CityMD – Astoria

I came in today with a migraine headache. The doctor saw me right away and I was in and out in about 20 – 30 minutes. Not only did they treat the migraine, but they were also able to identify the cause of the migraine very quickly. I will definitely come back here the next time I’m sick.

In and out service, Efficient and professional, the front desk is welcoming and the place is wise and clean. I didn’t have to put my skills on the medical field to be treated right. (I loved that) finally I can be a patient. Staring with Amanda the medical assistant to Dr Shirley Desormes the experience was smooth and easy.
Dr Desormes listen to my needs and never hesitate once in making sure I got what I need. Am glad I listen to my sister. City MD is a pretty cool place to go when you just don’t want to deal with the waiting and incompetent people you get when in the emergency room. Just saying! Loved it. Hope I don’t get sick soon but I got the place to go now. ;)

I went in on the afternoon of new years eve and had to wait about 15 minutes to be seen. After an initial exam/​consultation with a nurse or PA, I had to wait about 30 minutes before the doctor came in. Everyone was friendly and efficient.
The doctor came in and spoke with me for about 60 seconds before authorizing the antibiotics Rx I needed. They said they sent it to my pharmacy, but when I got there 30 minutes later the pharmacy had not received it. I called CityMD Astoria, but they had closed early for the holiday (note — they were supposed to close at 4pm for the holiday but had set their phone system to «closed» by the time I called at 3:30pm). I was eventually able to get in touch with another CityMD office (union square I believe) and they sent the Rx again, this time without an issue.
No-​frills medical care, but I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get the Rx filled when I couldn’t get in touch with the Astoria office.

The reason I give City MD 5 stars is because they make it their business to ensure that their patients are okay and they follow up w/​a call. About a year ago I came to City MD because I had a pain on my leg and the doctor immediately told me to go another doctor. The doctor called the following day to ensure that I followed thru w/​his recommendation and when he found out I didn’t he basically follow thru and explained the importance of me going to another doctor and GUESS WHAT… he was right. I had a blood clot and if he didn’t follow up I might have not gone to the doctor the following day. They have great customer service, the clinic is clean besides the floating invisible germs and have always taken good care of me and my boss who scratch her cornea a few months ago.

Do not go to this urgent care center unless you don’t have a choice. 1^st my previous review was deleted because it was too short. I waited about 30Mins to been seen.
The person who helps the doctor is a bit of a creep. I did not feel comfortable when he was asking me questions. I went to this place because I was having neck issues.
Needless to say the doctor said it was a sprained neck. He was wrong. DEAD WRONG. I had a pinched nerve. They gave me these muscle relaxers that did not help at all.
I am giving two stars because the radiologist caught me when I fainted. Try going to the urgent care in Jackson heights they are way better. But in the end your PCP knows best.

I went in because I suddenly felt extremely sick. I’m generally apprehensive of walk-​in clinics and don’t expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised. I saw Dr. Lisa Singh, and she was great — thorough, nice, clear, and competent. I was so impressed I felt compelled to write a review.

Good for flu shots! Been getting my flu shots here for a few years now. The office is clean, nice, and comfortable. Minimal wait time. Usually just a few minutes in my experience. Reception check-​in is quick and easy (and you can check in online). They are also accommodating of my need to lie down when I get a shot (since I’ve gotten dizzy in the past), which is much appreciated.
The only downside has been that I went in for what I thought was an eye infection about a year ago. They gave me some antibiotic eye drops. A few weeks later it came back and I went to an eye doctor (not at City MD) and they said it wasn’t an eye infection, but instead allergies and blocked ducts. Not a huge deal, but I wish City MD had told me I should really see an eye doctor since I guess they weren’t as sure as they seemed.
Overall, pretty good for what it is. Probably best to remember it’s an urgent care clinic, and know that not all doctors are specialists in all fields.

