Listen, this place isn’t that bad. It’s got great employees, a fantastic and welcoming atmosphere, it’s just not great for short haircuts. I wanted something masculine and I wasn’t given that. I’m not so unhappy with the hair I got that I’m going to pay again for someone to fix or demand a refund, but I won’t pretend like I got what I wanted. My stylist was great, just not for me. If you have long hair or want something feminine this seems to be a really great place to go. But otherwise I would try somewhere else first. I left my first review about how this place wasn’t that great and now I’ve got the manager and owner calling me trying to convince me I shouldn’t have said what I did. I appreciate the offers to fix it but calling me twice isn’t the way to go about it. Just one call saying sorry and offering to fix it up for me was good, and me not calling back should have been taken as a sign I didn’t want to do that. Not a sign to call me again at night to talk to me about my review. Very unprofessional. Practically asked me outright to remove my negative review of the place. I won’t be going here again.

I’m really picky with who cuts my hair. For years, I had my mother who was a professional stylist be the only person to ever cut my hair, because a lot of places would somehow mess it up! I came in to have my haircut and right away I noticed how professional the atmosphere seemed. While you wait for your stylist they will offer you your choice of beverage. Unfortunately they didn’t offer any liquor, but who can complain really? Kristen Byron ended up cutting my hair and I’ve gotta say that she did a really fantastic job! Even though I don’t live in Athens anymore, I will come back just to get a haircut from Kristen. If you’re really picky and particular about how your hair looks, I highly recommend this place!

BEST salon in Athens, hands down. Not only do the stylists have exceptional talent, the salon itself has an atmosphere that is relaxing and stress-​free. The customer service amazed me and I am in love with my cut/​color! I highly recommend Salley, especially if you’re a blonde. She is AMAZING. I am so picky about salons because I have thick hair, but she knew exactly what to do. Also, I felt like I didn’t leave with a huge dent in my bank account. As a college student, this is important. I will most definitely be back.

I’ll start with… i have terrible, baby fine post pregnancy hair… Its just awful. The front desk listened to my needs and booked my. long mangled mane with Shelby. They are an awesome spot, Shelby was totally intuitive about what worked for me and it was very clear it was natural for her. I will be back for sure. O highly recommend Shelby Rae BC that’s who I had and will use, but went off recommendations of at least 25 other people. Top notch service. Awesome style.

I was a frightened student who had only been to one salon for my entire life, and a friend recommended that I try Republic. I did my research, called the salon, and explained my trepidation. I wanted someone to do blonde highlights and a cut. Enter Brett.
Brett has been the most wonderful hairstylist and friend for the past three years. He is very patient with my giant head of hair. He does the most beautiful highlights, cut, and blowout. He’s also hilarious and kind.
The salon itself is really chic. One of the receptionists always offers me a drink when I come in. They are always accommodating when I call to schedule. I’ve also gone in for blow outs for events, and I have had a great results that surpass blow dry bars in Atlanta.
I highly recommend Republic and Brett.

Sure, a glass of wine at the «color bar» is fine, but I’m paying for quality services, not a trendy atmosphere.
After moving to Athens from Atlanta, I was in need of a highlight touch-​up, so I did my research and found Republic… I really don’t understand why this salon has such high ratings and accolades. It’s a nice space, but I was not impressed with their customer service or the quality of my color. I said I was going for natural looking, subtle highlights (which I already had, the roots were just starting to show), and came out with one of those dreaded streaky messes.
The stylist said she would redo it for me, so I scheduled another appointment (a week later), and she just put in a different rinse. Still streaky, and still too blonde. I will not be going back.

I was going out of town for the weekend and had the sudden urge to get my hair cut. They are usually booked but fortunately I was able to get an appointment when I called same day due to a cancellation.
I have been a few times before with various stylists and have always had pleasant experiences, but this visit with Shane was the best yet. I told him I just wanted a trim — 2 – 3 inches, but he also made some suggestions on how I wear my hair to make it easier to work with in the morning. He added layers in all the right spots and seemed to be familiar with all hair types. He knew exactly how to get my crazy thick hair look tame. I usually have to style my hair to make it look okay but now I don’t even completely blow dry it all the way. With his expert and strategic snips, my hair looks fab every day without much daily maintenance.
The salon itself is beautiful and located above Tasty World in downtown Athens. The entrance door is on the side of the building. You have to walk up three flights of stairs to get to the salon, but you will be greeted with friendly faces and offered a refreshment!

