Thundemuck is my daily roast. I used to pick up two pounds every two weeks when I’d make a trip down to Warrenton to visit my grandparents and do a round of consulting for the fishing company I work for. Luckily, I can now get the beans shipped to me as most of my consulting can be done online(I still swing by when I visit the family, though). I hope they bring back the Frodo’s Cup roast. The one time I was able to try it, I snagged a pound and haven’t seen it since. It was to die for! I think it was a seasonal roast, so maybe I’m just looking at the wrong times. The historic Finnish Meat Market has been home to many things and is near and dear to my heart — we used to see Shanghaied in Astoria there. I love the location and wish I lived near enough to make it my daily coffee stop. It’s a cute shop and the beans can’t be beat.

Simply outstanding coffee, outstanding quiche, and a very desirable atmosphere welcoming people across all demographics, from your standard coffee hipsters, to families with young children, to retirees, to tired laborers indulging in a warm cuppa. Will be back!

Quite simply our favorite coffee house in town! Always a warm welcome when arriving, and it’s a comfortable place to just sit and enjoy the most amazing coffee ever. They also serve great treats, have free wifi, and accessible plug-ins if you need to charge your electronic device while there.

Best. Place. Ever. When you first walk in you’re amazed by the tall room. They have an awesome swing and tons of books to read, a cozy couch section and beautiful art that changes frequently. The coffee is real and not that sissy sweet stuff. I get a blended carmel latte everytime I go(my workplace is across the street) and they never fail to have that rich coffee taste and just the right amount of sweet and bitter. REALWHIPCREAM. I cannot stress this enough. They have the delicious goodness that sticks to the roof of your mouth and reminds you of mom’s house. All and all I love it here and won’t stop coming to get my caffeine hook up. Worth every penny, plus I get 5 Star reward points through their program. Saving up for my Hydro Flask!

Great cozy place. The owner is a very gregarious woman. Good views with a plenty of places to read a book or surf the Internet. Stop and do yourself a favor.

Stopped in as we started heading home from the Coast. Excellent coffee, great service, wonderful aroma and great view. If you are in need of great cold brew, or a tasty Carmel mocha — stop in!

Japanese technique to make hot coffee and add ice? Taste proves = tastes like hot drip on ice = diluted.

I’m a coffee snob(not proud of it; just am), so was hunting down good coffee via Unilocal. Was planning on trying a different place, but then found 3 Cups which was very near our hotel(lucky us!), so we walked over for a take-out morning latte and a drip coffee before we hit the road to head back home. These people know what they’re doing and they make a great latte. Even their decaf is good(Swiss water process; yay!). I bought a bag-o-beans(organic) and can’t wait to try them out at home.

Great coffee house in Astoria. Fun place to hang out with or without kids. Comfy couches, even an indoor swing. Great coffee and pastries.

Silky Smooth Cubano & tasty savoury scone from this cosy café made me a happy camper(literally). Warm, friendly baristas who know their stuff and are happy to chat. Plenty of seating, books aplenty, and there’s even a hammock! Plus, it’s always great to see Rosie the R. represented!

A gem in Astoria. Comfy and spacious. Very friendly staff. Their Whitewater Extreme is a huge surprise. It’s made with unroasted beans, but it turns out like a peanut butter bliss. Give it a try!

Can’t get enough of this place! I wish we had one in Portland! Stumbled upon this place the first time we visited Astoria. Saw the rave reviews and spunky menu so I wanted to give it a try. At the bottom of the menu is where you will find one of the most curiously addicting iced beverages of your life. It’s called the White River Coffee(I think!) and its basically a white coffee bean that is brewed, mixed with milk and hazelnut and white chocolate syrup. I always get it half sweet with almond milk :) Yum, yum, yummy. Also, their pastries and sweets are very unique and tasty too. I got an awesome oatmeal cookie thing one time and a scone the next. Or maybe it was some sort of bar? Regardless, both were tasty.(& I’m picky about my baked goods!) If you are passing through Astoria, check this place out! Friendly faces, great coffee, awesome atmosphere. Can’t wait until we’re back up there! P. s. they have a swingy chair. It’s legit.

What a beautiful and relaxing place! Plenty of space yet still cozy and tons of natural light. Love the little surprising touches, like a hammock-ish seat hanging from the ceiling. The specials are posted on the board and the menu is in front of the register. I asked for hot chocolate and was surprised to have four varieties(chocolate, white chocolate, Mayan, Mexican) as well as four sizes to choose from. Food is limited to muffins, quiches, paninis, bagels, and such. The ham and green onion quiche was tasty and flavorful, but heavy on the crust. My hot chocolate was a bit disappointing, lacked the rich chocolate flavor I expect… but the whipped cream was fresh and thick and so, so good! Very friendly people working here and food/drinks came out pretty quickly. They have games here for the kids. Would definitely come back!

Oh the Thundermuck! Gave us a sample before we made the choice of a full cup. Chai tea had a wonderful foam with nutmeg sprinkle that lasted all the way to the bottom sip. Staff happy, friendly, and informative on their coffee products.

Simply the best! When it comes to coffee I do not mess around. It’s either awesome or it’s not, or worse it’s Starbucks. The place just has this amazing anything can happen if you just dream it vibe and I just want to hang out here and drink very well made delicious coffee drinks under a great big giant bridge, exclamation point. I think this is where all the truly cool locals come to get their morning cup of coffee on, because you know that’s what I would do if I lived here full time. Trust me, this place is super badass, and they have dynamite coffee that is roasted in house by CRCR and made/served up by super cool chicks that are there to have fun and they just brighten your day. What more could you ever want? Nothing. Love the coffee shop and it will love you back. Cheers!

I love going into places with passionate employees. I love coffee and used to be a barista. I asked a lot of questions and the more I asked the more I got. I loved this place. The coffee was good, but s bit on the bitter side for my taste. It was a cute place and they have a nice little book exchange. I would come back in a heartbeat. Although it was a great place to stop in, I couldn’t see spending more than a few minutes hanging out. It’s a very open concept space and I prefer a cozier style.

After trying all sorts of coffee joints in Portland and areas nearby Astoria, I have to say that Columbia River Coffee Roaster is the best I’ve been to by far. In fact, it’s one of the best coffee shops I’ve ever visited. Their coffee is roasted on site. You can’t get any fresher than that, and it’s no wonder their drinks are excellent. Their Honey Macchiatto was calling me out from its menu, but I noticed it only came in form of espresso shots. Not a problem! One of the friendly baristas was able to make me a standard drink. The result: a 12oz cup of filled with a frothy and smooth caffeinated beverage sweetened with honey. Truly delicious; it was the perfect drink. I doubt that any coffee shop chain can replicate such perfection. The staff members are extremely nice and accommodating, and they make you feel right at home in their cozy shop. If you’re driving through Astoria, be sure to make a brief stop at Columbia River Coffee Roaster for a pick-me-up and a bag of freshly roasted coffee to-go.
