Alright… i actually didn’t get my hair cut here. but theres a reason why. and a good reason at that. Perhaps their skills are fantastic, but I’ll just never know! I called Casablanca with the intent of asking a few questions that are quite relevant to… well… cutting hair and some concomitant details. Casablanca: HELLO?!(quite gruff voice, yes male) me: hi, … is this Casablanca? Casablanca: yes. me: do you have any space tomorrow for a haircut? Casablanca: …man or woman? me: woman. Casablanca: NO. me: okay… when are you available? CLICK! the dude hung up on me… how on earth can i go get my hair cut if i cant even have a decent conversation on the phone with this business?! sheesh.

Nice people. Not my favorite haircut of all time, but my girlfriend likes it.

KIDS — This is the wrong address for Casablanca! See the other listing! Friends near and far, I’m sorry… I’m sorry to say I haven’t written this much sooner. Soula(pronounced Shoola)(from Greece of course!) has been cutting my hair for over 6 years now. She always does a great job. We moved to Jackson Heights and I still drive back to Astoria to see her! She cuts mostly guys’ hair and is always busy, but I never seem to have to wait more than 5 – 10 mins! She’s off on Sundays and there til 6pm most other days. We like her so much that my son David is now almost 2 years and she’s givin him his first haircut and I’m pretty sure he’s happy to go back! Another loyal customer I’m afraid. She just had a baby girl, but she told me she should be back in September. Congrats Soula! Can’t wait to meet her. When Soula is not in, I’ll be having Ben cut my hair. While he usually cuts women’s hair, he’s quiet and a no nonsense kind of guy. He’s always there and off on Tuesdays. No appointment necessary, but you can certainly make one if you want to call ahead. Mike, the owner, is always around to greet folks and friendly to all. It’s a clean basic nice place and the only cheaper place is a barber shop. Men’s haircuts with shampoo are only $ 15 plus tip. How can you beat that? This is the best value in haircuts in Astoria and possibly in NYC. My wife liked the haircut that Ben gave her. Wash, cut and blow dry for less than $ 30 bucks and from what she tells me that’s cheap! Tell Ben and Soula that Raul Rojas sent you from Unilocal! If you are going in for a haircut and need a quarter or two, I bet you they would be happy to help. KIDS! This is not the correct address! See the other listing as «Casablanca» on 30th Ave between 33rd and 34th St. See you there!

A solid haircut for a great price… I intend to become a regular.

I’ve been getting my hair cut at Casablanca for a couple of years now and have never had what I would consider a disappointing experience there. Despite the fact that I no longer live in Astoria, I still come back here every month or so for a trim. There’s nothing wrong with a little loyalty, and it’s a nice excuse to visit the old ‘hood, I guess. I jumped around between different stylists for my first few visits before finally settling on Carlos. His station is right by the front door and he’s a very friendly guy, if perhaps a bit too chatty sometimes. Carlos hails from Colombia originally and his accent is very heavy. Paired with the fact that he doesn’t grasp a lot of English idioms, conversation can be a bit of a struggle sometimes, but you’re not exactly there for the conversation, are you? Carlos does a great job of giving a solid haircut in a relatively short amount of time. A men’s wash and cut comes in at $ 15 plus tip, and despite the fact that I’ve never made an appointment, he’s always happy to give me a cut, even when it seems like the owner might rather be closing the place up for the night. I would definitely recommend Casablanca to any guy looking for a relatively cheap haircut that is a step above what you’d get at some of the neighborhood barber shops. Very reliable and a pleasant experience.

Soulla is one of my favorite people in Astoria — I only see her once a month when she cuts my hair, but it’s always a treat. She takes good care of me and I recommend her to everyone! I hear the other stylists there are great too — if you’re looking for a place in Astoria, you can’t beat it.
