I liked the noodles but I didn’t like beef with broccoli that much Overall it was ok

We were hangry and were craving Chinese takeout. To be honest, I think a part of me is always craving Chinese takeout. Guilty. My Taiwanese mother would slap me silly if she knew. My friend suggested China Star, as he’d ordered from here the Chinese restaurant before on a large scale and had a good(and cheap) experience. We ordered several dishes to go to share family style: Beef and Broccoli: no matter how many recipes I try or how much starch I add, I always fail to make it as tasty as Chinese restaurants. This stuff is legit. Starchy and delicious, I just couldn’t stop stuffing my face. Sweet and Sour Chicken: after a failed experience at another Chinese restaurant recently, I was appreciative of the better result at China Star. They gave us WAY too much sauce. But better too much than not enough. This is America. The crunchy fried breading was awesome. Singapore Rice Noodles: pretty darn good noodles. The curry scent and flavor was on point. Not sure how authentic it was but sure was tasty. Mu Shu Pork: a very common Chinese takeout dish, you wrap it in tortilla and brush on some hoisin sauce. It wasn’t super flavorful, and my friend noted it definitely didn’t taste like the Mu Shu pork she’s used to eating. So maybe not the best execution of this dish. Crab Rangoon: my friend enjoyed this, but I feel like I’ve had better. Parts of the fried dough weren’t fried all the way so was a little doughy, in my opinion. Not the best attempt. Egg Rolls: one per person, provided with each dish order. The dough for the egg roll was a little rough and dry. However, my secret is letting it sit until the next day, and only heating it up a little bit after taking it out the fridge. Slightly cold and super greasy? Yessir, this is finally some real good stuff. Overall, not a bad attempt. Not the best Chinese takeout I’ve had, but definitely not the worst.

It’s not the best Chinese food I had but it’s good and they deliver. I get two or three of the menus shoved in my door a week, so I thought I would give them a try. Apparently they have repeat business at my apartment complex. And I was pleasantly surprised. I usually get the mongolian beef and general tsao’s chicken. Their mu shu pork was good as well. Shrimp with lobster sauce was a disappointment, as it had very little shrimp and the sauce was runny both times I ordered it and the shrimp fried rice is just shrimp and fried rice. I think I saw a piece of an onion in there but it might have fell in there by accident, but that might how some people like it and it was still good.

China Star is my first choice for delivery. They do have some seating inside, but delivery or takeout seems to be their main thing. I’ve never had anything from the menu I didn’t like. The salt and pepper calamari is awesome! I love their hot and sour soup. It’s done just right. And the delivery is always fast. I order from them at least once a month.

Food is fast and decent for the price, apart from that not much to say. Really a restaurant that’s tucked away from most eyes but they serve okay food.

If we are talking about the China START in the Kroger Shopping plaza at Chamblee-Tucker and 285. WE are talking FRESH and GOOD. I read these reviews and was shocked. The place only has seating for about 8 people tops so when I read seating for 25? Anyway we order from here on nights we do not want to cook. The veggies are always FRESH with a bit of crunch left in them, NOT soggy and old. the egg rolls, true they are not the best, but we are always pleased with our main course. The staff is a Asian family that is always polite to us.

I am on a quest to find good Chinese in this area! Once again I wheeled my cart full of groceries from Kroger and decided I no longer wanted to cook. China Star was literally the closest place. The restaurant like many seemed to be family run. Same scenario: put the teenagers/college kids to work on the weekends. The young cashier was kind of snarky. If I made a request for my order she acted as if she personally had to ring up the food, cook it, pay for it and eat it. The first thing I noticed about the Sweet and Sour Shrimp Combo was that it smelled like old grease. I was hesitant to eat it but I had already paid for it and left the restaurant so there was no turning back. I tasted the rice first and suprisingly it has absolutely no flavor… not the taste of salt… soy sauce… nothing. The shrimp if you want to call them that were strips of shrimp dunked in a sweet pancake type batter. The dipping sauce had a peculiar taste and needless to say I didn’t double dip. The only edible item was my vegetarian spring roll, oh wait when I bit into it there was shrimp! Thank goodness I didn’t have a shellfish allergy. Lesson of the day: when I wheel out a cart full of groceries I’m going to follow through and cook them.

