This place is incredible. It is an authentic Romanian butchery/​dried meat shop. We went on a Saturday morning, and he place was packed. We actually ended up having to wait about half an hour to be waited on, but it was totally worth it. There are tons of different kind of sausages, sliced meats, and fried treats. As we were waiting, the put out a steaming slab of pork belly that we had to try! It was to die for! Everything we got was super tasty and some were verrrry interesting! My favorite might be the duck prosciutto! We left the shop smelling smokey with tons of treats in hand! Can’t wait to visit this place again on my next trip to Astoria!

Visiting NYC for the weekend and figured I’d try one of those famous butchers Shop. So I found this spot on Unilocal and boy I was not disappointed. Just like the Pics you see from others, as soon as you walk in you’ll see all these meats just hanging there. The owner kept offering me samples of all these meats… you might think he is just offering you samples in hopes that you’ll buy what samples he is offering, but honestly he is just a good dude who offers great meats and is happy to share with you in something he loves… really a cool cat! all the staff were very helpful and it was just an awesome sight to see. I will come back to NYC if for nothing else only to stock up on more meats.

Hands down the reason I love New York and why I am unwilling to leave Queens. It’s just beautiful. The food here is something that I truly love and enjoy, and it makes my life feel whole. Yes, it is that good. If you like «charcuterie,“meat, or just life general, you have to come here and try the food at least once. I assure you that the food is leaps and bounds (galaxies) better than your typical grocery store butcher/​deli selection. Worth any trip.
For smoked/​cured meats, I often order the spicy head cheese, homemade prosciutto, kulen, double –smoked bacon, and spicy Hungarian sausage. For meat to prepare, I order cevapi and smoked pork loin. Those are my standbys, but honestly I usually point at and order whatever looks good, even if I am unsure of its name. I definitely found some amazing food that way. I feel like you could order anything from this store and you could like something more or less than another product, but you could not find something that you dislike.
For those curious, the owners/​workers are mostly Romanian, Serbian, or Croatian. Andrew Zimmer’s Bizarre Food’s «Queens» episodes highlighted the store owner’s origins and how they prepare the food. It also sells a small, but well curated selection of Baltic/​Eastern European packaged foods/​drinks.
Note to the wise, it is mostly pork, so if you have dietary restrictions please tell the servers. They still have great beef, lamb, or bird (chicken/​duck/​geese/​turkey) selections of smoked, dried, cured meat.
I just need this store and its food to go on forever.

I know about this place because my boyfriend is Romanian and this where his family shops for meat, sausages. And cheese and other imported items from their home land. It is extremely clean in this place, the staff is incredibly helpful. The meat is cured by them so they insure the best quality. They also let you sample before you buy.

Well folks, there are good places, there are great places, and then there are rare places like this that just get everything so right. First they are masters of their trade which in the world of dried/​aged/​cured/​smoked meats is such an art form.
Second they get the customer service oh so right. I drove close to two hours to visit this place from NJ and by the time i got there i was a little overwhelmed. Being a gringo from Arizona who is no expert on even identifying most of the foods here i just looked up and a nice guy from behind the counter picked up on the clues. «Where are you from and how did you hear about us.» From there he walked us through everything. Sample after sample trying new and killer foods. The first being their pork crackins which were so good and still warm. I never felt rushed or too needy and nothing but smiles and great attitude from the people there.
There were no prices posted so i was a little worried i was going to get yanked but all of the prices ended up being very reasonable and i was pleasantly surprised with the bill. So far everything we had had there has been exceptional. I cannot speak higher of a place and i would drive 2 hours to come back every time i visit Jersey.

I am not a big fan of cold cuts given their health considerations. However, from time to time I indulge and will only consume the finest gastronomic products. After learning about Muncan from cable food channels as well as friends who live in Astoria, I decided to go. I am glad I did. The quality of their homemade offering are only surpassed by the outstanding education of the persons who serve you. The owner greets you as if you are in Europe, and the European server was educated enough to recognize where my name could have originated from and then when I told him my parents were from a small Latin American nation, he knew the capital city. Not to mention how he insisted on getting me a cold bottle of Bitter Lemon after he noted I took one that was lukewarm. Total class and I look forward to returning.

Honestly, Unilocal should have a Six Star category for places like this.
Been here three times in the last three months. Every time a stellar experience with beyond amazing meats.
They don’t know me from Adam, but every time I get treated royally. Best customer service I’ve experienced in any industry in years. They know their stuff, and if you get a young guy who doesn’t, he asks someone. They work hard to try and find the right flavors for you, backed up by samples.
I’m not sure what country they are from (Poland, maybe, or Salamislovakia?), but the place has usually got locals speaking in a slavic language, who know what they want. I always ask what other people ordered, and it all looks so good and interesting.
The house smoked bacon is incredible. Lay out a slice or two in the kitchen for 15 minutes and your house will smell like Sunday morning breakfast. Make sure to ask to have the rind removed before they slice it.
You will become addicted. So many different kinds of meats and treatments, from the unbelievable duck proscuitto, to jalapeño sausage, to many meats I can’t pronounce; I just point, taste, and say, «Yup, throw one of those in!».
Word of advice: Tell yourself you will go back again before you go. Otherwise, you will buy too much the first time.
Makes me want to move to Astoria.

