We had an excellent evening here tonight, celebrating my birthday! We started with the Caeser, which was luscious. I then had the pork loin, with superb roasted beets, and my husband had the piemeal bacon. Both awesome! The cocktails were lovely, and they had a good wine selection. We will be back!!!

I really wanted to love it. I love Hugh Acheson. Unfortunately every dish we ordered was sooooo bland and under seasoned. The hummus, chicken and dumplings, and frogmore stew all had absolutely no salt in them. NONE! That was my biggest pet peeve, but I also didn’t love biting into a couple of chewy, tendon-y pieces of chicken in the chicken and dumplings. I made myself swallow the first piece so I didn’t look like trash in a nice restaurant, but the second piece got spit out and wrapped up in my napkin like a lady. How can someone that judges the food of some of the best chefs in the country let his head chef be anything but perfect in the kitchen?

Nice restaurant with good menu. Service was uninspired… perhaps our server had an off night looking at other reviews. Just can’t give 5 stars.

This was defintely in the top for best dining experiences. My table of four was very impressed by both the food and the service. Our server was helpful when needed and not overbearing. The food was tasty and we loved the atmosphere of the renovated house turned restaurant. Hugh Acheson is one of my favorite chefs and his southern food with modern and Asian influences works so well. I love in Atlanta but anytime I visit Athens I’ll make sure to make a stop here!

The décor was amazing. The staff was very friendly. The Ramen and drink was delicious. I liked the thickness/texture of the soup.

Probably the best night out my husband and I have had. When we first walked in, the hostess was warm and directed us to the bar while we waited for our table. The drinks we ordered were unique and well made, and our bartender was quick and friendly. Once we got to our table, the waiter(John) pulled out all the stops to make us feel welcome. Aside from the fabulous food, our waiter really made our experience there enjoyable. The food was exquisite, the atmosphere lovely, and the service unbeatable. Everything you could want in a restaurant. Price point is high, but the quality of the establishment is well worth paying for; as a place to celebrate a special occasion or have nice date night, this is now our go-to.

I don’t see what they hype is surrounding this place, the food was good but it was bland. I give it 2 stars because it was obvious that they use high quality fresh ingredients. This place is way over priced for what you get. My wife and I ended going through a drive through after we left because we dropped $ 85 and still weren’t full. Overall disappointment. We will stick to the last resort.

Excellent ambiance and food. Beautiful 1920s house. Good beer selection. Staff excellent. Bacon and pimento cheese appetizer alone worth a return visit. Too bad dinner portions were not enough to satisfy average man or husky woman – not that there’s anything negative about husky women.

I’ve been to 5&10 three times and each time it’s been for their Ramen Night that they have every Tuesday. That being said, I can only speak about my ramen experience. Every time I go, I get great service and an expertly made cocktail. It’s fine dinning, but if that description makes you nervous, don’t worry. The waitstaff is very friendly and welcoming. The dress is semiformal, but the servers are often in a dressed up casual look(if that makes sense). I sometimes go in a button down with jeans and don’t feel uncomfortable, but perhaps I’m an oblivious schlepper. The ramen($ 16) is amazing. It’s rich, flavorful and filling. If you’re a student at the university who wants to try one of the nicer restaurants in Athens without spending all the rent money, it’s a nice way to get the experience.

On a positive note, I love the location and ambiance of the new 5&10 location. I live in New York but am always in and out of Athens, GA, as my sister lives there and I attended UGA. NYC is my place now, but Athens is home. I understand that this is fine dining in Athens, and I think they do a great job at delivering a great experience as far as service goes. However, I am so confused by the lack of consistency with the food and the overall, taste of the food in general. I ordered the rabbit and it was completely bland. I am aware that rabbit is not supposed to have a flourishing flavor, but it should have a unique taste of freshness, hardiness, and well… rabbit. My sister had a stew, that was awful. The spices did not blend and I couldn’t decide exactly what taste the chef was going for. It was as if my taste buds got confused as to what to embrace. The current menu does not have these options to order so perhaps things have improved since I was there. I have lived in Athens, GA and had the experience of working in a restaurant there. Since, I have worked in restaurants in Chicago and New York City. I do not think 5&10 has alot of presence of his head chef. I am not criticizing Hugh Acheson, however, when the leader is not there, things in the kitchen can go astray. Where I worked, the owner was there a great deal and I consider that place to be one of the best restaurants in Athens. I know it’s hard to keep people consistently in the kitchen that really know the menu, food, flavors, and vision of the restaurant but this place has so much potential that I am sad to hear from many that it is so inconsistent and I agree. This restaurant should be better. It has all the wiring to be. Perhaps some passionate chefs will get in that kitchen and things will be reevaluated. I have great appreciation for Hugh Acheson and wish this restaurant the best!

