Horrible, horrible. Worst night of my life was when I came here for my friend 19th birthday party. The crowd is immature and way too loud, like exaggerating. The service is awful and they dont even refill your hookahs. They charge you $ 20! For an awful experience. I do not recommend this place !

Horrible place, first off they ask for a 20 dollar per person charge at the door, they can’t mix drinks for shit, drinks are expensive, hookah is unlimited but shitty, seating is horrible, this place should just close down seriously. No Tvs, please close down.

Worst place ever. $ 20 per person. before you even sit. are you kidding? I was going in for a bday party just to say hi. They made me go outside because I wasn’t willing to pay, the most annoying place ever. Under age kids all over, people are just shitty. Now I get why they’re rating is so bad. Cheaper and better places all over the block.

I came here twice with a guy im talking to and its an ok place. The hookah at first takes forever to come to ur table and the place is a little shady. However, the music is awesome. They play all types of musc which I love. Admission is $ 15 and u get unlimited hookah. Its one of the cheapest places on steinway, but a lot of young people come here. I mostly come for the music and party atmosphere.

Oh my goddess. Why did we do that?! My roomie and I decided to leave our sweltering basement apartment and check out one of Steinway’s superfluous hookah joints. We went in this hell hole because we could hear music from the sidewalk through the door. MISTAKE. We were nearly knocked down deaf once the door was opened by an old man who I believe is the owner. He wouldn’t let us in until we gave him $ 20 for the hookah, whose flavor we had no choice in. I told, «I want to sit down and be treated like a lady, thank you very much!» Why didn’t I just grab my friend and bounce??? Whatever… «What do you have to drink?» «Nice beers and wines!» «I’ll have a glass of white.» (Confused look from server boy, who, as we found out later, is too young to be serving booze) «You want a bottle of white, yeah?» «No, a glass. F*ck it. What beers have you got?» «Bud, Corona, *something unintelligible*» (None of those are nice beers to a connoisseur, silly…) Sippin’ $ 5 Coronas on a busted ass«Welcome to the Johnson’s» type couch, awaiting our very special hookah(which actually, was really good. Flavor? I’ll never go back to ask…) And then, there were children… Have you ever been to a club for the 18& younger crowd? Well, sure, maybe when you were 18 and younger… I’m 27! Damn… Two kids making out on a couch not 15′ away from us, if you can call heavy petting«making out.» I’m pretty sure she was satisfied with her order of «Grope me quick! My mom said I need to be home by 11pm» and side of «I wanna come before I go.» Two other girls who looked like they were giving life one last chance, and two boys who were friends with Server-boy/DJ… Lordy, but they were too much! One was 17, the other, 20. We let them smoke with us because it seemed that they were put in the laser filled, noise dungeon for our express amusement. $ 40 later, we stumbled back into the street, half out of breath from laughing and dancing(thank goodness we started the party at home!), vowing to return to the comedy club, I mean, hookah«lounge» tomorrow, for another good laugh. Needless to say, drunks say the stupidest shit. We woke up the next morning, looked at each other and said, «Heeeeellllll nah!» P. S. The one star is not only because I can’t give zero stars, but also because DJ Server had his own bottle tucked away somewhere in his Transformers backpack and offered us shots. Nice kid…

Being in this establishment was my personal version of Hell. For my friend’s birthday, we decided to hit up a new hookah bar. Since she has friends that live in Astoria, we wanted to head to Queens and potentially meet up with them. Her younger sister suggested Jour et Nuit, saying she had gone there before and«had an amazing time». This should have been my first warning sign. Parking was a nightmare, but what can you expect from NYC? After that half-an-hour-plus ordeal, we spent about ten minutes trying to get into this hole because the«bouncer» didn’t trust our IDs. Once he had established the fact that we were over 18, he then took another ten minutes to get us change from our cover charge while he simultaneously let in about 30 children who didn’t look to be over 16WITHOUT any valid IDs. Said children then proceeded to turn the place into a mobscene and essentially impregnate each other on the dance floor. Luckily the cover charge that we paid included a hookah for the table. I went over to the bar and had the following exchange. Barkeep: What type of tobacco would you like? Sam: What flavors do you have? Barkeep: Chocolate. Sam: …anything else? Barkeep: No. Sam: I guess I don’t have much of a choice then. We got the hookah, which turned out to be another poor decision because the coal kept going out and there were no servers in sight to replace it. We resorted to relighting it ourselves several times. The venue was dark so I couldn’t tell what my surroundings really looked like, but I think it’s safe to assume that they were unimpressive. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. The music was so loud that conversation was impossible, but unnecessary since we spent most of our time there staring in awe at the obscene dancing going on(I’m not just talking about bumping and grinding here — if I were one of the underage girls at this place, I would have filed sexual assault charges). To top it all off, there was NOALCOHOL. ATALL. In fact, when I asked to see a drink list, the bartender LAUGHEDATME. We were there for about 45 minutes. 45 minutes that I will never get back, or be able to erase from my memory. If you are a hookah fan, AVOIDTHISPLACEATALLCOSTS. Actually, just avoid it if you don’t want to get an STD.

A really crappy place. Not because of the place itself, but the crowd that I’ve seen it attract. Trashy young kids. I’m 19, so I’m young too but kids there were 15 – 21 and dancing terribly(just grinding). I’ve been there twice, both the same thing. the music was too loud and the place was dirty(probably the kids fault)…but then again the kitchen didn’t seem too clean either. Not classy(if you don’t mind that stuff, go ahead.) it’s just not my crowd.

