It has been a while since I was here and the interior does not stand out much, but the Velvet cake was delicious and a large piece.

The BF and I eat a loooot of bread, and always get it here. It tastes great and is very reasonably priced. We’ve had the whole wheat, honey oat, semolina, and grain. All were muy delicioso. I also get my morning coffee here — it’s giant, tasty, and costs 1.75! I am not a huge confections or pastry person, so cannot speak to those.

I am… like…batting my eyelashes in shock at the review for this spot. I’ve walked past it for years and never went in. One day I was walking around with a bud, who had a sweet tooth, and we popped in. The mexican guy was super helpful and welcoming, the lady wasn’t overly friendly but she wasn’t rude or unwelcoming. The«table area»? A bit ghetto. But the display case was nice, as usual. The day old cupcakes were hard… but I could see that and didn’t purchase them. The red velvet cake itself? Awesome. The frosting? They do part cream cheese, and part whipped cream. Wasn’t my thing, since, to me, red velvet should have thick creamed cheese frosting. But the cake itself was good, the portion was huge(took me three settings to make my way through it), and the price was right. The croissants were lovely, and stayed that way for the five days it took me to make it through the couple I ordered. The cookies my bud got were awesome! Chocolate-dipped italian sandwich deals. They were so good, in fact, that he bought two dozen, planning to have them for the week, but couldn’t resist going back for more the entire evening, and had them demolished before he got home. I personally liked the baklava with pistachios. Best I’ve ever had? No. But still decent. I’m sure there are better options, especially in this area. But still nice, and a healthy sized portion. And the honey syrup was quite thick. The baklava could deal with some more of it between the layers. But, still, nice. I also got an ENORMOUS piece(FAR too big to be called a slice) of galaktoboureko. This is one of my all time favorite Greek desserts. They do a good job with it. I could use a bit more fillo and a bit less custard… and the cardamom(or at least it tasted like that was in there) was a nice non-traditional spice… though a bit heavy handed. Still, I liked my experience there. I liked the items I bought. I plan to make it through more of the items. And I would recommend giving them a go.

I hate rating a place based on one item, but their brownie was AWFUL. It’s big and thick like a cake and had a CHEMICAL taste to it. It wasn’t soft or fresh. I still taste the chemical flavor in my mouth. No idea what it could be. Vanillin? I’m not sure I’d try anything else from there, unfortunately.

Disgusting, old, stale baked goods sold by an occasionally pleasant woman in an old dirty building. Tried it twice. Never again.

Walking around in Astroia to shop for the week, I decided to stop in and get some fresh made bread. There were alot to choose from from round to squares to everything in between. I wanted to try everything at least once but the price of the cookie and dessert were alot expensive so I just order a pistachio baklava. I wanted a chocolate rainbow cake w.3 layer of different color but my friend say I can only choose 1 so I didn’t buy it but keep thinking about it all nite long. The baklava wasn’t that good and it seem like they water down the syrup or honey alot where it is mostly water and nonsticky. I made baklava before and this isn’t chose to what it suppose to be and I was finally glad that I didn’t get the chocolate rainbow cake. I am not coming back here anytime soon.

This place is good if you like really soft(and inexpensive) Italian bread — that they did very well. But they don’t have anything that is more dense, like a peasant bread. I really like complex breads, like a god whole grain, but the breads at this bakery are just too plain for me. I tried the olive bread but was disappointed because it was very short on olives. I also tried their spinach pie, and was pretty disappointed. It just wasn’t very flavorful — especially for a Greek neighborhood. I did not try any of the desserts.

I can only attest to the«square loaf», which is what they call a freshly baked Pullman style sandwich loaf. Its the only sandwich bread I get in Astoria. At a buck ninety five, its hard to argue a case for any place else. IE, Yaya’s on 31st street between 30th Ave and Newtown is three bucks! And no where near as good. The size of each slice is large enough to make a substantial sandwich. I’m sorry that the other people had bad experiences here, Ive never had one. Their desserts, baklavas etc are ok… but I only really go there for the square loaf. They come in white and whole wheat; both are pretty awesome.

The woman behind the counter was definitely not friendly. You walk in and as you browse she watches you, as if she wants to yell«buy something or get out.» I asked which of the loaves was fresh, she answered none. «You want fresh, you come at 12.» I wanted bread anyway, so I got a loaf of rye, which was ok, but not bakery quality. Not coming back here again.

Mexican baker, not Italian(they market themselves as Italian). Okay spinach pie, good butter cookies, many filled with weird jam, BAD cannoli.