This place has the worst costumer service people in the whole NYC medical facilities!
Place is definitely pretty but as they say looks are deceiving!
I question the credibility of so call college undergraduate looking physicians?
I went to the place Tuesday with pain fever symptoms of strep throat and ear infection!
Fever temperature was taken in the rush and recorded at 98 when in fact was 101!
No medication was given to me, basically I was told buy over the counter drugs. Even after I explain I can’t eat and I am in pain I was told you can just take Tylenol for pain :/​
Now, throat culture test was taken and I was told in 3 days we will call you with results! 3 days from Tuesday means Friday! It’s Sunday and no one had called me!
It’s Sunday I called and spoke to the mechanic” yes mechanic” he wasn’t fit to be a doctor nor physician and he tells me test was negative, so I asked him why am I in pain! He said come in we will see you or go to emergency room.
I decided to go back and avoid the wait time in emergency room. When I walked in and explain the pathetic women who works in front and is bored out of her life she told me we are close to closing and physician doesn’t want to see anyone!
I walked out speechless! I walked out of the place with words in my mouth but did not say it Fck you and fck this place!
Went to emergency and right there and there «you have strep throat and been having strep throat for few days now «
Fck you city md! Reporting you to medical board and BBB!

In and out in less than an hour. Very clean. Doctor, assistants, and staff were all extremely nice and efficient. They even helped find and schedule me a specialist near by. Is it weird that I want this urgent care to be my primary doc.

I’ve been happy with my experience here in the past, but after today I will not be back. I came in with a bad bee sting and forgot my insurance card. I asked if I could be billed, and the woman at the front desk was condescending and rude, gave me a text book listing of their policy and told me why it was obvious they could not look me up in the system. I politely suggested that they have a sign that says this so that patients don’t fill put all that paperwork only to be told they won’t be seen unless they pay out of pocket (which is ridiculous if you are lucky enough to have insurance). She looked up, scoffed, and said «no. Because-​» and continued to say the exact same thing over again as the other receptionists watched. I think when you’re having even a minor emergency you should be spoken to with compassion as opposed to judgement.

This is a nice, beautiful and clean facility. I am giving it two stars because the woman at the desk did not give me change back (I realized later because I was reading something when I was doing the transaction). That wasn’t cute. Double check!!!
Basically the main reason to go here is if you think you have an infection of any sort. They can help you if you have strep, UTI, etc. For viral cases, they can’t do much. The doctor essentially told me that he can’t do anything except out rule infection. If that’s what you need, this place is pretty handy. You can get in and out quickly. For more extensive medical consultation and care, seek another type of doctor. Don’t substitute this for a specialist.

Eleventy million stars for this CityMD location. After a week of suffering through a worsening cough («no, it’s just a cold, I’m fine»), I woke up on a Saturday morning with a fever, chills, nasty sweats, and a boyfriend hovering over me being all like «Yeah, you probably need to go to the doctor at this point.»
Got in and out of CityMD within 30 minutes with a bronchitis diagnosis and antibiotics that were given to me for free because they knew I didn’t have health coverage. Great place to go if you same something minor and just need an in-​and-​out appointment!

RIP-​Off!!! Stay away!!!
I was suffering from allergies very badly but my physician was very busy that day, then I decided to try city MD. I showed my insurance ID and they promptly tells me is accepted by them. Then they take my credit card info and say they will use it in case the insurance doesn’t cover the full portion of their fee. It sounded really suspicious. In fact any medical facility I have been to were able to let me know what their fees are and what portion of that fee is uncovered by the insurance in advance. But not City MD!
Anyway a year earlier at this same MD location when I was covered by Obama care which they did not accept I was offered to be seen upon a payment of $ 120 out of my pocket. So I was pretty comfortable not knowing exactly how much I was gonna be charged as if their fee is going to be 120 and at least part of it is covered by the insurance I thought this would have cost me way below $ 100.
Disgracefully though a couple weeks later I received a letter from MD claiming their fee is $ 231 and only $ 1 is covered by the insurance???
$ 231 dollar for a prescription of allergy medicines sold over the counter???
IN my world this is a serious SERIOUS RIP-​OFF which I am going to bring to the small claims court unless city MD send me a full refund and some excuses.
SHAMEFUL!!! Ripping off hard working earned money by hiding fees is shameful indeed!!!
Please stay away or have them disclose their fees in advance as they are supposed to!

