Based in New York City, Face Off Unlimited specializes in improvisational classes, immersive live shows and creative content development. Since 2009, Face Off Unlimited productions have and continue to entertain audiences in New York City and across the nation.

Additionally, Face Off produces live events for such corporations and organizations as The American Cancer Society, Pepsico, Bristol Myers Squibb, Con Ed, McGraw Hill Publishing, Hearst Corporation, Governor’s Schools of the Arts, New York State Bar Association, the 92nd Street Y, the Lupus Foundation of America, The American Red Cross, among many others.

Since 2014, Face Off Unlimited has established itself as a world leader in robot-​human interaction and is the chief English dialogue provider for Aldebaran Robotics (Paris, France) and Softbank (Tokyo, Japan) for their groundbreaking robots NAO and PEPPER. Today, they continue to offer their services has premier content providers.

Face Off Unlimited began as a competitive, short-​form improv show in Pt. Jefferson, New York called ‘Friday Night Face Off’ in 2003. After a few short years, FNFO became one of Long Island’s premier late-​night comedy experiences, having been called ‘Very Funny’ by the New York Times. Co-​founders Eric Robinson and Jay Painter, inspired by the ongoing success of FNFO, partnered up to create Face Off Unlimited in 2009. Shortly thereafter, a third partner, Joe Tex, joined the mix to form the creative trifecta that has since become a force in NYC’s comedy scene.

Face Off has produced a plethora of comedy shows, from current hit shows ‘BATSU!’ and ‘The 11th Hour Improv Show’, the nationally touring sensation ‘A Whole ‘Nother Level’, and other notable productions including ‘Goon River’, ‘Nads’, ‘My Friend’s Art’ and ‘Everyday Life. Veteran Face Off University students include performers from both stage and screen that continue to take the entertainment industry by storm.

I signed up for improv lessons with Face Off after attending their hit show «Batsu!» at St. Marks Place. I had no improv training, but 3 months later I was proud to call improv my primary hobby. Eric, Jay, and Joe each bring something unique to the group yet all three are very obviously masters of their craft.
While the lessons, which mostly consist of learning, practicing, and critiquing performance in short-​form games, are geared towards comedy (many students go on to perform for Face Off, myself included), these lessons are more about adopting a way of thinking and being that is responsive to the social and environmental situation one is in. They’re about being supremely present in the moment.
I haven’t taken other improv classes in the city, only because I am completely satisfied with my Face Off experience so far. If you’re looking for an effective counter to NYC jadedness, this is a good one.

Taking Improv classes with Face-​off Unlimited was one of the best life choices I ever made. I took a lot out of the experience and enjoyed it on so many levels.
Improv is all about feeling free and confident enough to totally let loose on stage with no script, and through that controlled chaos a lot of pure comedic gold is made. The exercises and games that we learned at Faceoff Unlimited all foster team work, concentration and most wonderfully of all a sense of playfulness that is priceless and that is so often smothered by the demands of NYC life.
I could not recommend taking classes with FaceOff Unlimited more highly, and look forward to coming back to classes once my schedule permits.

FaceOff is some of the best improv/​comedic training I’ve ever had. I’m a businessman by trade and what amazes me most is that the training has helped me out in the business world! By sharpening my wit and ability to think on my feet, I’m better in my daily interactions. I can think of one meeting with a client and one with my boss where I specifically said to myself «wow, thanks FaceOff»
Beyond that, the classes are a lot of fun! Highly recommend to anyone.

I have been taking improv with Face Off for a few years and I have also taken improv with a few other companies in NYC. I definitely feel that Face Off is the best. You learn a lot from the very talented teachers. If you have a lot of experience or if you have no experience, I would recommend Face Off to you because you will learn and improve in your skill.

Face Off is a family of improv performers that allows you to play and learn in a safe and fun environment, regardless of your background. You don’t have to be in a creative field to participate as your unique experiences are valuable to your contribution and in shaping your development. I work in finance, for example, and feel that improv challenges me in new ways benefitting all areas of my life. You learn to listen to others and bring out the best in each other. I joined the Face Off family 3 years ago and have had nothing but good times with them. The classes are fun and great for building skills. The teachers are all proficient and diverse. Though I don’t go as often as I’d like, the Face Off Jam at the end of each set of class session, is always a hoot and a half. I plan to take more classes with them in the near future and would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to learn/​improve improv skills or just feel more at home on stage.

I’ve had the pleasure of taking a few classes from Face Off, and what an experience that was! The instructors are ALL wonderful and are the most encouraging. Everyone works in a safe environment which makes it that much easier to tap into your imagination and explore more. They also have various shows in which the instructors and others perform, such as BATSU which is a MUST SEEEEEEEE!!! I’m excited to continue my training with them and encourage any actor, public speaker, or anyone just looking for something fun to do to take these classes!

Extremely talented group of performers that fosters, develops and embraces creativity from its members. Even after just one round of classes, it’s easy to appreciate the familial environment. It’s a safe place where ideas are shared and enhanced rather than criticized.
Highly recommended to experience one of their performances for a little insight into their quick wit, they always seem to play to the height of their intelligence, challenging the audience to stay attuned and engaged.
