Business Owner

Valerie Karpaty is a Certified Medical Assistant and Registered Phlebotomist by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), and has a special interest in aesthetic medicine and cosmetics. She is also licensed by the NY state Department of Health and Environmental Hygiene to practice Permanent Makeup. With more than 10 years of experience, she is a leading aesthetician, as well as cofounder and director of Allure Skincare, in Astoria, NY. She is passionate about helping patients look as young as they feel with remarkable results. Valerie Karpaty received her Allied Health degree with honors from Mandl College of Allied Health. She has received advanced training and is certified in all clinical treatments and procedures performed at the spa.

An articulate provider; she is also Lab Coordinator and Assists in the Clinical & Administrative Lab courses of Mandl College. A knowledgeable speaker and writer, and passionate about giving back to the community, she broadcasts and prints

I bought a 10 treatments from Groupon, each treatment is 1 hour session divided in 3 sections, 20 min each. First treatment was good, second about 20 min less, the third one was 40 min less so I decided not to go there anymore, I don’t understand for 1 hour treatment they did 15 min… whats that? Really upset

I am writing this for my wife– she had a scheduled and confirmed appointment. Upon arrival 15 minutes early, the metal grate was down and locked. We waited for over 30 minutes — no one showed. We didn’t bother to call as no one ever answers or calls back. Not sure how they stay in business.

Avoid this place at any cost. I’ve been there twice for facial and I found it to be good. Unfortunately, there is no respect whatsoever to their customers. I read a lot of reviews and neglected the fact this place can actually be closed at your appointment time. I wasted whole day and they did not even bother to send me an email. Do not waste your time, find something else and there are plenty places to go to.

I’m usually very good at giving businesses the benefit of the doubt, but I can’t let some things just slide under the rug.
My mother gave me part of her veloshaper package and I was excited to try it out.
I was running 30 minutes late, and the lady said I could go in anyway… so I did and there was a customer already inside waiting, she had forgotten about her. No biggie told me to come in 2 hours and so I did and there was noone there to answer the door, so I wasted part of my afternoon. This is unacceptable!

I am certain that the positive reviews on this establishment are false, and am wondering why conveniently, Unilocal is not recommending a number of the negative reviews. Suspicious.
I attempted to go to Allure for my third Velashape session earlier today. My experiences thus far have been meh, but I will no longer plan to go from now on and am seeking a refund.
For my first confirmed session, Chara opened the door for me and I waited 45 minutes for my first session. Chara did not explain the process at all, and Velashaped me as I peppered her with questions. Not ideal, but like I said, meh. I will return.
For my second confirmed session, the place was closed. Yeap. 7 degree weather I trekked it out there and it was closed. Supposedly, they open at 10am and I was there at 11:30am for my appointment, and I saw nothing but the metal gate covering the storefront. I waited 12 minutes in the cold and trudged it back home. Valerie called me back about 30 min. later, not very apologetic and I returned later that day for my session. She was nice enough, but again… meh.
For my third confirmed session, the place was closed. This time, in 24 degree weather. I had called and left voicemails, and have not had any calls returned.
Having confirmed appointments and the establishment be closed 2 out of 3 times is unacceptable. Service was also meh. No way are these raving reviews true.

I bought groupon for 3 velashape sessions, called in and booked an appointment. When I came in a few days later for my appointment the place was closed! Yes, you heard it right! I kept calling their reception desk, ranging the door bell, waited 20 minutes in cold outside, left voicemail and nobody let me in! I just felt like I was robbed and scammed. Even the next day nobody called me back to reschedule or apologize! I don’t understand how they are in a business like this booking appointments and closing without calling in advance to cancel or reschedule. They just waste people’s time! I hope I will be able to get a refund. Will never do business with them again.