Went here on a Saturday night with my 18 year old sister and a friend of mine(we are both 31) and we(all of us) were shocked at what we found given the other reviews I had read. The place was overrun with 18 and under kids and maybe a few under 21 but it was crazypants. The music was very loud, the laser show was nearly blinding and the crazy bumping and grinding that was happening next to us, and on our table was just odd. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not some oldie who can’t have a good time, I just was not expecting this at all. Nor was I expecting it to be 15/person, I’m kinda use to paying per hookah.(Maybe this should have been a sign) We got there around 845 or so, and around 930 they turned on the lights and made some announcement about 1045 and that people better not just hang out outside cause the cops would be there — I guess there is some sort of curfew in Astoria or something? My buddy went up and asked for a second hookah and when he did the guy at the bar asked him if he wanted a drink. OFCOURSE! Otherwise how were we going to tolerate this any longer. He talked a bit more with the guys there and they explained that after midnight the crowd changes quite a bit and its a bit more chill, I may have to check that out sometime, but given just how many hookah bars there are in that area I may not be able to justify trying this place again. Maybe I was just super off timing wise, but if you want a chill hookah and hanging out experience this might not be the place for you.

tonight was my second trip to jour et nuit, and i can truly say that i’m smitten. as one of the few hookah bars on steinway that actually serves alcohol(and cheaper than melody across the street), jour et nuit already has a leg up on the competition. combine this with the fact that the wine list is both(relatively) long and also affordable, and you’ve got a real winner. the hookah flavors are intriguing and seemingly endless, and they allow you to mix flavors as you choose — i HIGHLY recommend the melon-peach. they always last for well over an hour, and often hit so smoothly that you don’t even realize there’s tobacco. what truly makes this place a cut above the rest is the service. the owner is in every night and is by far the friendliest business owner i’ve encountered in astoria(and there are a lot of friendly ones here). he’s always been incredibly welcoming and accommodating to my crew, including opening the kitchen back up specifically for us when we told him we were hungry at 2:30 am… on our very first visit to the restaurant. tonight he told us that the kitchen was closed, but offered to walk across the street to the halal truck for us if we got hungry. seriously — that is top class service. oh, and did i mention that he used to be donald trump’s personal chef? yeah, it’s true, and he manages to stay very modest about it. truly a hidden gem in astoria — when you’re walking up and down steinway looking for hookah, do yourself a favor and pop in to jour et nuit. i can pretty much guarantee you’ll stay for hours longer than you’d planned.

I really liked this place when it first opened; it’s one of the very few places I’ve found in New York where you can get both reasonably-priced and reasonably-authentic Moroccan food. However, the last couple times I’ve been there, it’s been run over by young kids who are blasting really crappy music at nightclub-decibel levels. I live only a few blocks away but will not be back until it becomes a place for grownups again.

Jour et Nuit simmers with a lot of potential. They serve an excellent lamb tagine, falling-off-the bone tenderness and tasty. That is the only thing I eat at Jour et Nuit. However, the place needs some cleaning up especially since when you enter, you pass by the kitchen which is in front of the restaurant. Oh, we had tea after the meal and it was heavenly. Then we tried the hookah and liked it. During the nights that we dined here, there was a belly-dancer and the men and women dining also joined the dancing. It was fun! As I’ve said, this place has a lot of potential and I do hope Najib will enhance the cleanliness and service of Jour et Nuit.

True, it can attract an odd crowd, but I have a hard time holding this against the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, even romantic. It’s a small operation — and about as gourmet as Steinway gets(save Kebab Café). The owner/chef, Najib, is incredibly friendly and attentive. He serves only one type of dessert every night, and it rotates throughout the month, so you never quite know what he’ll have waiting for you! In terms of the hookah, Najib serves excellent shisha. Good hookah is easy to find on Steinway, but something about Najib’s is just superb… and never a let down. His pipes are a little more expensive than the cheapest cafés on Steinway, but in my opinion the quality is worth it. I think his wine might be slightly overpriced [by the bottle], but the his selection is nice. It compliments his menu and usually goes well with the smoke! Once in a while you’ll even catch live music and bellydancers on the weekend… can’t beat that! If you have never had Moroccan food before, I would recommend the Combination Appetizer, a simple mix of cold salads which are excellent for topping warm pita.

Well, my most recent experience has done it for me. I went on a Saturday night. The«buffet» was gross — though cheap — and some clearly under-age kids in the restaurant were taking over the music, playing loud, really old and bad rap music. A so-so bottle of white wine was $ 30. If I ever eat here again, it’ll definitely be take-out. On the other hand, it seems like one of the few places in Astoria that serves alcohol and hookah. :-\

There was music and it was a very cozy atmosphere. The wine was reasonably priced and for the someone who never had Moroccan food before, the Kafta Brochette was great. It was a unique dish. The portions, price and service were great. The hookahs were fun as well.

Authentic Moroccan food in the heart of the Little Egypt in Astoria. If you like couscous you should try it with the lamb tagine., as this is one of the most typical dishes of North Africa. The harira is also delicious and the mint tea is heavenly(no one makes it like the Moroccans), One warning for the ladies… this is a traditional place and I would go with a group of friends or with a guy, just to avoid the uncomfortable stares… Steinway, above 30th avenue, is the man’s world… Got me!?!

Don’t be dissuaded by the fast food looking entry way at jour et nuit. This place is separated into two distinct areas, the day(jour) area for quick eats, and the nuit(night) area for delicious french moroccan cuisine in a romantic atmosphere. The nuit section has an extensive menu and is tended to by very attentive an friendly staff. The food is tasty and unique. Totally worth a try.