Amazingly, I get a private call last night at 10:20pm from a guy claiming to be a doctor at city MD apologizing for the situation and asking me if I wanted to go to another city MD office the next day in Jackson heights for them to perform the procedure … What the hell kind if an organization operates like this… going there was a huge mistake and god only knows what they are doing with my information… time to call my insurance company

I rushed myself here to get my head checked after I experienced what I thought was a mild stroke. One side of my face twiched and drooped temporarily. I waited over half an hour to be told that they do not have an MRI machine to scan my head. The doctor simply conducted some quick physical exams then told me he could not make a diagnosis without a scan of my head. Since they do not have the equipment, he recommended I go to the ER at Mount Sinai Hospital located nearby.
I would have appreciated it if they had notified me of the lack of equipment before they made me wait and go through an exam that provided no results. I went to the ER and waited over three hours to be told that I was just suffering from stress and lack of rest.
City MD certainly has a shorter wait than the ER but their facility lacks some major equipment. The place was clean and the staff was friendly.

My rheumatologist suggested I go here to get a cortisone shot when his appointment book was full for the day. They don’t give cortisone shots so it cost me $ 45 to listen to a doctor give me a wikipedia-​like assessment of my arthritis, all of which I already knew. Plus she stood on the other side of the room like she was afraid of me. Nice.
Call them and ask them if they do what you need before you waste your time and money thinking they can help.
My doctor likes them because they can take x-​rays. They offered to take what I considered an unnecessary x-​ray right away. So I declined. They have free lollipops at the front desk.
$ 45 lollipops.

Not gonna get into the nitty gritty, no one likes going to the doctor! Luckily this place makes it a less crappy experience.
Pros:
–friendly staff
–very quick!!! :)
–clean and professional
–no appt needed!
Cons:
–They are considered «urgent care» which means you or your insurance will have to fork up extra $$$.at least that was the case with my insurance.
Try them out. They got free pens and travel size hand sanitizer spray at the desk! LOL

If you happen to be like me and dislike with a passion visiting doctors for non-​social reasons, then perhaps you also do not have a primary physician? Fret no more because CityMD’s business model is based on folks like us. Walk in sans appointment and you will be quickly seen by a pleasant doctor in their very clean and well maintained facilities scattered throughout NYC.
Most would suggest that having a primary care physician is preferred and I would agree. But the reality is that in my hood MDs (medical doctors not muff divers) are either not accepting new patients; those that are taking new patients don’t take my insurance or any insurance; and those that accept my insurance suck. What’s a sick boy to do? CityMD.

Ive been to this place two times only. First time was amazing, I had a consultation with Dr. Wang and he is absolutely fantastic, great doctor.
Second time, on a saturday afternoon, unfortunately, i got a different physician. Him and the staff made me feel super uncomfortable. I have no health insurance at the moment, but I can definitely afford my medical emergencies and I was ready for that; However, they kept reminding me that everything costs, xray, consultation,. I have a foreign accent so perhaps they thought that I was uneducated or poor. Worst moment came when I was at the room and heard the doctor with the staff at the reception making jokes about me and the fact that im a self-​pay (like if I couldn’t afford it).
I dont care about jokes and unprofessional people, so I will be back for sure when I need just because of my great experience with dr. Wang.

My wife recently came down with a nasty cold while we were out of town at a wedding. As anyone who’s ever flown with a cold knows, things can get ugly when you start to land and your ears don’t depressurize.
Throughout the week her cold symptoms started to go away, but a wicked cough took it’s place. Over three days it got so bad we decided a trip to Urgent Care was necessary. We decided that mostly because WebMD convinced us she had walking pneumonia!
So we arrive at CityMD shortly after they opened on a Sunday morning. The place is gorgeous, modern, clean, and shows it’s neighborhood pride with paintings and posters of Astoria locations. Nice touch. But we’re not here for an art show.
After a quick check in with the very friendly receptionists, we were called back almost immediately and seen by the doctor’s assistant who took all her info and shook his head at our self diagnosing. Bad internet! BAD!
He took all the details and said that the doctor would be in «shortly», turned on the television in the room and left. Yep. Here goes the waiting forever!
Nope! I swear one minute later the doctor was there. He did his doctor duties (he was both professional and funny) and informed us that no, my wife did not have walking pneumonia, but rather a simple post nasal drip situation that was causing the cough, as well as a slight ear infection probably due to not depressurizing properly from the flight. A few prescriptions later and we were on our way.
Just a couple days later, she was back in perfect health!
It’s great to have this urgent care facility in the neighborhood. It definitely beats waiting for endless hours at the hospital nearby when a regular doctor’s appointment isn’t possible!
