Established in 2011.

DJ’s Unisex is a friendly, neighborhood establishment located in the heart of Astoria, Queens.

Our mission is to provide our clients with a high-​quality service individually tailored to each customer’s needs.

We spend time getting to know each client, and that’s helped us grow a loyal following over the past 3 years.

Our goal was to bring back that friendly, warm feeling of neighborhood barbershops of the past and combine that with the technology of today’s modern upscale salons.

A few years ago when getting a haircut, I noticed that there was really a lack of community in most barber shops. Clients would come in, get their hair cut, and leave. I wanted to create a place where clients will walk in feeling as comfortable as if they were going to have a coffee with a friend. In 2011 when DJ’s Unisex first opened its doors, we never expected to grow so quickly. We now have a full team of barbers and hair stylists who share the same vision.

Have been coming here on a regular basis now for about 6 months and getting my hair cut by Fernando.
I enjoy the atmosphere and feel that I get a great cut for the price
Previously I was going elsewhere in Queens and paying double for the same end result.
Will keep coming here for the life of my hair

If you are looking for an old school barbershop with a modern feel, this is the place for you. The barbers are professional and very helpful to ensure you get the best haircut possible. While you wait, there is always great entertainment on the flat screen to keep you occupied before your cut or shave.
I personally go to Nando as my barber. I have switched many different barbers over the years, but since he was recommended by a friend, i will not go to anyone else or another shop again. Once you find a great barber, you stick with them. He is by appointment so always make sure to call or text him ahead of time. He is passionate of his craft and always striving to improve his shop. I recommend him or any of the barbers in this shop.
The shop is clean, neat, and uses the best chairs. They have top of the line hair and beard products, such as Layrite and Sauvecito, both of which i personally use at home.
You will not be disappointed with your experience at this shop. Two thumbs up and truly a 5 star establishment.

Went to See Fernando for the time after I was in the neighborhood. I have been to many barbers from the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. I can without a doubt say he is the best barber I have been to. I use to have thicker hair where I could rock any style but since my hair has thinned out I needed a barber who could handle my hair. Fernando hooked me up with a combover taper and I couldn’t be happier. The guy is a professional and is all business. I barely gave him any instructions because he knew what I wanted right away. He applied some thickening product in my hair in my hair to finish off the cut. I will definitely be going to see Fernando even if I have to commute all the way from the city. If anyone is looking for a barber who can handle all hair types Fernando is your guy

To a man, barbers can make or break your appearance and after scouting several establishments over years, I am happy to say this is THE SPOT! Fernando is a seasoned craftsmen of hair. The atmosphere, branding and service are all impeccable!

I continue to support this local barbershop because so far they never let me down. I’m always trying out new places only because the search continues to find a place that can provide you the skills of a master barber and a master stylist (scissor skills) in one human being. But I keep going back here because I need my hair buzzed more than I do my hair cut.
Try to go when it’s slow because I can’t vouch for how bad the wait is at peak times. They say you can make an appointment but so far going in super early or super late works for me.
Christian and Junior know what’s up and don’t try to bore me with empty chit chat after a long day. They pay attention to detail while they blend, buzz, and shave. I wouldn’t recommend them for scissor cuts only because no one comes here for that. Also, you can tell Fernando the owner is legit too because he’s watching to make sure everything is running smoothly in the shop while he’s buzzing clients himself. He’s continually upgrading the shop with the extra $$$ he makes.

Totally a place that caters to their regulars. If they don’t know you, you will wait, a long time… 90mins so far, plenty of people came in after me, and they’re getting cut. Lots of positive reviews here and I’m sure they cut well, but for their core customers. Do yourself a favor if you’re new, and find a spot where walk-​ins aren’t treated like they’re second-​rate. To the owners, the new people are how your business continues to grow. Treat them equally, and acknowledge them. You’ll win customers for life, instead of stagnate and lose growth potential from those trying you out.

After many attempts to find a barber to do a proper haircut, I got lucky with this shop. I initially stopped in because they sell the pomade «Suavecito“I normally order online from California.
You can tell they care about detail and their craft upon walking in and seeing the work they’ve put into decorating, and they’re still making improvements!
I am a loyal customer now because of not only the best haircut I’ve ever had, but also because of the hospitality. With two large flatscreen tv’s keeping you entertained and the good music too, you can’t help but be in a good mind set.
Lastly, the quality of chairs and products they use really offer you the best outcome. I get my hair cut and beard trimmed as often as I can, and never been let down.

One of my favorite and hands downs one of the best barbershops in NYC. It is a hidden gem (@ least for someone who isnt familiar with the neighborhood). I live in Broolyn and the communte was more than worth it. The atmosphere is unique to say the least. You can tell as soon as you walk in that there was a lot of money and time invested, which is uncommon in barbershops. The vintage seats are off the hook.
I went in for a fade and asked Fernando the barber to play around and do something different. I came out with probably the best fade I have ever gotten and a hardtop? Line on the side which I really liked. His recommendations were great.
I tried pommade in my hair and the stuff they got there is legit! I ended up having to buy one for the quality that is hard to find in a regular cvs or store.
Highly recommend this place.

They dont follow instructions well. I spent six months growing my hair and when I went in I asked if I could keep the length but just tidy up the ends. Walked out with a crew cut. The barber also got surley when I seemed disappointed with my haircut. Sorry mate only six month of my time. Also very bad Spanish music playing the whole time I was in there. Not the place to go if you’re looking for something that isn’t a cookie cutter crew cut.

I don’t really ever write reviews but I am writing this one because these guys are the best barbers I have ever been to. I got my sharpest haircut here and as long as I live in NYC I will go to them. I’m updating this cause cause I have to add something. I moved from Queens and now live in Brooklyn and I still come here. That should tell you everything you need to know.
Went twice before writing a review and I am satisfied. Place is clean and has good atmosphere, barbers take their time and are friendly. I have no complaints whatsoever.