Great meats at this place. I love their made in-​house ham and sausages. All of their stuff is pretty fresh, and their prices are very reasonable.

My friends have recommended this shop to me so I stopped in yesterday for the first time. The owners is very nice and the employees are very helpful. I will be back again!

It’s official. They’re friendly, everything is delicious and it is very reasonably priced. I can’t imagine why you would buy cold cuts, bacon, cured meat or sausage anywhere else if you lived near here.

This place is an absolute blessing. The service is impeccable, and the staff will let you try any of their meats for free. And what meat selection! If you can think of it, Muncan will have it. I particularly recommend their sausages, and the chicharron was superb — crispy exterior, juicy pork in the center. If you ever have people over who appreciate delicious cuts, this is the place to go.

Waking up and frantically realizing I had to get a christmas gift for the family gourmand, I found this place on Unilocal (reasonably close from the UES) and came with a loose-​ish shopping list and about $ 35.
I had high expectations (another reviewer pointed me towards the $ 8.50 a pound lamb prosciutto) and Muncan’s exceeded them. From the moment I walked in and saw the three levels of cured meat hanging from the ceiling, the 10 types of salted bacon, and the sausages from all part of the Balkans.
The staff was very helpful and accommodating of my indecision. I ended up getting some pancetta, some njeguska sausage (which is similar to a spicy chorizo in flavor), and lamb prosciutto. All of them were smash hits; impressive for what I assume is a mostly made-​in-​house selection. I’m going to go back, it’s a question of when. And how much sausage I can fit on the train.

Push the door open and you are immediately greeted by the delicious aromas of the finely cured meats and deli products.
This place takes you back through time! There are smoked legs, cured meats, head cheese, sausages, bacons… You name it they got it and they are soooooo delicious!!!
Been there twice now, owner is always there, he is very Friendly and welcoming. Their meats are tradition and to die for.
I have had their sausages with wine. Their headcheese, their garlic smoked bacon, smoked bacon … All are soooo delicious!
I have just bought some of their duck prosciutto and can’t wait to try it!
Worth mentioning: while you are there, make sure to get some of their fried chicharons! OMG the best ever!!!

Muncan is at least a jewel of Astoria, if not pure gold. The smell makes you smile when you walk in the door. Their selection is incredible, prices are reasonable, service is friendly, and quality is unbeatable. Some things that I purchase almost every visit are the duck pastrami (butter), pork rinds (best in NYC), and vacuum packed smoked and spiced raw sausage. The sausage is amazing on the grill, or as a starter to clams or mussels! Don’t miss some of the mustards and spreads they carry!

Meat Mecca. The smell of the cured meats as you walk in is absolutely overwhelming. The selection is overwhelming, But fortunately, the service is very friendly and quick. Take a number when you walk in and they’ll serve you soon.
Unfortunately, the sheer number of choices overwhelmed me, and I only picked up some chicarones and the tarska bacon. Both were excellent. The chicharones were not too oily, not too salty. The tarska bacon was very flavorful, with interesting texture contrast between the outside and the tender insides. You could even detect the metallic taste of blood on the outer area of the strips.
Picked up a bottle of Elderberry Fanta on my way out too. It’s unfortunate that this is so far out of my way.

My father is somewhat of a meat-​shop connoisseur and has toured the West Coast looking for authentic and unique carnivore experiences. He also watches the food channel and whenever they feature something interesting in my neck of the woods, he passes it along.
This is how I came upon Muncan Food Corp and boy do I owe my dad for this one! Tracking down the shop in Astoria, opening the door, my mouth immediately started to water. Dried, cured and freshly prepared meats of all shapes, sizes, flavors and animals hung around in a dizzying array of delicious scents.
Not only was their selection impressive, they are all house made AND the staff were incredibly friendly and generous offering us a taste of whatever caught our interest. My boyfriend was in heaven and I think they have just found themselves a couple new regular customers despite living in Brooklyn — the trip is worth it!

Calling all Fat Kids and closet fat kids near and far. I have found a meat paradise of epic proportions. A feast for your eyes to see… and your stomach to consume. In a small shop on Broadway in Astoria lies a shrine to all things cured and smoked. The name of this wonderland is Muncan Food Corp and it is good. Very good my friends.
On my first visit I stood with my mouth agape marveling at the endless smoked delights. They specialize in many Eastern European treats and 19 different types of bacon. You heard me correct 19 DIFFERENT TYPES OF BACON!!! Row after row, case after case revealed mass deliciousness, one better than the next.
While I have no doubt in my mind that every single thing there would garner this place a 5 star review, you would do well to try the following: The signature double smoked bacon, The Istrian Bacon and The garlic crusted bacon roll. The also make a killer hunter sausage that has chucks of meat instead of it being ground up. And for the adventurous there’s the lamb prosciutto, duck pastrami and the smoked pork neck.
This is a great family owned shop with an outstanding staff that are more than willing to tell you about all of their great products that are all house made and better yet, let you taste a few.
I am proud to say that I have added one more entry to my favorite places on earth list.