This place is not where your normal college kids will go ever. It is a pretty upscale place and the bill has always been at least $ 200 every time I have been. I am pretty blessed to have eaten here at their old location near Earth Fare and their new location off of Lumpkin. Both locations were beautiful and elegant. I would give them 5 stars, but their entrees did not impress me as much as their appetizers did. It is disappointing how often their menu changes because some items should be permanently on the menu. For appetizers I have had: –OYSTERSONTHEHALFSHELL: Worth each and every single dollar. Each bite is a taste of heaven and usually they have a variety of different oysters. Your sever will definitely tell you. I love the huge oysters the most. It had the most flavor. –GLAZEDPORKBELLY: Delicious. Every bite was so delicate. I do not recall what other items I have gotten but you cannot go wrong with their appetizers! I have had at least 4 – 5 of them already. The entrees were not as memorable for me. It tasted like every other 5 star restaurant entrees I have had. Dessert was also amazing though. It was just a perfect combination. Overall, 5&10 is amazing. I will definitely return when I am back in Athens.

We ordered a few bourbons. Rip van winkle 10 year, Four roses single barrel and eh taylor single barrel. All were good but very different. Appetizers were scallops. Awesome! Pork belly. Was the best of the three and kale Caesar salad with anchovies. Dinner was lamb ribs. Anderson pork and frog more stew. All were awesome in their own way. Pork with beats were great. Stew had shrimp, octopus and corn was also tasty and the lamb ribs with Brussels sprouts was my favorite. John says the same.

Good place to go to for a special occasion – that’s a nice way of saying you’re going to spend a lot of money – $ 100 isn’t out of the question for a dinner for two, which in Athenian dollars is pretty pricey. The good news is that you are going to get a very nice dinner – they use high quality ingredients and make creative entres that put a spin on traditional southern cuisine. The lunches are a bit more affordable though definitely not huge in portions – a good option for if you’ve had a decent breakfast or are a light eater, and as such can enjoy a nice but not overly filling.

«That’s four dozen pimento cheese sandwiches gone entirely to waste!» — Crazy in Alabama(1999) Hugh, how we love you. What an amazing restaurant that seems so unexpected in Athens. Odd for me to say — I am a Bulldog through and through, but in my day — places like this did not exist. Everything was delicious and the server, Bob, did a great job managing my tree nut allergy without hesitation. He and I exchanged a few private chats throughout the evening so as not to call attention to anything — which I also appreciated. The biggest issues were that at table of 10 in a small room made negotiating around the table interesting, and I did feel for the two other couples in the room, trying to have intimate dinners. Also, the service was oddly slow. We ordered drinks, then the drinks came. Then we were able to order apps, then the apps came. Then we were able to order dinner. So the pacing was off. Plus, when meals came to the table — there was no order to it — the servers had no idea who had what dishes — and bit of a free-for-all. But let’s talk food. The pimento cheese was amazing, as was the boiled peanut hummus(who knew?). That was all I could really eat of the appetizers, so I ordered my own plate of gnocchi — they prepared it separately from everything else to make sure there was no cross-contamination. Very thoughtful. It was heaven on a plate. Sweet pillows of amazing potato with a crunchy peanut on top, plus blistered tomatoes — pure joy. I also tried a table mate’s Shrimp and grits — he won the ordering lottery — definitely the best thing on the menu! As for my entrée, I opted for the special — glazed lamb shoulder. Oh dear heavenly jesus. I devoured it and savored every bite at the same time. Served with smoked oyster mushrooms, sea island red pea succotash and pickled green tomato — it was like i died and had gone to heaven. there are not enough worlds to describe this dish. Tender, succulent, falling apart(no knife needed). OMG. Now I tried the tender pork chop with pork belly on top — and it was amazing. But nothing compared to my lamb. Don’t even try to tell me otherwise. For dessert, I got a scoop of ice cream, just to cleanse the palate, but I was still dreaming about the lamb for days. Bravo, Mr. Acheson, Bravo.

