Tu Casa Restaurant

We order from Tu Casa on average, once a week. Great food! — consistent for the last 3 years that I’ve been in Astoria. I’ve only eaten at the restaurant a couple times, so i can’t speak to the in-​house service, but the delivery guys are cool (also, consistent since I’ve been ordering from them, which is a good thing). Thanks Tu Casa!

So this review is half and half. Have awesome and half dissapointed. We got the parihuela soup and arroz chaufa con carne, delivered. The fried rice was out of this world and the green sause that went with it was amezing. Definitely order an extra. worth the 50 cent. But the soup, although the base was tasty, most the fish was chewy and the amount! I got the tineyiest little bowl of soup for $ 10. Like the small $ 3 bowls from chineses take out. Granted it was tasty and it had one shrimp, one mussle, some calarmi and cuncks of fish, it just seems overpriced for the amount of soup you received. This is why this place only gets 4 of 5 starts. Rice is good.

I also had the chaufa de pollo and of course their green sauce. Definitely coming back here.

I have such mixed feelings about Tu Casa,
My fiancée and friends all love the entrees here. We usually get the skirt steak, a salad, a half chicken and some apps to all split. In never being disappointed in the food I cannot give too poor of a review. However, the service is sometimes a little on the slower side and I have a hard time communicating with them. the lack of communication lead to the wrong order on two occasions. Nevertheless, the food was delicious.
I like that they are also on
for when I don’t feel like leaving home to get a little steak salad.
The best drink by far, if you’re a fan of coconut, is the Besame!

Pernil is pretty tasty, will definitely become one of my go to lunch spots.

Ordered pernil with moro rice lunch special. Bland and flavorless. If your Spanish you definitely know this is not it .rice was hard was microwaved to make warm from being cooked a previous day. Pernil had no seasoning. Smh. Never again.

I went for lunch and had the bistec encebollado with rice, plantains and beans all for $ 11.99!!! The food was amazing too. The beans had an excellent flavor (I’m Colombian-​Cuban and am very picky about beans). Would definitely recommend this place!

This place has a great service .this is my third time here… the food is delicious and the mojitos and sangria are amazing… you have to try it;-)

This isn’t my first time here… now all of the sudden the free margarita check-​in on Unilocal is only one per table. I told the person who claims to be the manager, it doesn’t say that here, he said well it should, and that’s how he does things.

Average food + ditzy service = worth a pass.
What was effective here: the papas a la huancaina, boiled potatoes in a spicy creamy sauce. It’s a simple dish but it was still flavorful, as the sauce does a lot of the heavy lifting. I enjoyed my rice and beans, as well as the tostones (fried plantains), though the latter could have used a sprinkling of salt after they finished frying.
The rotisserie chicken (pollo a la brasa) was a big disappointment. It was very dry on the inside. Although the chicken skin was crispy, it was not infused with any spices or real flavors. The spicy green sauce and garlic aioli do help, but considering pollo a la brasa is one of their specialties I was not impressed. At $ 13 for a half chicken with rice and beans, it’s not a terrible price.
Our food took a long time to come out and our waitress did not ever come through to give us updates, or even to thank us for waiting. We got no regular water refills. Even getting extra plates for splitting our dishes was a challenge. I think the restaurant had only one waitress for the area we were sitting in, but she was not enthusiastic. At one point, she started dancing with another waiter rather than pick up our check…

Strictly come here for the happy hour. Drinks are STRONG and CHEAP M-​F 3−7pm. Margaritas and mojitos $ 4 sangria $ 5 I believe and any regular drinks are half off but still kinda expensive. Friend ordered the tu casa drink for $ 8 but it was really strong like straight liquor so you get your money’s worth.
Best happy hour ever. Warning though the food is expensive because this is a pretty nice restaurant but it is delicious. We ordered the epinadas, calamari, grilled chicken over pesto, and chorizo sausage all of which were so good. I recommend.

Delicious food, great service, and romantic back room with plenty of seating. Perfect for large group or date night.

