Description

Specialties

We sell hot dogs and hamburgers and prepare homemade coleslaw and coney sauce. Your hot dogs can be the standard steamed hot dog or you can get it grilled or even deep fried and top it off with any of the sandwich toppings or dipping sauces.

We have various other sandwiches such as the breaded chicken, pork tenderloin, fish tail, and fish square. If you want something healthier try our grilled chicken or even the veggie sandwich. (That is not a veggie burger)

Ice cream is our other specialty, we sell many different flavors of shakes and malts. We can combine multiple flavors if you wish. We have multiple sundaes and specialty treats such as the Upside Down Banana Split!

History

Established in 1972.

Locally owned restaurant by Larry Young. Known for serving hot dogs and ice cream the menu also has burgers, chicken, fish, and pork. Larry’s Dawg House has a family feel and the owner is there most of the time greeting and serving many of the customers.

This is a mom and pop hot dog shop near my girlfriend’s home town.
We stopped by after a trip to New Orleans on a Sunday. Open until 9pm most nights.
This is exactly as you’d expect. They have dogs, burgers, fries, ice cream and soft drinks. They do a few things really well.
I had a footlong chilli dog with cheese, Cajun fries and a soft drink (medium). She had a 6″ dog with regular fries and water. It was under $ 10.
The food arrived quickly and was freshly made, a great tasting chilli and cheese on the dog, with a light Cajun seasoning on the fries.
It was so nice we decided to test out their ice cream swirls. I ordered a Heath (which is basically a dime/​daim bar for the Europeans reading this) and she went for the m&m one. These were like the Blizzards served at Dairy Queen — or, let’s say a «Super McFlurry», so sweet and a perfect end to the meal. Well blended with chunks of the respective candy in the ice cream.
Wonderful staff, sweet location and loved locally. Next time I’m anywhere nearby, I’m going back.

Larry’s is great. Their milkshakes are delicious, and they have a wide variety of sandwiches and hot dogs. The prices are very reasonable as well! The food is your traditional hot dogs, burgers, fried pork chop, so I would recommend that vegetarians look elsewhere unless they just want fries and some ice cream.

I ate at Larry’s for the first time a few weeks back and it definitely wasn’t bad. I got the foot long slaw dog, a large cajun fries, and a chocolate malt. The hot dog was really nothing impressive. If you want a really great dog, I recommend O’ Betty’s. The fries were good, but weren’t very ‘cajun’ at all. Now, the malt… that’s a different story altogether. That chocolate malt was amazing and I would recommend going there for it alone.
The place is actually in a nice little building a bit off of the beaten path. It was really clean and the employees were all polite and attentive. The customer base seemed to be a lot of older couples and families, but I was there on a Sunday. If your purpose is to avoid the bustle of the college crowds, this is your spot.
So, I just want to be clear that Larry’s isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, but a much better dog and fries can be had at O’ Betty’s. But if you want a malt, hit up Larry’s

Yesterday was our third visit and I apologize for not adding my .02 before. I love this place! First off it appears so clean and bright. Always seems to be busy and bustling too!
Had a burger «Big Bu» — great big thing, very flavorful beef and the toppings actually added to it as opposed to cover it up. One of the best tomatoes I’ve had in a long time BTW.
I see several comments about the fries being «so so» — this visit I think they were outstanding! Beautifully golden, with a great, almost sweet, crisp shell and a flaky hot interior almost like mashed potatoes. I would say one of my top fry experiences in decades.
Getting to be a must go to place in Athens for me now

i loooove it here! the ice cream is awesome. i’ve also enjoyed their hot dogs, but i haven’t had any burgers or anything. everyone who works here is really nice. my friend ordered a root beer float (free refills on root beer) and after she went up to get refills he brought a cup of root beer over to our table. very sweet.

Here’s the story!!! I’m an OU alumnus (two thousand twelve) and me and my good classmates are spending NYE in town. We all needed one bu (a fancy alternative to an American Classic) to put us in the mood. And boy! We were all happy to realize it was as grand of a taste experience as one would remember. Food was pure perfection. Drinks weren’t of this world. Staff knew what it meant to treat people with the nurturing care of a mother (this is if you think of mothers as loving women). Simply amazin’
10⁄10 which rounds down to 5⁄5. Eat here or be sad.
NOTICE: It’d be important to note that we were all very carsick upon arrival. And Larry didn’t do anything to further the imbalance of our intestine. Unreal.

We stopped at Larry’s when we were in Athens last Sunday and enjoyed a midday meal. My husband’s family grew up in the area and he remembers Larry’s very well from his childhood. He, of course, would give the restaurant 5 stars. I, however, found the food to be just so so. I would rather have a grilled hot dog instead of steamed any day. The hamburger I had this past visit was good but nothing to write home about. The fries were quite the same.
We did enjoy the casual atmosphere and the steamed hot dog won by 2 year old over too.
What really caught my eye this time were there ice cream cakes. I drooled just looking at them. I did not, however, get a taste. My husband’s milk shake was very tasty and if I wasn’t the nice wife that I am I would have drank it all myself.
Maybe I’ll stick to just the ice cream next time! I’m sure we will be back.

Love this place — stopped in while visiting Athens. I was very impressed by the service and cleanliness of this place. Soft serve ice cream is great! So are the hot dogs! One of the people in our group said her burger was very good. We will definitely stop again when we go back.

These are definitely the best (and biggest!) hot dogs in Athens. Throw in occasional 99 cent milkshake deals, and you have a winner. Unfortunately, the cheeseburgers are somewhere between TV dinner and school cafeteria in quality. Stick with the wieners.

I’ll take Larry’s over the local Wendy’s shlock any day. The hot dogs they serve are actually quite different from the rest around Athens. O’bettys serves a grilled dog with a ‘snap’ when you bite in. It seems as though Larry’s steams their dogs, allowing a nice, soft bite. Pick your poison. Pretty good, basic American comfort food. Can’t complain.

The burgers are good, get the double, but the pork tenderloin was average and actually kind of small. The fries were OK. It does get crowded at lunch so keep that in mind when trying to pull into the parking-​lot or drive-​thru. But for a place called the «Dog House» their selection of hot dogs is just that, a hot dog, which seemed very odd.

I make it a point to visit Larry’s whenever I’m in Athens. Their hotdogs are my favorite but everything I’ve tried has been good. When I was in high school in Athens, the Union Grill had the best hotdogs. Since they went out of business, Larry’s has taken over and are just as good if not better. My mother, who lives in Athens, seldom misses the Weenie Wed. when their dogs are 99 cents.

This is a great local fast food place. Try the «Big Bu», or a hot fudge malted milkshake. It should be noted that there is nothing remotely healthy or organic on their menu, which may be why I love it!