LOVEYOU5&10! You are nearly perfection. I came with a good sized group– I think there may have been 10 of us. We had a great table but were awkwardly sat in a small room with two couples that were separately on date nights. I feel bad for them because while we were having a ball, they were probably annoyed by our group. We weren’t rowdy or anything but still. That would be my first of only two gripes. The food and drinks, the important stuff, were all wonderful. The natural thing to do with a group is to order almost one of every appetizer. Seriously if you go with a group– DOTHIS. Highlights of our order include the boiled peanut hummus(so creamy and crave worthy), the shrimps and grits, gnocchi, and duck egg. The charcuterie is also another winner. For my entrée I had the pork chop. Sounds boring when I put it like that right? Well this came with the most succulent pork belly I’ve ever had and a really cool squash flower that was stuffed with manchego cheese and deep fried. Whaaat?! The veggies tasted like they were just picked in the garden. And there was this cool black eggplant purée. We don’t know how they do it. Magic? Dessert isn’t something I would normally like on top of all of this but I was on vaycay so… My husband and I shared the s’mores cake. Great way to end the meal. The cocktails we ordered were all good. I particularly enjoyed the Brooklyn. The prices are reasonable and the servings were decent. My only other gripe would be the service. Our waiter was polite, but when they brought the food out they would call out the order. At a place like this it’s more appropriate to have them deliver it to the seat number. The two gripes I have though wouldn’t keep me from returning here– after all I can’t stop thinking about some of the delicious treats we had!

I got the chance to visit 5&10 with a group of friends will in Athens. This is not your typical college eatery! But if you do find yourself in Athens you must check it out! The restaurant is in what was once a house. I’m not a big fan of this concept for restaurants. I feel every time I get up and walk towards a door I’m going to run into a server coming around the corner. Also, it makes it impossible to find the restrooms! Now 5&10’s layout isn’t too bad and I see they have worked through some of the problems with using a house as a restaurant. For example most houses don’t have parking for more than 3 cars, so 5&10 has an auxiliary parking lot is available next to restaurant(a huge plus for me). The service was slower than what I’m used to, but could be attributed to our larger group. I also found it weird that we placed the appetizer order, and then got the appetizers before ordering our main dishes. Simply put, the food was brilliant. The Grilled GA Shrimp had some of the best grilled shrimp I’ve ever had. The grits that the shrimp came on would have made an amazing dish in itself. Now, I always do this to myself, I order a steak at a non-steak restaurant and then get disappointed with the result. The stake wasn’t bad but it was not as good as what I wanted it to be. In hindsight I should have gone with the pork chop. Overall this place gets 4 stars for an amazing meal with service that was a bit slow. I completely recommend this to anyone visiting Athens.

The new 5&10 location is Amazing, it has an old farmhouse feel and is appointed exquisitely. The bar area is well laid out, and the bartender, a little slow paced, was accommodating to make a custom drink when they ran out of the wine we ordered. Off of the main bar, in an overflow seating area, you will find a well thought out espresso bar. The menu, although small, is full of flavor and choices. The Gulf Shrimp were prepared perfectly, the garnish really complimented the shrimp, and they were actually pretty fresh by Athens standard. The flat iron steak was full of flavor, cooked perfectly, and the beets actually went well with the meat. The dessert Did NOT disappoint! The brownie tasted as if had just come out of the oven and the coffee gelato was super, there was even natural bee honey as a garnish. The 5&10 is a very good upscale dining choice in Athens; it is a must for visitors and locals alike.