Here is a general rule: You only get to have the stereotypically rude Chinese restaurant attitude if your food is worth two shits. I understand that you are in a dark, dreary kitchen all day, but lighten up dude. I have ordered from here a couple of times in the last few years, never really too impressed. I just gave this place it’s last chance with me today. Went in for quick takeout(I don’t enjoy sitting in hot restaurants with no air conditioning in the summer.) I asked two questions about vegetarian options and was treated as if I had asked about having his Mom on the menu. Turned around, walked out and drove about 600′ to Hunan Inn where i gladly gave them all my lunch money. As my fortune said… «It’s about time I got out of that cookie» It’s about time I got out of China Star.

Review based totally upon service not food… didn’t make it that far. China Star slid their menu under the door of my apartment. The menu looked good and we thought we’d order from them. I called to place our order – the first person who answered the phone didn’t seem interested in talking to me and pretty quickly passed me off to another person whose English was a little clearer but whose demeanor was much less pleasant. I provided her my phone number and clearly spelled my street address for her. She asked me to repeat my zip code, I did, and her tone deteriorated even further. She said, «Where are you at?! How are we supposed to get there?! Do you know where we are?!» I replied by saying, «Your staff put the menu under my door. So, I’m pretty sure that you deliver here.» She let out big sigh, said, «Hold on a minute,» I waited a minute and then hung up. They deliver food – I’d expect it was their responsibility to figure out how to get to me. Ever heard of GPS – I can’t imagine running delivery without it? I live just down the street from the restaurant. In the end, I didn’t think it was smart to give my credit card number to an organization that seems to fail in the basic practices of their business.

Nothing really special. Just your run of the mill cheap Chinese food. Always good for a quick meal in a hurry but don’t expect 5 Stark customer service. Lol

This restaurant has two great advantages for me: it is the cheapest Chinese food I can find from Northlake to Chamblee, and it is ridiculously convenient(I shop at the Kroger next door and live within walking distance). We had the Family Dinner for Four recently. Egg drop soup and Mongolian beef were bland, but not bad. My wife loved all the green veggies in the chicken lo mein. The veggie dish was a highlight, and the sesame chicken was good, though a bit chewy. Egg rolls seem to be frozen, like you often see at all-you-can-eat buffets, but I’m not proud — I put my sweet chili sauce on them and was perfectly content. They like to throw in extras for orders over $ 20.00 — we got three sodas without even asking. Frankly, almost any Chinese restaurant in the area probably serves up better food, but it’s hard to justify spending $ 20.00 more to feed a family of four at Hunan Inn.

We live near by and used to order from them — food was pretty decent, cheap, and quick. The crab-Rangoon is not only good but cheap! That’s a bonus for any Chinese take-out joint. But TWICE we ordered beef sticks and both times we spit it out. Something was really wrong with it. I’ve come to the conclusion; from what I saw, from what it looked like, and tasted like that it was either rotten meat, lamb or cat. I haven’t ordered anything from them since. TWICE?! Hunan Inn won our dollar with their fast delivery and high quality meats and veggies. Their prices are abot $ 1 – 2 more but it’s ALWAYS delicious or they’ll make it right. Their crab-rangoon is not as good and costs more. I miss crab-rangoon.

China Star appears to be more of a take-out than a sit down restaurant, but still has seating for about 25 people. It has a large mirror that occupies one whole side of the main dining room. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Masa lunch special with an order of Crab Rangoon. The food reminded me of something I would have prepared on my home wok: no frills, but it did the job. The chicken was medium heat and very tender; just the right amount of sweetness. The fried rice was a little bland for my taste, however. What really surprised me was the quality of the chicken wing, I think the best I’ve had at a Chinese restaurant. The price was very reasonable. Ten Crab Rangoon were less than four dollars, and they were of incredible size. All in all, I was stuffed to capacity for under $ 10. If I lived nearby, I could see myself eating here on a regular. The Sweet Tea needed a little work. I think it absorbed some metallic flavor from the pot.
