Masjid Al-Iman

I had a VERY bad experience at this mosque. The women had me thrown out. Not for something that happened inside the mosque but basically they didn’t like me so when I came inside to pray they decided they didn’t want me there so even though I didn’t do anything in the mosque but come inside to pray (and it was Ramadan) they called the police and the police said please do not enter again. So I had no choice not to enter again. I have no words for women who have a personal problem with someone and they say she cant come in a religious building because of it it is not their home. And sadly the men and Imam did nothing. BTW I heard later from others that this mosque is poorly run. Lots of problems within the mosque on how they manage things such as money and treat people. Doesn’t surprise me. They also have security there. What mosque needs a «bouncer»!!!Strange place.

I didn’t just give 5 stars because it’s a mosque, *like every other Muslim Unilocaler* but because the mosque actually deserves the rating. I’ve been going here for many years and I can tell you, they serve the best in-​mosque Iftar in NYC, hands down! For a small urban style mosque in busy Astoria, they manage to have enough dates and fruits to please the elderly and freshly baked baklava for the kids. After breaking my fast, they held the Maghrib prayers/​one of the 5 daily prayers in Islam…
After prayer, a brigade of little kids started handing out something similar to a bento box. I was ecstatic to find a but-​load of rice, a side of okra curry, salad, and a giant baked chicken leg. Chicken was tender and okra was sweet and savory. All in all, a pretty damn good meal, even better cuz its free!