We came to 5&10 to celebrate my brothers Birthday and this was the only place in the city he wanted to go to and I can see why. This enchanting, Southern mansion, is like a delicious oasis amongst the crazy frat houses that line Milledge Avenue. The over sized front patio is so welcoming with candles on each table, white table cloths and low lighting above. When we pulled up we had a reservation for inside but we asked to sit outside and thankfully, due to the hour, our request was fulfilled. I can’t speak about the interior but from what I saw, each room was made up in a different setting of dining room. Dining inside appeared to be a bit more dressy than the people that were dining on the patio but how can you resist patio dining on a late Spring evening? The wine list is incredible. Even if you’re not looking to drink, check out the massive list and the incredible selection. 5&10 takes things very seriously in the kitchen and its nice to see the same passion is also at the bar. My brother chose a bourbon, I had an off the menu Asti moscato, Marchesi Di Gresy and his girlfriend had the red syrah Qupé. The wait staff is just as impressive as the house itself. We never had to hunt down our server, the drink refills were never a problem and he was very entertaining! Many times that he approached the table we were lost in our own conversation or laughing about something and he never interrupted, just filled our glass or cleared a plate. He knew the menu front and back and gave delicious recommendations from the appetizers(snackies-as they call it) and even the main entrée. After too many glasses of wine, I only wish I remembered his name! Even the other staff members that came around to help or ask how everything tasted were accommodating. It makes the dining experience that much better to have people that love their job and love what they do as a part of your team. We ordered the charcuterie plate for 2 and the meats paired perfectly with the different mustard’s. I personally preferred the champagne mustard and the classic over the red mustard but that may have been the wine talking! I didn’t enjoy the pâté as it had an odd texture and was room temperature but the breakfast sausage and the andouille sausage were the first to disappear. As my entrée, I chose the trout dish and I only ordered it considering the server stated the crispy skin was left on and the rice grits were to die for. While the fish was fresh the skin was not crispy and the fish itself didn’t have a lot of flavor. It is a slap in the face to the chef to season the food but I found myself looking for salt and pepper that wasn’t even on the table. Thankfully the beets, mushrooms and grits saved the dish. Not to mention the great sauce that was poured over the top. I had a bite of my brothers girlfriends Magret duck and it was a bit fatty as compared to another duck dish I’ve tried at a different restaurant but it paired perfectly with the artichoke and fava beans that were also on the plate. My brothers low country Frogmore strew had huge shrimp tails and 2 pieces of grilled bread that soaked up the tomato broth that everything swam in. For dessert, they even plated my brothers birthday cake and lit the candles for us and made a grand entrance. It was a perfect end to our meal and to a big Birthday celebration. Thank you again 5&10 for making it so special.

It did not live up to my expectations, maybe it was just an off night. As I’ve eaten and the previous location, and it was great. Also love Empire State South and The National. We started with the Hush Kitties and Pimento Cheese. The Hush Kitties, came with a homemade tartar sauce… which normally I hate, but this was delicious. The Pimento Cheese in the jar is just as wonderful as I remember from ESS. Entrees: Trout… it was just ok. Pork Loin, everything on that plate was tasty except for the fritter. For dessert we had the special, Lemon Chess Pie with blueberry compote, very good. We also got the Pear and Champagne sorbet… yummy. and the Grapefruit and Campari sorbet… it was a tart mouthful… I didn’t care for it… but my GF loved it. Our service was different. Great waiter. Had a weird experience and the front of the house. And then they proceeded to move all the tables around during our meal… up and over the edge of my friends chair… it was just odd. Parking is challenging… small lot, we parked next door at the bank… much easier. If I have another opportunity to go, I would, and hope for a better experience.

We visited 5&10 on a Saturday night having made a weekend trip to Athens. We have dined at Empire State South many times and were looking forward to visiting Hugh Acheson’s other restaurants The National and 5&10 while in town. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation so we could enjoy a drink at the bar. While waiting we couldn’t help but try the Tortelli app and while waiting the bartender surprised us with the pimento cheese plate with bacon on top. The pimento cheese app reminded us of the famous«jars» as ESS. Both were out of this world and you must try them. Once we were seated we split the watermelon salad and a couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. Oh wow after typing all of this it really reenforces that we had a lot of food! but it was hard to resist… So fInally, i ordered the Mississippi Rabbit loin. Rabbit seems to be appearing on a lot of menus lately and it is my new favorite thing. I wasn’t disappointed. Julie ordered the pasta dish and didn’t love it because it was spicy despite the description and she is not a fan of spicy. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience. The new location is in an old renovated house that is perfect for an evening out. Dinner service was slow but we attribute that to the new facility. I have no doubt that service will improve as they break in the new place.
