Mama’s New York Ices & Ice Cream

I really love this local ice cream shop. The staff is always friendly. They have a good selection of all your standard flavors plus a few interesting combinations. Their cookies and cream is so delicious! I haven’t tried their ices yet but they look yummy. My only complaint is that there really isn’t much seating inside. But the ice cream is great and prices are reasonable!

A middling seasonal ice cream and ice stand. It’s good because its on the way to astoria park and is cheap. Quality of the flavors leaves a lot to be desired, but well, it’s sort of a place for Kids in Queens. It neither wants to be nor is van leuwen, or anything like that.

Was excited to learn about this new to me ices shop. When I arrived at 9:00 PM there was a sign on the front door that said «Window». Weird. So we cannot go inside? My friend and I ordered thru the window and sat in the chairs that were in front of the window. A few minutes after receiving our ices the outside lights were turned off. They were closing? We sat there for a few more minutes until they came out to get the chairs. While we were sitting there at least 3 other patron walked up and were disappointed to find them closed. They should either change the posted open hours or start staying open until posted time. They have a responsibility to there customers and should consider the impact that they are having by something that can easily be fixed.
As for the ices, standard italian ice, got lemon and lime, both were good.

I loved this place. But the last two times I went while they were supposed to be open they weren’t. Well actually this last time just now the open sign was bright and flashing but the two teenage girls inside made it their mission to ignore me standing at the window. They talked to each other, played on their phones, went in the back room. It was obvious they knew I was there after a couple of minutes. I don’t care that they closed early last time because the lights were out and it was obvious they were closed so whatever a little bummed but no biggie. But if you’re just not serving customers because you’re f-​ing lazy at least turn off the OPEN sign and have the decency to come to the f-​ing window and say «Sorry we’re closing a little early tonight and forgot to turn off the sign» or something then I’d be like «oh well I understand, it’s fine.» I used to work in an ice cream store when I was teenager too and yeah it’s a little annoying when customers come close to closing but I sucked it up and did my f-​ing job with a smile on my face because we were still open and oh yeah it’s part of the f-​ing job.

Whether you are heading to the Astoria Park Pool or just because its hot outside and you wanted ice cream on your way to the Bohemian Beer Garden. I can think up a million reasons to stop for homemade ice cream.
Mama’s makes all of it’s ice cream on premises and is always introducing new and delicious flavors. I recently tried the chocolate jelly ring candy flavor. It was not only the first time I had ever seen such an amazing combination, but seriously tasty.
The prices are very reasonable and the staff is always really nice, even when I ask to try a million flavors.
Go before the summer is over! It is only open seasonally.

Memo to Mama’s: posting a handwritten sign on your front door proclaiming that you will be open «very soon» and NOT PROVIDING A DATE makes your fans cranky. And hangry. I want my peanut butter cup chocolate ice cream!

Meh. I was disappointed. However, that may be my own fault for ordering an ice cream, when this place seems to specialize in Italian Ices. The ice cream was too sweet, methinks. Didn’t think that was possible for ice cream? Neither did I. Also, the pistacchio nuts were too soft. a bit soggy, even. So that wasn’t so fun. I’ll probably give the place another whirl sometime, and get an ice instead of an ice cream, but I’m not sure I’ll be back for the ice cream itself. Which makes me sad, actually, because this place is right around the corner, and I would’ve LOVED to get ice cream from them frequently.

Maybe that’s the real market price as I’m so spoiled by an Icecream cart in the park. But for what it is I felt a little overpriced.
Service was fast, and owner is nice dude. But I just didn’t see it as my kinda Icecream.

The Piña colada ice here is awesome, this place is right up there with Ralph’s with less flavors.
For 2.75 you get basically three good scopes of yummy ice, the best part was that it had pieces of coconut in it.
I am definitely coming back here before the summer ends.