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet! I’m so shocked by the low ratings as this is my favorite hair salon ever. I’ve been to dozens all around the country, including major metropolitan areas, and nothing compares to the quality of service I get with Shane here. He’s tolerant of my nuanced color requests and actually cuts the length he says he will. Shane has taken me from bright blond to dark strawberry blond, looking natural every time. I highly recommend him for a good conversation, head massage, perfect color, and he’s not too difficult to book. Worth the money for sure.

I’m very picky when it comes to my hair, and when I moved from Athens and tried to find a new stylist, I was reminded of why I love Republic Salon so much. Callie is awesome. I’ve always had long hair — cutting an inch feels like 10! — and she always cut the right amount. She’s also great with color. That’s why I love Republic. There’s no need to visit 3 different stylists for cut, color and blow dry, and it allows you to really get to know them. I had to give them 5 stars because I had absolutely no complaints in the 4 years I came here. Love them!

I saw Brett for my first haircut in eight months this morning and I could not have been more pleased. He sat me down asked me what I was looking for and did a great job executing on it. I am going to a wedding tonight and he took extra care to make sure it stays perfect for the big night. He was friendly and personable and I love the results!

Lyric (salon owner) has been cutting my hair for a decade. She is amazing, and I would never trust anyone else to do my cut or color. My husband has also had great experiences with her and Shane. Best salon in Athens!

Quality Poor to fair
Very disapointed with hair cut. I did my homework and read reviews thinking this would be a good place to get a hair cut. My mistake. Now I am trying to find another salon to clean up the $ 65 & tips hair cut that I just received.
Up-​date to post. This is the review that wes left on the salons website. The same website that I went to when I was trying to make up my mind where to get my hair cut. With-​in two days of the review being posted, the Owner of the Salon called me and asked what she could do to get me to remove my review. When I said that nothing could be done that I had already gone and had my hair fixed, She said that she would refund the cost of my hair cut plus tips if I would remove the bad review. She sent my money back and I removed the review from the salons webpage. Now, that would explain why I only saw glowing reviews about the salon.

We just moved to the Athens area two weeks ago, and I went in to Republic with wrecked hair. Thanks to Lyric, I emerged from the salon feeling happy and beautiful. I’m semi-​retired and no longer need to look like everyone’s mom. I wanted something different…
Haha– no, I didn’t opt for orange spiked hair, but I did get a soft, carefree cut and color touch-​up that was just perfect.
Nice people, beautiful place, reasonable prices for fabulous services.

I saw Sarah for the last nine months and she has been great! The quality of the consultation and cut are top-​notch. Their complimentary beverages, before and after hair wash and salon atmosphere are also nice. It’s triple the cost of Great Clips, but their attention to detail makes it worth it. After all, you only get your hair cut once a month.

Disappointing…
Ok. So I’ve been to the Republic, and I tried over and over again to get a good haircut here. But it seems to me that they don’t really specialize in men’s haircuts.
Sure, all the woman RAVE about this place. But I went here three different times, over a period of a year and a half, and tried three different people, and I never went away liking my haircut. The last one was actually so bad that I went to another place in my home town of Augusta, GA and got it fixed. And LOVED that haircut.
I think the reason I kept coming here is the fact that the place IS so trendy, but I really shouldn’t have gone here three times. After the second haircut I was so angry that I let my hair grow for a period of several months, until I looked like a rabbi, and tried the place for the last time.
I will NEVER go here again. It’s overpriced for a town the size of Athens, and I tried the best that they have, shelling out big bucks, for haircuts I really disliked. So… if you’re a dude like me, I wouldn’t suggest going here. My new hairdresser is in Augusta, GA, and I like her style. That should let you know how hard I’ve looked for a good haircut.
In the end, the place is overpriced, the service is pretty lousy, and they’ll try to squeeze you for more money by trying to sell you hair products that you don’t ask for.
A definite 1 star from me. And trust me, I don’t work for their competition.

Republic Salon is a beautiful, modern salon in a gorgeous historic building. On the third floor (above Tasty World), clients enjoy a lovely view of downtown over a drink while sitting at the color bar. The design of the salon is spacious, well lit, modern, clean, and very fashionable. Republic brings Athens an upscale salon like those found in major cities, but less expensive. This is the place to go for people who value the best for their hair!
Potties are classy and VERY clean, with neat locks on the stall doors and beautiful sink area. I’m pleased to report that the changing rooms are separate, too.
Staff is friendly, prompt and welcoming. Customers range from young & fabulous to soccer moms/​dads in for some pampering. My partner and I see Lyric (founder/​owner) who has made hair her art. Plan to spend about 2 hours for cut & color, time spent feeling pampered and relaxed. The time put into her work shows in the finished product for both men and women.
