Window World of The Central Coast

My old aluminum windows are 34 years old and needed to be replaced. They are in bad shape. First I checked with our local mirror and glass place and the estimate for the new aluminum replacement windows was very high, and their vinyl window cost was much higher than the «cheap» aluminum ones which I didn’t want. Also, they didn’t offer the financing option that Window World has. I’d seen a few ads for Window World in publications but when I researched them online and the reviews I found were for some franchises on the east coast and they weren’t good. I decided to call anyway and at least speak to the local rep. I spoke to Joe Miller. We arranged and appointment and he answered all my concerns, showed me samples and explained warranties. Construction timing was a concern as the siding was being removed and replaced on my building. Joe worked with me on this and again when there was a delay in the construction. They stored the windows and finally installed them in the 5 day «window» the contractor for scheduled for installation of the new windows. Kelly, the installer, is a quiet, careful worker. The finished job looks terrific. He did a thorough cleanup upon completion of the job. Now all my downstairs windows which were «new installation» are complete and I couldn’t be happier.
As soon as the siding is up, my three upstairs «retrofit» windows will be installed. They were special order. When Joe was explaining what was available I was excited to see windows where both panes of glass are removable. They cost a bit more but will make it so easy to wash the upstairs windows myself, and in my room, which has the smallest window of all three bedrooms and is the hottest room with western exposure in the p.m., I can remove both panes to get more air in the room in warm weather. I am really looking forward to having these windows installed. In the meantime they are storing the windows for me.
The windows look good inside and out. They work quietly and smoothly. I particularly like that the bronze windows are white on the inside. A nice clean look inside. I have recommended them to several neighbors in my complex and to other friends.

Love the quality of the windows but the installation was a complete nightmare. We weren’t home when the windows were installed and when We came home, it was a complete disaster. The whole inside of our house was covered in a layer of dust and pieces of glass. They nicked many window sills on the inside and out and they also damaged a piece of furniture. The outside was just as bad, I found many large shards of glass around the perimeter of our house. I would have thought they would have been more thorough about clean up since we have two small kids. It made me feel as though safety was not a priority and It was very disappointing. One of the installers came to the house and was very apologetic. But no apology could mend what happened to our house. I would not recommend window world to anyone.

My 25 year old bronze aluminum windows were way overdue for replacement. I have one 6 foot and two 8 feet sliding doors with above windows in the living area. Every time I got an estimate for replacing them, I thought I can’t afford this. It was a plumber doing work at my house who had highly recommended Window World. I never heard of them. I called them and Joe came out (very nice guy). The estimate ($ 11K) for the whole house (uv max, energy efficient, etc.) was cheaper than prior estimates for replacing the living area. Joe gave me nearby addresses to check out their work. I spoke to one one of the references who experienced some difficulty with installation (installer that is no longer there) but still highly recommended them based on the quality of the windows. I went with them. It was a good decision. I met with Joe again and because of my door sizes, they had to search for a different window manufacturer– I couldn’t be happier with the windows. The person who measured my windows (I believe Dave) was very thorough. The installers Dave (another Dave and also a contractor) and Richard did an excellent job of installing them. Finally, they have 0% one year financing which doesn’t start until the job is complete. The only negative to the windows: since I can now see out of them, I am going to need a window washer on a regular basis to keep them clean– it didn’t matter in the past.

I am unfortunately a returning customer of Dan’s and Window World. My experience with Dan and Window World four years ago was flawless. The measurements were spot on, the installers were experienced, courteous, and cleaned up after themselves and the result was a great experience. NOT THIS TIME! From the beginning my order went downhill. Some of the window measurements (taken by Dan as well as the salesman) were incorrect. The installers demo’d four windows BEFORE checking that the new windows were the correct size (they weren’t) so we had plywood over four windows while the newly RE-​ordered windows were made. Additional manufacture, shipping and wait time. The remaining windows that were the correct sizes were installed, however, all the grid patterns were incorrect, and the crew installed one very large window in the wrong location. When that was noticed, the installer wouldn’t switch it to the correct location since the grid pattern was incorrect, he told me he didn’t want to move the window twice, meaning once the corrected window was delivered, he would do it at that time. They had to be RE-​ordered and re-​installed. Additional manufacture, shipping and wait time. The next time the ‘corrected grid pattern’ windows arrived, the crew showed up without any notice to install the windows. One of the newly re-​ordered windows had a crack in it! Another Re-​order, additional manufacture, shipping and wait time. When the crew installed the sliding glass door, the finish trim was installed so badly the measurements were off by three-​quarters of an inch from the top to the bottom of the slider which resulted in the crew returning to correct the bad work. Plus, the installers tried to sway MY contractor and tile installer to come to work with him on some other jobs! And I’d like to add, at one point I was ASSURED by Dan, my windows were on the truck and arriving on a certain date and the installers would install them the same day they came off the truck. Not only did they NOT show up that week, Dan didn’t even bother to call me to say they didn’t arrive. I was so disgusted with the lack of communication, customer service, and poor quality control from the window factory, we almost hoped no one would come back at that point. The final window did show up, the crew installed it, and I will never again use window world. My suggestion to Dan would be to use a window manufacturer located in the same state (California in our case) and not another state, so if problems do arise, (and they eventually do) the wait time between the re-​order time and the shipping and installation isn’t a minimum of two to three weeks. I was told my original window order from the time of placing my order to the installation would be approximately two weeks. I ordered my windows July 19, 2013 and the windows were finally completed on September 20, eight weeks later, for eleven windows and a sliding glass door, which isn’t a huge order. I spoke with Dan and explained to him the differences between my first experience and this last experience with him and Window World. I explained why I would never be a returning customer. I also explained the bid for Window World Windows, was considerably more than my Milgard Window bid, however, I felt the extra money was worth it for the transferable warranty which stays with the windows, even if the property changes ownership. I also explained to Dan I wouldn’t be writing a favorable review, which led to another discussion. Dan explained to me «I sell twice as many windows as any other company in the area and therefore I have twice the number of problems.» Well, I’ve been a small business owner for the past 35 years and if I approached my business with that philosophy, I wouldn’t have been in business successfully for the past three decades. The goal of any business is to increase and grow your business with satisfied customers. Word of mouth is still a good barometer for many businesses. Customer Service and communication go a very long way with customers, especially if you are selling a product you have no control over with regards to their own quality control. I asked Dan for a discount on my remaining balance, which he obliged.

I used Window World through a referral from a close friend. I am a local business owner and know how difficult it can be to run a business. The owner (Dan) called the day before service, confirming their schedule. The sales person (Jeff) was very informative. The installation crew (Isidro-​Foreman) was accomodating and buttoned up additional work, promptly, upon my request. The job met my budget, expectations, and we will definitely use them in the future.

The owner of this particular Window World franchise is an)(*@#$(of grand proportions!
I would not recommend them to anyone, I would do without windows first! Bad service, do not keep commitments to pricing, even when written.