We just moved to Astoria, and as we were walking around our neighborhood, we noticed this cute little ice cream shop just around the corner from our new digs. We agreed that once we were done unpacking, we’d stop in and treat ourselves to an Italian ice. The next day, we FINALLY unpacked our last boxes, and stopped by. Boy oh boy were our eyes HUGE! They have a ridiculous amount of flavors of Italian ice… close to 40. And the ice cream looked pretty darn good too!
As we tried to figure out what flavors we wanted, the super friendly guy behind the counter said that we could sample any flavor we wanted. I was torn between the piña colada and the mango. The guy said that if you order a small cup (which, by the way, is ONLY $ 2.50!!!), you actually get to pick two flavors. We settled into the plastic chairs out on the sidewalk, and dug in. The taste and boldness of the flavors were absolutely delicious and refreshing! Plus, they make everything on site! We’ve gone back once or twice a week since then… I thought for sure with all the walking we’ve been doing we’d lose a few pounds, but having this place just around the corner from us, now I’m not so sure… :)

Mama’s Ices is a great place to come to – and I’m not ashamed I went there 4 – 5 times in 3 weeks. It has a wide variety of ices and ice creams, all of which are delicious and well made, with the ices being crafted on location. From old standards to more unusual and delicious flavors like raspberry chocolate truffle or «blue,» everything will more than adequately sate your sweet tooth. Everything is also very affordable, with two scoops of ice cream being $ 3.25.
The location is small and relatively bleak but the outside is vibrant and makes you feel welcome. The service is friendly and seem to understand if, like me, you have a bit of an addiction.
If you haven’t been here yet and you live in Astoria, it’s definitely worth the trip.

I think this is the only ‘mom and pop’ ice cream shop in the area. Pretty decent… they’ve definitely got some interesting flavor options, but I’m not willing to give it the «I’m fat and love ice cream» seal of approval yet.
I’d say they’ve got flavor down for sure, but the ice cream is just a little bit too hard right now. (Erection Joke!)

Fantastic! From the rainbow awning, which makes it feel like a real «old fashioned» ice cream parlor, to the flavors and the friendly employees, this place has it all. They make their own ice and I think they make the ice cream, too. The red velvet cake was to die for, but I have yet to try all of the flavors. Although, the employees assured me that I could try them all if I wanted (and they have quite a selection – including a flavor called «blue»). The prices are pretty reasonable, but they only have small, large, pints and quarts, but I don’t know why you’d order a small.

This is a new ice cream shop that has opened up on a quiet street on 24^th Avenue. Very close to the beer garden, it’s super easy to walk by this place without noticing it. The owner was super friendly and they make all of the Italian ices themselves and a few ice cream products. As they start kicking up production they will soon have everything made in house. I tried their watermelon ice and it was really a delicious treat and for $ 2.50 for a small cup, I couldn’t be happier. Definitely stop on by, try a few flavors and buy cup. If their other flavors are as good as the watermelon, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

This place is wonderful! So many flavors, such reasonable prices, and super friendly employees every time I’ve been there! And they are open late in the evenings too, perfect for dessert when you are walking back from a restaurant, or coming home from a bar.
It’s great to have a place like this in the neighborhood, I hope they do well so they can stick around for many years. Especially perfect for people who are lactose intolerant or have dairy allergies, because you can come here and have an Italian ice while your dairy-​eating friends get ice cream, if they choose :)

My sister, Dawn K., told me that Mama’s was better than Ralph’s. As the great Barney Stinson would say, «Challenge Accepted!» After a great brunch at LIC Market, we headed over for a taste.
I have to say that Ralph’s is still better, not by a mile. First of all, its a little confusing to not list which ices are water and which are cream. They do have a ton of good flavors and the store looks just like… wait for it… Ralph’s. Fortunately for Yo Mamas, there isn’t a local Ralph’s so I’ll be going quite frequently.

When I saw this was opening I got very excited, the area needed an ice cream shop. Everything is made on the premises and is really delicious. They let me taste as many of the ices as I wanted, all were great. The beat part is, a small which includes 3 flavours is only $ 2.50. You can’t beat that.