I went there on a Saturday afternoon and its right there on the steinway strip. I liked the ambiance of the place as it had open windows and a very open all natural light environment. I ordered the rotisserie chicken with a side of avacado and moduros (sweet plantains) moduros were great and the chicken was also good. I also tried their breaded steak a little and I think next time i go im gonna order that. It was simply delicious! The waitress was friendly and patient as we took some time deciding and had some questions

Came for dinner and the food was amazing. Drinks where on point. Good music and nice décor. Can’t wait to come back!

So I have had two separate experiences with Tu Casa. One in house and one through delivery. The first was delivery, it wasn’t bad. It just… was mediocre. The food was alright.
As a result, I wasn’t pounding the pavement to dine here. However, my boyfriend is Colombian and he really wanted some Latin food one Saturday night. I have friends that swear by Tu Casa, so I said hey, everyone deserves a second chance.
My goodness, I am so happy we gave it a second chance. My BF was of course in his heaven. There was live music, the waitresses were bilingual, the food was familiar. That alone was enough. I forget our waitresses name, but she was a doll. So sweet, and went out of her way to speak english to me and spanish to him. I really appreciated that. She also gave us some (honest) recommendations for bars to go to after. I live in Astoria and am very familiar with the area but not as familiar with more of the latino bars that he would be interested in. Thanks again!
Now onto the best part… THE FOOD! For the record, the sauces on the table… i could drink them, they are so good. The BF got chicken, rice, beans, salad, and plantains. He gave me tastes of everything and it was delicious. The chicken was perfection. I had the ceviche and it stands out as the best ceviche I have ever had. What a dream. I had the white sangria, it was very good but also sweet (which wasn’t an issue for me). I already know we will be back here on a regular basis and I am excited to check out the rest of the menu.
As for the delivery experience? I honestly am not sure. It could be a place that’s food is better in house or maybe we just caught them on an off day for delivery. Either way, a second change goes a long way.

Nothing is more satisfying than a big plate of food after a long day in the sun. That’s what brought me to Tu Casa, as well as the recommendation from a couple of friends. It was quite loud when I went since they had someone playing the guitar and singing. I don’t have anything against live performances in restaurants but volume level is important. As for the food, I ordered the Bistec Tu Casa, or as I prefer to call it, The Fat Kid Plate. It’s got your greatest hits on the plate: grilled steak, chicharrón, chorizo, rice and beans, a fried egg, and maduro. Other than the chicharrón having barely any meat on it, everything was good. The most important thing to remember when going to Tu Casa is to douse everything in the sauces provided, especially the green sauce.

The food is consistently fresh and made to order. From seafood, to the skirt steak to my fave, the rotisserie chicken, it’s spot on whether dining in or delivery. I do both.
Today– post gym workout. Too hot to cook. Ordered from their NEW lunch menu! (excited) chic with Maduros and salad! And a sangria cause it’s that good. Watching the game and enjoying my meal. what a great afternoon!

Ive been fan of Tu Casa for a long time. This place gets it right everytime. The food is tasty and flavorful, and I last tried the seafood stew and ate every bit. The service is great and not to mention im addicted to the green sauce! Five stars in my book.

This place was absolutely incredible!!! My boyfriend and I were craving some Latin Food for our Anniversary dinner and this place blew us away. The mix of textures in our dishes were perfect. He had the pernil, yellow rice and beans. I had the tacu tacu. The flan was to die for. It’s one of the desserts I’m most critical off, but this recipe is incredible!
We’ve had a couple of stressful weeks and the second we walked in we felt bliss. The ambience was so relaxing. We felt twice as fortunate because there was awesome live music, the Mary Mandolin duo. As a Latina and singer I’m extremely picky in these kind of situations but I was extremely pleased. My boyfriend and I stayed until closing just to hear them play.
The only reason I give it 4 star is because I have yet to try their drinks, which I’m sure will be wonderful as well. We are so excited to bring our family and friends here!