I’m wondering why Unilocal has filtered my review. I am an actual customer & I’ve written plenty of reviews before, yet this was filtered along with 65+ other reviews, while the one person who complained & have only written 1 review ever has their review put up. The «scientific» filtering system isn’t working, now is it?!? Conspiracy? Ye (l)p!
I bought the IPL photofacial through Lifebooker for my mom & I. I’ve gone there 3x already. The first 2 times were with Angelica. When I first met her, she kept insisting I would need a facial first (extra $ 50) which would give me better results. I didn’t want to get a facial. She kept telling me I should consider it for the next treatment. The 2 sessions with Angelica was ok. I felt she rushed through the session. I didn’t see any results from them. The 3rd time, I had Valerie & I told her I didn’t see any results. I think she turned up the strength of the machine & she went over areas more than once (the areas I pointed out to her). And then she gave me the most amazing & relaxing face massage afterwards. I nearly passed out from it, it was that good. I definitely saw more dramatic results when Valerie did my face. I’m hoping my 4th session will be just as good. My mom have only gone once & had gotten Angelica. She did not report seeing any results thus far. We’ll have to request to have Valerie do the work from now on.
The place is small. There’s a bathroom in the back & 2 treatment rooms. But there’s usually only one person working during the daytime. So you might not get someone to pick up the phone some times. But the times I have called, the phones were always answered promptly & they were all very nice as well.

Hi all, my review is for a microdermabrasion treatment I got through a living social deal. I expected a high customer volume due to the deals sold so I waited to book. It wasn’t super busy, a very nice lady took made my appointment they sent me a text the day before as a reminder. Valerie took very good care of my skin and talked me through the treatment. My last 10 minutes I fell asleep under the anti aging light. It was a very relaxing experience and my skin was glowing and rejuvenated. I would go back again.

I purchased 9 Velashape treatments via Groupon. I still have not finished my sessions (on my sixth), but have already noticed a difference. The technician is very helpful with her advice post treatment (tons of water and try to keep cardio up). Overall, the spa is clean and all of my appts have been on time and taken the full hour (working on front and back of legs).

I heard about velashape via Dr. Oz show and purchased it in groupon. Session itself is 30min– but I never received 30min session from day#1. Their explanation is my body gets heated up quicker than others. And also I’m not big person… They should have compensated my time that I didn’t get (I only get 15 – 20 min each session after 2hr commute with 19dollars toll) — they offered me complimentary 1session. But now I received email and realized that I need to write review here in order to get complimentary session.
Treatments were ok. people work there is Pleasaant and nice. If u live round there– it is worth it to go. But I am living too far… And Not that desperately need to get this treatment. Now They r offering 1hr 10sessions for 999 to maintain… I am not sure how many minutes of treatment I will got. I suggest that 30min treatment should b 30min– they should have given treatment to other body part to complete 30min or just give hand massage where the treatment that customer received. My co-​worker went there too. she had experienced the same thing…

I purchased 9 Velashape treatments through a Groupon deal. I just finished my last session and I have to say I’m very satisfied with the results. The results are definitely visible. I would definitely recommend this treatment and Allure to anyone looking for a professional experience. I plan on going back for their facials!

I purchased a Groupon from here for 3 IPL facials for $ 99 dollars. I NEVER go to Astoria but I couldn’t pass up a deal like that so I figured I’d just suffer with a long commute.
The spa itself is nice. It is located on a nice block of Astoria near the train so my commute was easier than I thought it would be. The place is really tiny with only one treatment room but the décor and atmosphere are pleasant. I found the staff and owner to be friendly and professional.
Before my first session the owner asked me a few questions about my skin and habits and then proceeded into the treatment. People have described IPL as feeling as if you are being snapped by a rubber band. I think it is a little more painful than that but not overly excruciating. I found the areas closest of my eyes and around my mouth to be the most sensitive. After the IPL she gives you a really relaxing face massage to finish up the treatment. I think the entire process lasts maybe 40 – 45 minutes.
I think I am really starting to notice some benefits from the IPL. My skin does seem brighter and a bit smoother. Plus, I haven’t been breaking out as much but I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the IPL or not.
All in all I would recommend this place and I would consider purchasing services on my own rather than as a groupon. I have heard they do an excellent job on endermologie here. I might try that for next summer before the new bikini season!

I have a fair complexion and was experiencing mild rosacea and enlarged pores. I tried topical treatment for the rosacea, prescribed by «myself», but felt that photophacial would be a more natural solution.(I’m not into taking medication when there’s an alternative).
After just two photofacial sessions my skin was like porcelain. It was unbelievable. I also noticed decreased pore size. I was traveling to Buenos Aires at the time and boasted soft, even toned skin during my vacation.
The treatments were fairly comfortable. Each «zap» felt like a little rubber band being snapped on my skin… no big deal. This was 2 months ago, and my skin still looks fabulous.
Regarding the spa service, I disagree with the previous review. I received very professional service. The receptionist and cosmetician were polite, sweet and my overall experience was positive. I look forward to returning for more treatments and would recommend this spa to others without thinking twice.
