! Beyond our expectations from the minute we walked in. Apps were very tasty (tartare and crab cakes – good lord!!). Entrees were perfection and sides were a welcomed complement. Service was excellent, comfortable but attentive. Highly recommend this place, can’t understand why it wasn’t packed to the brim on a Saturday night!!!

The absolute best thing about the Tavern is their $ 5 dinner specials. During the off-​season, they have them every night of the week — burgers, grilled chicken, pork tacos, french dip — all excellent for the price. During the peak season, I think they feature their specials on Wednesday and Saturday nights only, so you might want to call ahead and check.

Is there a zero star for the Tavern?
We’ve lived in Aspen 13 years and always try to direct family and friends to some places that have a little ‘character’. I recently sent my 27 year old nephew & girlfriend to the Tavern for a quick bite before they went to X Games. It was 6:15 on Friday night… just a few tables occupied. They sat down with a menu and after 15 minutes, no one even really acknowledged they existed. What’s up with that? These are nice Midwest kids. Frustrated and insulted, they left.
I recently ate at the Steakhouse as part of the Filmfest event and the food was pretty good. But if this is how they want to treat people, no thanks. I won’t return and I certainly won’t embarrass my guests by sending them.
